The Roosevelt Barbershop

It’s been 6 years since I wrote my last review of the Roosevelt Barbershop & I feel it’s well overdue for an update!
I’ve been a loyal customer to Rex, owner and barber at the Roosevelt. Before, Rex used to work at a couple of different barber shops in Seattle. I used to frequently visit him as a young UW student when he worked at Supreme Cutz on University Way. Over 10 years later, I still get my haircut from the same barber. Even better, he now owns his own barber shop.
I’ve changed my hairstyle a few times over the past 10 years and not once, has Rex ever messed up my hair. In fact, if he’s unavailable to cut my hair during a certain week, I’ll suck it up and have my hair all long and ugly, rather than to get it all jacked up by some random barber in the Seattle area. Its that worth it!
Anyways, make sure to call at least a week before your desired date, since they do get pretty busy. There are 2 other barbers there, Matt & Niko that both do great work as well. If you’re particular, call and ask to make an appointment with Rex. You won’t go wrong.
Also, the Roosevelt Barbershop cuts all variety of hair. If you want a clean fade with a line up or just a normal trim, or whatever! They can do it all! This shop is for everyone! Even my dad has gone there!
Prices: $ 25 for a haircut. (Cash Only) While it may be more expensive than Super Cuts or Sports Clips, it sure looks like it. Treat yourself to a nice haircut and look good! I’ve had countless friends and even strangers ask where I get my haircut.
The Roosevelt is definitely a top notch barbershop and you walk out feeling like a $ 100 bucks! The best in Seattle!

My husband has been getting his haircut from Rex for about 14 years. My son has been getting his haircut from Rex since he was 2. They always come home looking fresh. Rex does a great job with their hair. His customer service and friendly attitude is great and makes you feel welcome. All the barbers always greats the customers and do their best to fit them in even when busy. This is a great place for a haircut and highly recommended!

Been here a couple of times and I love it. The first time I went was with a friend since they’re generally busy so **definitely call ahead to make sure they’re free**. The atmosphere is what you’d expect from a barbershop: funny and vulgar. However, when it comes down to cutting your hair, they’re on point. This is a mans sanctuary without any interruptions.
Rex, from what everyone’s already wrote before is superb. Almost as if he sold a part of his soul to be THIS good at cutting hair. You immediately feel a sense of family when you sit in Rex’s chair. It’s so easy to be comfortable around all of them. I had that moment where I knew my hair is going to turn out great no matter what he did.
I ended up getting a mid fade, 1.5 on the sides. Sideburns were tapered all the way up. It couldn’t have turned out better. 25 $ for a line up, funny ass conversations and to feel good? That’s a steal. S/​o to everyone at Roosevelt near UW

Nothing’s better than the right cut. I had been trying this shop in North Ballard and after three cuts that just weren’t quite there, I decided to try to find something closer to home.
Patrick cut my hair, and did it right the first time. He’s been cutting for six years and nailed my beard, too, which was above my expectations.
No gimmicks here, just a barbershop. That’s what I want, and that’s what this is.

You need a cut and and lineup? The Roosevelt is the place to go. I would not and will not go anywhere else and schedule my work day around my appointments here. Close to the UW, it is frequented by many of the athletes who can attest first hand to their expertise in getting the cleanest cut in town. Look nowhere else, just the Roosevelt for a fresh cut and a taste of Seattle.

The Roosevelt Barber Shop is that place that I have been going to for a few years now, ever since I was referred by a friend. I have never been let down with the look I leave the shop with, and have always had great experiences going in.
All of the barbers are cool, but Rex is the guy I’ve been seeing the entire time I’ve been going there. The environment is laid back and they usually have some kind of sports show playing on the TVs around the shop. Sometimes they mute the TVs and play music instead. Either way, it’s not a bad environment for a haircut!
There is plenty of street parking, although it may be best to park right around the corner, since the street out front is a tow away zone after 4PM. I’ve never spent more than two minutes finding a spot nearby. There is also a bus stop right out front, and plenty of options for food or coffee nearby. It’s also right next to the freeway, so getting in and out isn’t hard by any means, even if you don’t live in the immediate area.
Since I found out about this place, I wouldn’t want to get my hair cut anywhere else. I plan on continuing to see Rex whenever I need to and appreciate the ability to fit my haircut into my schedule at a moment’s notice when necessary.
I would definitely recommend The Roosevelt as the place to go for your next haircut!

My name is Joey Salgado and I moved away from Seattle in 2009 to California. However, I started seeing Rex when I was 18 years old (I’m 29 now) at Supreme Cutz in the U district and he is as good as it gets. Until this day, I brag to my current barber here in Union City, CA about how good Rex was. From his haircuts, professionalism, comedic relief, and overall service he provided. HIs service is top-​notch and wouldn’t ask for a better barber. Rex is the reason why I had the hardest time finding a barber here in the Bay Area. He simply raised the bar way too high and no barber was able to reach his standard. If you’re from Seattle or visiting Seattle, you MUST get cut by Rex. Best barber, hands down, in the 206.

Great little barbershop near Greenlake. About 3 – 4 guys work the shop and all give great cuts. There’s always good conversation and sports on tv. Highly recommended.

They did an ok job, and seemed like funny guys, but when the two guys left before me after finishing their haircuts, they just started talking s**t about their «client.» So I have to figure they talked s**t about me as soon as I left. Actually I felt a little intimidated – like they’d hunt me down and beat the crap out of me if they saw my review. So I waited till I moved away before posting this, haha.
I wouldn’t call this place «professional» by any stretch. But they were nice to my face and my haircut wasn’t bad.
I don’t really care about the rumor that they wouldn’t serve a customer wearing OKC gear. In fact that pretty much sums this place up. If you think that story makes this place awesome, then you’ll probably like it here. If you think that story is an example of a business run by kids, you probably won’t like it here.

