The Dental Shoppe

I went to see Dr. Sullivan to establish a new dentist since I had recently moved to the area. Great location, clean lobby, and modern technology, but my two stars comes from my interactions with everyone. Everyone seemed very robotic and not very warm. I felt was I treated like a child and Dr. Sullivan listed all these foods not eat that I already don’t eat and that I need to drink more water when I already drink a lot. She didn’t really listen to me when I told her I’m pretty healthy and I’m a regular brusher and flosser. I don’t think she believed me. Then she said I have four cavities that she couldn’t see on the x-​rays, but could see by looking at my teeth. I found that be odd. After that I had my teeth cleaned and the lady who cleaned my teeth also made me feel like a child. Everything I had to say about my oral routine was not good enough, then she showed me how to brush and floss my teeth like I have never done that before. By the end of my time there I felt awful about myself.

Best dental experience I’ve had. Just got two fillings (one was fixing a poorly-​done filling from a different dentist), and it was a great, pain-​free experience (as far as dental work is concerned). I could tell when she was drilling that she was taking care to be gentle and was exhibiting great craftsmanship while shaping the fillings. She almost got the bite perfect the first go around, requiring just a tad more trimming down right there in the chair. Two thumbs up!

BEST DENTIST I’ve ever been too! After an unfortunate event over the weekend, which resulted in a chipped tooth and very sore mouth, at the recommendation of one of Dr. Sullivan’s staff, I was immediately scheduled within a day of calling the office. They even scheduled me super early in the morning so that I didn’t miss any work. I went in thinking I was just going to get an evaluation to see what needed to be done, but Dr. Sullivan fixed my chipped tooth right then! My poor mouth and face was in so much pain, but both her and her assistant were so gentle, it was by far the best experience I’ve ever had, even though I was miserable. She then recommended I see a specialist, to discuss possible nerve damage, and gave me a great recommendation. I live all the way in Kirkland, so Capitol Hill is not convenient for me at all, but I would go there again in a heartbeat. The office had convenient parking, exceptional front desk staff, beautiful space, and even a massaging, warm chair while I sat through my visit! (A first for me!) Would HIGHLY recommend this office for your dental needs! Thank you Dr. Sullivan and staff!

Dr. Sullivan and her staff are the best! Friendly, caring and professional care has been the norm on each and every visit. The office is modern and inviting. Definitely the best dental care I have ever received.

I just moved to Seattle from south King County and was looking for a new dentist. The Dental Shoppe is very close to my apartment and got good reviews so I decided to try it out. The staff were very friendly and the office was clean and modern. It was all going well until Dr. Sullivan told me I needed ELEVEN FILLINGS. My last dental check up was less than a year earlier and they hadn’t recommended any fillings.
I went back to my old dentist in Kent for a second opinion and he disagreed with 10 of Dr. Sullivan’s recommendations. I would advise anyone to stay away from this dentist’s office unless you want to spend hundreds on unnecessary dental work.

I had my first appointment today and I could not be happier. Everyone was really nice and professional. My hygienist did a great job and Dr Sullivan took her time to explain what I could improve and answer any questions I had. I’ll be referring as many people as I can to Dr Sullivan and her team.

This a clean, modern and efficient dental office. I really like Dr Sullivan and her staff. Going to the dentist is never fun but I’ve been here a few times and I seem to get in and out pretty painlessly. It’s right next to my work so bonus stars for such a convenient location

Great new practice on Capitol Hill. Was able to confirm my insurance and make an appointment within a week of calling. Latest technology, they took photos and scans of all my teeth. I think I finally found my dentist after years of searching.

Today was my first appointment at The Dental Shoppe. I recently moved to the Capitol Hill area and wanted a Dentist close by. My previous Dentist in Portland set the bar very high. So my expectations were low.
The Dental Shopped has a nice, clean office, albeit a little more sterile feeling than necessary, maybe which gives off a cold feeling.
As far as skill/​professionalism. Dr. Sullivan is fantastic. Very nice, very thorough, none of the horror stories you hear from some people about a Dentist who suggests unnecessary treatments. I was very impressed with her.
My hygienist’s name was Samira. She was excellent. I can’t really say enough. She was so polite, gentle, thorough and smart. I was beyond impressed with her professionalism, she was humble, very good at what she does. Nothing bad to say about her. Unfortunately she was just in for the day, filling in for someone else. That’s a shame, because I would definitely want her as my hygienist next time.
There was a little bit of cattiness I noticed with some of the others in the office, as far as the way they talked to Samira. I thought that was a bit childish, and unprofessional. Samira rose above it, didn’t make any comments back to them, even in the face of a few rather rude and condescending comments lobbed at her. While I understand that she is a temporary fill-​in, I think their behavior was pretty inappropriate. She was fantastic in every way, so I will chalk it up to people back-​biting out of some kind of inner jealousy/​competition.
Had it not been for the behavior of these other folks, I would have definitely given TDS a 5-​Star review. No frills, basic Dental office, but they delivered an overall experience that definitely deserves 4-​Stars.
I will definitely go back in 6 months for my next cleaning. I hope that today was just a one-​time thing as far as the catty behavior of a select few.

