Svedala Bakery

This place is right next to the I Love New York deli
that is dangerous for me as I can get a big ass Pastrami and some yummy pastries afterwards or while I wait for my sammich, got some yummy bread today oh man it was good may have to go back for more yummy treats
but then I will be next to Pastrami again :)

Holy shit the mazarin (almond tart) was delicious, a perfect mix of pastry crust and soft gooey almondy center. Total cost: $ 2.

Visited Svedala Bakery as part of the Savor Seattle Off the Beaten Path tour. It was my favorite stop and we really enjoyed both the education on Swedish traditions and the treats! The air pressed (I cannot remember the correct term) is wonderful and tasty enough not to need cream or sugar. My favorite treat was the almond torte and I will definitely be returning for more!

I’m descended from the Seattle Swede community. No really, my Grandma is in the «Swedish Seattle» historic book. You know, the ones you browse at Elliot Bay Book Co.
I work at the market, and was thrilled when this place opened up. The desserts and breads are delicious and homey.
Eating a piece of limpa is like getting a warm hug from Grandma.
I hope they get more treats!

Found Svedala by virtue of Savor Seattle tour and was very impressed. Each of the treats we tried — the chocolate drom rulle and the mandelfalta — were excellent. Despite having Swedish blood I had never had any of these treats, and I’ll be coming back every time I’m in Seattle. My wife and I went back and tried the special coffee too — loved it. Excellent treats to enjoy while perusing the market.

I arrived as they were opening their tiny booth eager to try something new. I basically kept walking back and forth in front of the booth– as the counter worker filled the tiny display case. After about 15 minutes of waiting, I realized that there wasn’t going to be any other options put in the case, and approached to order. We chatted and on recommendation I tried a cookie. At that point my choices were between that, a little torte, and a fruit pastry. I had been hoping for more to choose from, but was informed that more food was about 30 away– it was being taken out of the oven.
I ate my cookie on my walk to the ID and loved it. The taste was sharp and different, the texture perfect, and the item as a whole really good. I believe lots of ginger was in it.
Svedala Bakery is quaint, eager to please, and selling something that is different then what I typically come across in Seattle when looking for a dessert. I really like this bakery.

I have only been there once but being a Swedish expat, this is just what I need. Swedish «limpa» is arguably a really boring kind of bread but if you were raised on it, you still crave it. And the other baked goods we tried (it was a couple of months back so I forget what we bought) was just like home too. So if you want a genuine Swedish experience, stop by here on your next Pike Place Market trip.

This little kiosk specializing in Swedish baked goods is by the mini-​donut stand and the I Love New York sandwich & knish place, right in the entry off of Pike. The first thing you’ll notice is all the pretty colors — pink! Yellow! Then you’ll notice the average size of the baked good — just enough for one, maybe not enough for sharing — all the more for you. And yay, even though it’s not marked as such on the sign at the stand, they even have a gluten-​free cookie.
The Tosca cake is seriously addicting — soft buttery cake with a nice, carmel-​y topping of almonds, and yet, not overly sweet. Most of the baked goods here don’t get as sweet as more traditional bakeries, which I think is a good thing (exception to sweetness rule: the pink Mazarin tarts. A bit much for me). Today I sampled a blueberry tart of some sort and the blueberries were ripe and bursting their juices all over the soft cake, rather than baked to oblivion like some bakeries would do. Simply lovely.
Also try the gingerbread cookie Skane Pepparkakon. A bit different than the stuff used to make gingerbread men, less spicy, but still undeniably gingerbread — there’s real chunks of ginger to prove it.
Svedala gets great marks for sheer originality — these aren’t the same cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies you’d find at any other bakery in town. And that’s a good thing. Maybe you don’t have anything to compare the goods to, but even if you did, I’m pretty sure Svedala would come out on top.

FYI: they are on the far L side of Pike Place market (if you find the Rachel the Pig statue, turn left down that area where there’s a hotdog place and a newspaper stand at the very end).
This place is wonderful! I made a trip down there today and made it worth my while by buying everything I wanted to try: a dröm rulle, mandelfläta, katalan, biskvi, and a himmelska cake. You can buy happiness, and it comes in a box from Svedala!
Prices are totally reasonable, help is friendly, and treats are delicious, fresh, and sans high fructose corn syrup… who could ask for more?

My review is for Svedala’s new location in Pike Place Market.
Wonderful, simply wonderful. Each item is bursting with amazing flavor. I love the Cardamom bread is out standing.
If I could, I would get something from there every single day.

DELICIOUS! Wonderful Swedish baked goods. My personal favorites are the Cardamom Bread– with almond paste, Biskvi– filled with layer of coconut and pastry cream wrapped in a ganache shell, Tosca– coffee cake with an almond-​crusted top! I also pick up the Cardamom Bread and Tosca at Whole Foods if I do not want to go the Pikes Place Market.

Don’t make the mistake of walking by this new stand in the Pike Place Market, and not stopping! Their Swedish treats look so unassuming and understated… but that’s the point. My favorite treat (although, I have many!) is the mazarin.
If you like almond paste, you’ll dig this place. They’ve also recently started serving coffee too, so it’s the perfect coffee break stop.

I was strolling around Pike Market this weekend and noticed a booth for Svedala Bakery. I haven’t had really fresh Swedish breads since I was visiting Gothenburg and I couldn’t resist sampling from the little plate they had set out. It was nummy!
I picked up a loaf of Mandelfläta (I think that’s what it was) and it is absolutely delish. I talked to the nice folks to see if and when the Semla would be coming out.
TWO MORE WEEKS! I’ll be headed back downtown to stock up on some yummy treats.

Pure awesome! AND — they’ve just opened in Pike Place. Try to catch them on a day that they’ve made caramel rolls from the cardamom bread.

Claes & Kristina are wonderful bakers, and their products are second to no one (well except for perhaps my mother… a Finnish baker). I have enjoyed every bakery item I’ve purchased from them at our Edmonds Farmers Market the past 2 seasons. Everything is very fresh and made with the best quality ingredients.
My favorite Svedala Bakery item is their Mandelfläta (cardamom almond bread).
