Umbrella Tree

I’m very disappointed in the new «twirl.» I have a 2.5 yr old boy. I took him a few weeks ago to try it out. We were HUGE fans of Twirl. Loved the food!!! It was a great spot to go for us at home mommies that need a dry place to let our kids hang out. I walked in and paid the $ 5… But now I am wishing I could have peaked at the new play area first. It’s empty! There are hardly any toys. It’s more geared for babies up to age 1!!! My son was so bored. I’m disappointed. I used to go at least once a week and drop a good chunk of $ eating and playing. We have been to several indoor play spaces around Seattle and they are colorful and inviting. All I can say is umbrella tree is WHITE and BARE. The only positive is that there is more seating around the play area. I am a leader of a mommy play group. I used to host play dates here. Unfortunately, I don’t think we will be back. It’s sad; I would rather drive all the way to lynnwood or Bellevue than waste my money here. The whole point is to offer moms a place to kick back with a cup of coffee while their kids play. There is nothing to stimulate kids older than one. Here is hoping they read these comments and make some changes.

I’m very sad at what used to be a fantastic place. I absolutely LOVED Twirl Café and my family and I would trek across town often for the fun play space and amazing food on the weekdays and weekends. What was once a colorful and inviting kid space is now stark and boring. The huge play tree that my kids loved playing in is gone, all the wonderful wall decorations are gone. Absolutely nothing has replaced them, so you’re surrounded by bare white walls. The hanging vines from the ceiling that gave the play area a whimsical appeal is also gone. I really really wanted to like the new turn over and I’m sorry to say that we will probably never come back. It seems like the main focus of the new owners are the birthday parties and classes that they offer, which is sad as my kids are in preschool without any real need for any of these classes and for the money I would rather host a party in a more lively atmosphere. We used to come to Twirl as a family for dinner on the week days and breakfast on the weekends and play dates. We’d easily spend the same amount as a class if not more in one sitting of a meal and play time because we’d invite friends to join us and enjoy the amazing food that was offered. I don’t think that will be happening ever again as the menu is sub par snack food at best, the place looks like it’s not cleaned as often and overall the toys and look of the place is drab. I’ve had a few other mommy friends with younger kids not in school yet go and visit on a week day and they have sadly come out with the same impression and decision to no longer come back. I really miss Twirl Café :-(

I have tried to leave 2 reviews now and the business keeps removing ! Disappointed in new space and not worth 9 for two kids ! Not very much to do to justify price

I’m completely disappointed in what was Twirl Café and now Umbrella Tree. What was a beautiful inviting space is now drab and dirty. Five dollars for all day play is good for baby and toddlers however I wonder how often they actually clean the toys? For parents with kid’s younger than 3 it’s GOOD ENOUGH but not great.
I sat at a dirty table and looking down the row of messy table for an hour without anyone bothering to clean them. The whole time I was here (almost 2hours).
The worker had extremely long hair and was constantly brushing it back with her hands and not washing her hands afterwards.
I feel they spend more time on the overly priced «classes» aspect then they do on the place as a whole. At least they can try and make it welcoming for those who don’t want to attend class and would just like a nice place to have their kids stimulated.
The food option is very small and unappealing, I ended up with a bagel with cream cheese.
The place is NOT pleasant to the eye at all. Unstimalating, even for an adult.
Maybe I’m being overly critical but I’m just so disappointed in what it has become in comparison. Not worth the trek from across town again which makes me sad.
Sorry Umbrella Tree but until more effort is put in towards the place as a whole and not have only your classes be your main attraction, I won’t be back.

We hosted a double birthday party for my son and daughter (ages 3 and 5) at Umbrella Tree and it was incredible. Administratively, the entire process was easy and straightforward; Arlene was very accessible when I had questions about the catering form online. The space was perfect for the age range (we had guests from 3 to 6 years of age). At the party, Louise and Jen worked very hard to be of service and to accommodate all of our needs. We chose a yoga theme for the kids and the yoga instructor did an amazing job with the young kids! We brought our own desserts but ordered the delicious rosemary infused lemonade for our guests. Parents could either order wine or additional refreshments at the café/​snack bar. It was an all-​around success and I would highly recommend choosing this space for your next kids birthday party! Kids and grown-​ups had an amazing time and everyone kept commenting throughout the party how impressed they were. Thank you!

We had my daughter’s fourth birthday here over the weekend, and it was totally fantastic. The planning was super easy — Arlene was prompt and clear about what decisions they needed from us to make it all go off without a hitch. And then, the day of: how great, we just got to show up and the place was decorated, the food was perfect, and everyone — kids and grownups both — had a really wonderful time. The space is really great for a party — a clean and not overly crowded play space where the kiddos can play with fun toys while the parents chat and watch the kids, and then a separate space for the activity we had chosen (a dance class with Jenn, which the kids loved. Jenn was great about getting kids to participate as much or as little as they were comfortable with). Plus a bonus little extra quiet space for nursing moms or kiddos that need a little time to chill out AND a bonus little art table. Our guests used everything! We had Arlene and Jenn working our party and they made everything easy and comfortable and smooth. The food was really great, and the coffee was too. Lots of helpful details were taken care of, too: a sweet personalised sign greeting my daughter and her guests, balloons for the kids to take home, low key decorations. Arlene even brought me a glass of water when I was nursing my 8-​month old! So thoughtful and just really a super pleasant and easy way to have a super fun birthday party. Highly recommended!

We too hosted our son’s second birthday here and what a great space. Some things we loved:
* Set up and take down handled, clear event planning communication. Easy web tools.
* There are great food and drink options — SO hard to find a kid friendly space that also serves alcohol.
* The space itself worked well and had a good party feel — let toddlers play, but, also let adults mingle.
* Thoughtful and well curated toys.
* Details looked after — thought about cake logistics, gift table etc., initiated handing out the gift bags when I did not.
* Friendly «day of» staff — both Arlene and Meg were gracious and fun.
* Appreciated that all of the leftover food and drinks were carefully packed up for us to take home.
Check this place out — it’s fun for kids and easy on parents.

We recently hosted my sons 2^nd birthday here and it was terrific. Arlene was super easy to work with and plan all the details. The kids and parents had a blast with the play area and toys and it was the perfect setting for a toddler birthday party. We brought in an outside cake and Arlene worked with me on a simple, kid and adult friendly menu of snacks, drinks, etc. The parents appreciated the coffee/​tea station. Highly highly recommend.