The Dental Shoppe is fantastic. I had an emergency and they fit me the same day. After stabilizing me, two days later I went in for the major work. I having had three other experiences with root canals with other dentists and I was really expecting the worst.
It was easy breezy. In the past I felt, like I was choking for three hours. Dr. Sullivan made it quick and painless. Her and her assistant (s) had great «bed side» manner. One thing that I did notice that is certainly worth mentioning, all of the technology and tools they used were ALL top-​shelf. I don’t know anything about these sorts of things but I could really tell they were using top end products. Heck the chair was heated and massaging!
Since becoming a regular patient there, I referred my wife and a few other folks. They also have said great things too.

My husband referred me to the Dental Shoppe after he had a good experience with some difficult dental procedures. Like many people, I don’t like visiting the dentist and am usually on edge while there. My husband assured me that Dr. Sullivan and her team were really professional, nice and that I’d be in great hands — he was right.
The practice itself is located in a very convenient place on Capitol Hill and even has parking (garage parking!). The clinic was very clean when I walked in and I was immediately greeted.
I only had a teeth cleaning but even those make me nervous. But the technician did a great job and talked me through the parts to ease ease my nerves. In no time I was done and Dr. Sullivan was there to complete the examination. She was very friendly and knowledgable.
I left with dental goodies and a big smile on my face! Thanks for a great experience Dr. Sullivan and staff at the Dental Shoppe.

Her office is impeccably clean, stylishly modern and her dental assistants seem to genuinely enjoy what they do. Everyone seemed excited to share their wealth of knowledge and explain why/​how they were doing throughout my appointment.
So far, I have had two cleanings. My last hygienist recommended the DiamondClean toothbrush by Philips – this single suggestion has made me look forward to brushing and travel since the toothbrush charges by USB.
I also scheduled to have an internal bleaching procedure to correct a darkened tooth. Well, I missed my original appointment for the bleaching. They kindly rescheduled for another appointment.
Although Dr. Sullivan clearly explained what the procedure entailed, the words DRILL, numbing injection (I very much dislike needles) and pressure still stood out. During the second appointment I was an emotional wreck once I sat in the chair and was surrounded by all of the instruments. Despite the fact that the entire room had been prepped and the schedule cleared for my procedure, Dr. Sullivan and her assistant actually reminded me that I could hold off until I was more comfortable with the procedure since it was simply cosmetic and not critical to my health. I think this speaks volumes. I never felt rushed to make my decision and I left feeling like I had made the right choice. This is a true refection of the quality of service you can expect from Dr. Sullivan.
I’ve seen several dentists as a result of relocation, but none of them are as attentive, compassionate and knowledgable as Dr. Sullivan.

So let’s just say that yesterday I had a situation with my teeth and it I needed a emergency rescue.
Like emergency!!! I called around the hill, and it was quite difficult because to find an opening the day of was seemingly impossible. The other dental offices weren’t that nice but at the dental shoppe, they were so nice and got me in. It was a consultation but they ended up getting me in!
I am terrified of the dentist and I still don’t care much in going in. Worst dental patient ever! But, with their fast fingers, I might just be a regular. Maybe…
My fix was fast, and definitely not painless, but as painless as a visit to the dentist can be. The staff seems to be women only, and I am totally into that. It was comforting. Those ladies sure know what they are doing!!! :)
This place saved me from looking like a crack addict. Thank you Tara’s! The Dentist and assistant were both named Tara. :) As for the work that Dr. Tara did was actually better than my initial dentist that did my cosmetic work, and that in itself is a winner in my book.

