After 18 years together my partner told me we were DONE if I wouldn’t go to couples therapy.
In a nutshell, I was drug kicking and screaming.
Issuing me that ultimatum was the BEST thing my partner ever did for our relationship. Agreeing was the best thing I ever did for our relationship.
I’m not big on the woo-​woo but choosing Ms. Prescott as our therapist somehow seems like a gift from beyond.
We had a couples session every week for a year. Then every other week for about six months. Then once month for a couple months.
We haven’t had a session in almost a year so I feel like there is enough water under the bridge to determine how helpful the therapy was.
I cannot even begin to explain how much Ms. Prescott helped us change our lives. We learned skills to help us as a couple but we also worked on our own individual issues as well — but as a couple.
I feel like I’ve never known my partner better. And I also feel like we are communicating more clearly and have better boundaries with each other and our families. And yet we are also more empathetic and supportive of one another.
