History

Established in 1999.

Trius Home Performance is a full-​service insulation contractor. We have been in business in Washington since 1999. We began with the Washington State Department of Commerce sponsored Weatherization Programs in 2003.

In the beginning of 2009, we moved our base of operation to Bellevue and began work for Ellensburg’s HopeSource, King County Housing Authority, and Seattle’s HomeWise program. We are qualified by Puget Sound Energy, Snohomish County PUD and Seattle City Light to provide insulation incentives and rebates. We are one of just a few contractors qualified to provide services and incentives through Seattle’s Community Power Works program.

We are now one of Seattle’s leading insulation contractors serving the entire Puget Sound region. Nearly every Seattle homeowner can save both energy and money by using an insulation contractor to weatherize their home. Good insulation is permanent, maintenance free, and can return your investment by lowering your utility bills.

My background is in Electrical Engineering and after a career in aviation electronics, managing engineering teams and a small business unit, I retired. My wife and I spent the next four years living on our boat and sailing the North American Pacific Coast from Alaska to Costa Rica.

During this exciting and humbling experience, I realized that I wanted to do something more fulfilling. So I returned home to Seattle, bought Trius and added offices in Ellensburg and Bellevue.

We have grown from a small contractor focused on remodeling and insulation to a full service contractor and energy consulting firm providing much a more comprehensive set of services. I’m now happy to be contributing to environmental improvements through energy savings and air quality improvements. It’s a lot of work and while sometimes those tropical beaches call my name, I could not be more satisfied than I am now, helping in our own small way.

More of a hassle than I expected, but we’re finally insulated.
First, the rep showed up and hadn’t looked at our CPW audit, which made me feel like either the audit was a waste of time or the rep had his own ideas about what he wanted to sell us. After we agreed on the contract to air seal and insulate the attic and exterior walls, the crew showed up a few weeks later. They did a great job insulating the attic and cleaned up after themselves inside the house.
The outside of the house was a little shocking.
Chipped paint everywhere, cracked siding, loose boards that hadn’t been resealed, a hole that went straight through the wall into my basement that hadn’t been patched (?!?). I let them know my concerns over email and they were very responsive. They sent someone to check out the damage the following day and then sent a guy to seal and patch up most of the damage. I completely understand that it’s an old house and you expect some damage when you insulate the walls, but they really didn’t seem to make any effort to do any touch up work until I requested it.
Part 2: We had initially agreed on insulating ALL exterior walls, including the wall between the kitchen and garage. They decided not to insulate this wall the first time around, for unclear reasons. Sheena was very responsive on email and phone, but I was told (not her fault) that they need to check whether the wall was actually covered in the initial price or wether they would have to charge me for it. It was DEFINITELY in the initial contract. After a little back and forth, they agreed and a few weeks later returned to finish the job without additional fees.
So, I’m happy to have a more energy efficient home, but not clear to me why it took many weeks, multiple calls and emails when I“m paying them thousands of dollars.

Trius did a fantastic job leading my whole house energy upgrade! The process was smooth and simple with great communication from their team, especially Sheena. We are now 70% below Seattle code, which means our entire energy bill is less than $ 30 per month to keep the home 72 – 75 degrees year round!

A few months ago, we converted our empty garage into a bedroom/​personal space. We called Trius to fit the insulation and readjust and reroute the heating and cooling ducts. At my request, Trius came early Saturday morning and then began insulating the walls and the entire room. I have to say, I found the Trius crew to be efficient and cheerful. They even left the place clean and tidy. As a matter of fact, after they were finished with their work it was hard to imagined that they have been there! I am very pleased with their work and our converted room is warm and cozy. I wouldn’t mind recommending them.

I’ve worked with Trius for the last 9 months through a City of Seattle program directed at energy efficency improvements. I’ve found them to be a good partner throughout the process. When fixing old homes, unexpected issues or unforseen costs come up. Trius has worked with me to address the issues in as cost effective and efficient manner. I’d recomend them to anyone looking at retrofiting a home to conserve energy and water.

I called Trius because I was looking for a company that offers a more competitive price in insulation. The previous companies I called had huge prices which made me hesitate to choose them. Good thing, Trius was LOWER than any of them.
They were able to complete the job. They removed the previous insulation at my attic and replaced it with a new and better insulation. They insulated even the walls. They sealed our entire house such as the ceiling hatches, electrical and plumbing penetration and all the cracks, holes and crevices they can seal. Nothing was left behind; even our gas fireplace was sealed.
They really delivered results. Our house is never too cold or too warm. The temperature is very even. The best thing about their service is that we were able to lessen our energy consumption, reduce our energy bills and save money. Good thing I decided to choose them.

They were reasonably priced but did an really good job installing the windows, making sure I was informed about the details and aware of the options. I was impressed with the professional service and advice.

I hired Trius to do some insulation work on our house, particularly sealing the attic and filling it with insulation, and insulating the crawl space. They did an excellent job. During the initial estimate I was given a list of options I could pursue, but for some options it was made clear that it wasn’t financially worthwhile for me to do this even though it would have meant additional work for Trius, and I appreciated this honest evaluation. The crew that did the work were very friendly and did their best to keep disruptions to a minimum, and they did an excellent job cleaning up after they were done. I also liked that prior to the work Trius provided me with a document that clearly explained what happens when they do different types of insulation work so we could be prepared. I am looking forward to lower energy bills this winter.
For the sake of an honest review, I should say that my initial dealings with Trius were not good; in fact, I felt that the salesman I dealt with treated me poorly. Without getting into a lot of details, Trius screwed up by overbooking their commitments, and the salesman acted like it was my problem to solve. I wrote a partial account of what happened and gave them a 1-​star rating on Unilocal.Just as I was finally getting an estimate from another contractor, the owner of Trius, Mark, saw my bad review and called me up to ask if they could be given another chance. I agreed to this, and agreed after meeting him to let them do the work since I felt that he was sincerely remorseful about what had happened. I know from conversations with him that during the 3-​month period my 1-​star review was on Unilocal that Trius lost significant business, and I am quite confident that he will not let this situation happen again, both by working hard not to overbook, and if by chance that happens again, to make sure that any customer affected by this is taken care of. If I need more insulation work done, I would be happy to have Trius do it.

We contracted w/​Trius via Seattle’s home energy savings program. The audit was the first home run… they noticed our furnace was spewing carbon monoxide — so this is the sort of lifesaving stuff one wants! Thanks Trius.
Then the bits and bobs of energy efficiency improvements they recommended were done. Work looked good to us, but this was verified by the audit this week — heat loss REDUCED! Thanks