Short version:
After subsequent visits, I feel confident in upgrading my review to 3 stars, based on convenience, speed, ease of scheduling and the ability to submit your paperwork online. I’m seriously not sure how becoming a new patient could have been easier, and their location (plus parking!) is super killer (you’re close to everything Pike/​Pine!). But seriously: I hate insurance calculations. Like, super hate. People who figure it out should be paid a LOT more than whatever they’re making. Generally, I’m used to receiving a little more proactive «hand holding» customer-​service wise, and the lack of it made for a more negative initial experience than necessary. However, Dr. Sullivan was very concerned with making sure my questions were answered once she realized I had them, which is a bonus in a healthcare professional these days.
Long version:
Despite my concerns, I realized that maybe I hadn’t been the best patient or asked the right questions. Plus, looking at the calendar and not willing to gamble on finding appointments (end of the year busy season, with a reasonable commute, and without having to take time off of work) — I decided to suck it up and see if I could make a good situation out of bad.
Shortly after my initial review, I called the office and [details redacted] did not have a conversation that gave me any additional confidence with regard to the situation. So during my 2^nd appointment, I took the opportunity to ask questions about my treatment plan. To my great relief, all of my questions were answered readily and cheerfully, and I left with a complete understanding of the procedures and what they would entail. I still didn’t have a super great answer about the billing/​insurance estimate issue, but decided not to press. I started to feel like I was being nit picky and that I was wrong to question it at all.
3^rd appointment: By now I’d just decided to go through with my treatment plan despite the cost and my misgivings. I didn’t want to have to find another dentist that I liked as well or schedule appointments during the time I needed them. This appointment was smooth, pain free, and *fast*. I was delighted to be done about 15 minutes early! I paid the amount they estimated for me and hoped for the best.
After reviewing my insurance information for what felt like HOURS, I realized that my irritation was the difference between what my insurer communicated and what the Dental Shoppe’s estimate conveyed. In short, no one explained the difference between their charges and what my insurance covered, or *how* they calculated the estimated amount due. Maybe that isn’t important to you, but I like to know how much I’m being charged, where my healthcare dollars are going, how my insurance plan works, and how to limit my out of pocket expenses. Sure — we could argue whether it is the provider’s responsibility to help the patient in this way, but regardless, I’m used to working with billing specialists, and my initial experience would have been better if The Dental Shoppe had one.
All that being said? I would definitely recommend Dr. Sullivan to anyone in the Capitol Hill, First Hill, South Lake Union, Montlake, or Eastlake neighborhoods.

Location is walking distance from home, the office is very clean, neat & cute, the chairs have built in massagers and the staff is excellent.
Alike everyone else, I hadn’t been to the dentist in years. Scary. The last time I saw a dentist I left the office cringing and scarred for life. But alas, I had a toothache. Painful! Couldn’t sleep at night. I let it go on for a couple of days but couldn’t bear the ibuprofen and ice packs any more.
Made an appointment for a week in advance, thought ok. I can wait. But no, couldn’t even make it through work!
I called the office with my ailments and talked to Carrie (spelling?) and they were able to fit me in the day of.
Dr. Sullivan was excellent. She took the time to explain everything that needed to happen and what the game plan was. She and her assistant Nina were fantastic and very welcoming and nice, not so scary after all!
They made sure I was comfortable, pain free and relaxed.
This is my new go to and I am looking forward to getting my teeth cleaned every 3 months! … Seriously

I recently moved to Cap Hill, and as much as I hate going to the dentist these people made me want to stop by and drop off food for them on my way to work from now on.
Everything is brand new, including the high-​end equipment and devices that they use. The patient chair has massage settings!
Nina was really cool, has great taste in music, and was great conversation while I waited. Dr. Sullivan was personable, wicked smart (insert Goodwill Hunting accent), and gentle while working on me.
She will be my dentist indefinitely and I’ve already referred her to all of my friends and family in the area.
Love this place!

After my first visit with Dr. Sullivan, I will definitely be coming back and am happy to have found a great dentist in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
The office is very nicely appointed and very clean. You can tell Dr. Sullivan has put a lot of effort into creating a clean, comfortable environment. All the equipment appeared brand new and they used some high tech instruments I actually hadn’t seen before. The massaging chair during the appointment was also much appreciated.
Most importantly, Dr. Sullivan and her assistant Nina provided great care. Dr. Sullivan was very knowledgeable and took the time to ask me about my past dental health history and health goals going forward. Additionally, many of the examination and cleaning procedures which usually cause me some discomfort were actually very easy and pain free with Dr. Sullivan… a great change from some of my past dentists.
If you’re looking for a dentist in the Seattle area, I would highly recommend The Dental Shoppe and Dr. Sullivan.

Dr. Sullivan and Nina, her dental hygienist, are amazing! Very personable and friendly.
I really did have the best dental experience ever here and I received a ton of free dental products after my cleaning! Dr. Sullivan is very approachable, super personable, and knowledgeable. Nina is also a gem, very smart and friendly.
I had a full examination with x-​rays and a cleaning. The office office is impeccable, and they utilize the most modern technology. It is really impressive.
I will not trust anyone else with my teeth. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. One of the best Seattle has to offer. Guaranteed.

There is absolutely nothing to dislike, and quite a bit to outright love about The Dental Shoppe.
The office is meticulously designed, Nina, who is the front desk person and the dental assistant is wonderful and the the doctor herself is personable and skilled.
It helps that their pricing is good, and they accept Regence, which is my dental provider.
If you are looking for a dentist on Capitol Hill, you should definitely go to The Dental Shoppe.