Best barbershop in Seattle hands down. A lot of the reviews that are less than 4 or 5 stars on this thread are rated so because of the way the barbers conduct themselves… ITS A BARBERSHOP… What do you expect? Great Barbers, fun conversations, and a must for a person who really appreciates the art of cutting hair. Go to NIKO (first chair on the right) for the best cut in the City.

This place was highly recommended to me, but after this I will never go to a place where I’m not seated facing the mirror. I asked for a short cut on the sides and about half off the top (which would have left me about an inch). After about an hour of testosterone-​laden barbershop talk, wondering what kind of masterpiece was being wrought up there, I finally got to look in a mirror and found my head was trimmed incredibly short all around and looked round as a bowling ball. In short, I got a cut I didn’t ask for, for more money then I’m used to spending, and it took an age. I don’t know if I got a barber in training or what, but either way I was not pleased.

Got a cut here a couple months ago. Took over an HOUR to get my haircut. Are you serious??? Who has time for that??? He also didn’t even do what I asked him to and the haircut HURT. Guys in the shop aren’t friendly and the haircuts are overpriced.

I just moved to Seattle and I am looking for a new barber. This will not be the place. The quality of the cut was good, but the price was absurd. I popped in to get the back of my neck shaved and the hair around my ears trimmed. I got exactly that, but the value for money doesn’t cut it for me.
The price board had a number of options. A touch-​up of some sort was around $ 10 or $ 15, a hair cut was listed around $ 25, a face shave was $ 40, and topping the price list there was an ambiguously named option simply called «The Roosevelt» for $ 50. Seeing as the barber didn’t touch anything on top of my head or on my face, I figured I was getting a check-​in (it has been two weeks since my last hair cut) or maybe I was receiving a hair cut.
However, as he was shaving my neck the barber said «Normally this would be $ 50, but I’ll just charge you $ 40 today.» I have a policy of not arguing with people who have blades pressed against my neck, especially when they are pretending to do me a favor, so I just said «Okay.» I paid the $ 40 plus $ 6 tip, dumbfounded.
The back of my head looks good. The place clearly has a loyal following. Perhaps it was my fault for not explicitly negotiating prices before sitting down or for pushing back when he told me the price, but I feel like I shouldn’t have to do such things.
In the end, I don’t know if the price I got charged is run-​of-​the-​mill or if he was just gouging me because I’m not a regular. Either way I won’t be back to see.

Best hair cut in Seattle hands down. Ronnell has been cutting my hair for about 3 years now and always does an excellent job. Has a classic barber shop feeling with a very welcoming enviroment, fantastic customer service and top notch quality. I have never walked away from the shop not feeling great about my hair cut.
10÷13÷12 — I got a great hair cut, the next day the Hawks beat the Patriots 24 to 23 and I got laid! Now I’m not saying this was directly related to the hair cut but I think its pretty hard to dispute the coincidence.

I agree with Joe G. He probably got the same guy I got.
I think his name is Jason, hes a big white guy with tats that wears a baseball cap. He is the «minion» and typically answers calls and makes the appts.
The first time I went in I got Jason because he was the only one available, eh, it was decent haircut. Thought it was odd how towards the end he’d ask «Rex» to come check out the cut to ensure it was OK. Thought that was weird. The entire time he was yapping and not really paying attention to my hair but luckily it turned out OK.
Second time in got Jason again secondary to his open schedule. This time the results were subpar at best. He cut without really knowing what he was doing, he clipped by ears with the buzzer and with the thinning shears he «pulled» out my hair instead of cutting it. Ouch! At the end again he called «Rex» over and I could tell Rex had skills but Jason screwed up my hair so bad there was only so much he could do.
Come on man! Its a buzz cut! How on earth can you get that wrong! I paid top dollar for an «apprentice» like haircut and that just won’t work.
Can’t comment on the other barbers but def avoid Jason (i.e., I think thats his name). If you do go get Rex.
Regardless, I am not going back.

I was visiting Seattle and needed a haircut. Unilocal pointed me to this place. Worse haircut ever!!!
I told the barber I wanted a trim with a little more off the top. He did the opposite. I guess he was too busy entertaining the other barbers with chatter about late night drinking and sports. The whole shop seemed more interested in entertaining one another than in hair-​cutting.

This is a serious barber shop. By this, I mean, they really are serious about providing good service and excellent cuts.
I’m sure all the barbers are good, but I see Ricky for beard trims and head shaves. He is a real professional, and craftsman. On top of that, he cares very much about providing a great service. I only wish I had found the shop earlier.

I feel ashamed to say so, but I am another typical «Super Cut Masters N Curl» haircut guy. After about the 30^th time of them not really understanding what kind of haircut I wanted, and ending up once again looking like I was fresh out of the mental institution. I decided that enough was enough, I would go get my haircut from somewhere nicer.
I checked out a few of the other Seattle staple barber shops, but after paying $ 28 and $ 40 at another place. I decided that I would give Roosevelt a try, plus they were right by my buss stop after getting off work.
After the first haircut I am hooked. These guys know how to wield scissors. I have had my hair cut by John, Roderick and Niko. They all do a great job. My wife (girlfriend at the time) couldn’t stop complimenting on how good of a job they did on my hair. They are not the most professional group of people, there are inappropriate jokes, hilarious commentary on whatever sport (or movie) is on. But hey, its a barber shop, that is half the fun/​entertainment.
Anyway, now a year and a half after my first visit. I came here once again last time to get my haircut before my Wedding, even though I moved from Seattle to Renton. Great place, will come back again.
