Stoup Brewing

The highlight of Stoup is their upstairs beer garden. It’s just about the perfect spot to enjoy a beverage during the summer. Their dark beers are great and there is a fantastic selection of everything else, especially IPAs. The staff are polite and fast to take orders. Dogs are welcome here and add to the ambiance. The glasses are reminiscent of high school chemistry. An all-​around great place and a staple of Ballard.

Stoup is a pretty great spot, with a great atmosphere and a solid beer selection. The patio is wonderful for hanging out, with plenty of space, colorful chairs, and pretty lighting. There’s a rotating schedule of food trucks (check their website) and they allow food from outside. Overall, a great place to hang out. However, I really wish they stayed open an hour later, especially as the days get longer and the weather starts to warm up!

Placed was jam packed when the lady and I stopped by. Pretty cool spot, beers were pretty good. I ordered the NW Red and the lady got the Mosaic Pale Ale.

Great beers in a fun atmosphere and outside beer garden! Usually a food truck out front. The Hefe is the best but the seasonal stout and porter made my taste buds dance this spring.

It’s a gorgeous sunny spring afternoon in Seattle and you want to grab a beer with the folks near Fremont, where do you go? Chuck’s was absolutely packed with people. Ruben’s and Populuxe, with their fantastic brews and small spaces were equally swamped. I suggested Stoup because they are good at handling large crowds. In addition to having significant space outdoors and inside, they had a good system of handling the orderly, Seattle-​type line snaking out the door.
I’m not a fan of their IPAs, but their Mosaic Pale Ale is one of my all time favorite beers anywhere. Also really delicious were the German Style Pilsener, Hoppy Farmhouse, Rye Saison and Sour Beer.

Awesome place. I had the Citra IPA, Belgian stout, Double IPA, and Northwest IPA. All were excellent!
The bartenders were incredibly polite & they knew everything about the brewery. From its inception to where it’s going, I was able to walk out of Stoup with a great familiarity of the place.
Nice, laid back vibe in the tasting room & the Beer Garden was a great addition (even in the 55 degree chill outside). I will definitely be making a trip back to Stoup ASAP, and fully recommend it to all.

Lots to love here, especially the patio on a sunny day. IPA’s were right in line with goodness. Line to get in the door unexpected, they need to figure that out or that will be a deal breaker in the future.

First date chronicles: Stoup date was a success! It was a (rare) warm, sunny day in March so my date and I opted for an outdoor patio date. Stoup’s patio is spacious, colorful, and the brewery is *just* far enough away from the craziness of Market & Ballard Ave.
I drank a Citra IPA & a Hoppy Farmhouse Ale. Saisons & farmhouse ales are my favorite styles of beer, and I can say with confidence that Stoup brews ‘em right. The Citra IPA on the other hand didn’t pack enough of a flavor punch. It was too light on flavor and a little disappointing.
I LOVE this brewery trend of bring-​your-​own food. We sat near a couple that shared an entire pizza (couple goals, right?) which only made us ravenous with hunger and unfortunately… the guest food truck had packed up just as we had arrived. We would have stayed longer had there been a food option — even just a light snack.

Decent beer, not as many options as some but good overall. They have a nice outdoor area and a good open tap room.

So, Stoup make a pretty darn good Beer really like this place good vibe when you come in they only have a few Beers on Tap but they do them all well better then having 10+ Beers and only 2 are good so I’m not mad about it at all. Only been once so far but I’ll be back for sure

I appreciated the open-​air seating, the fact that it’s pet-​friendly, and the games available for entertainment. What I did not appreciate so much, although the beer was good, was how there were no description provided for the beers listed. I would have liked to know the ingredients and flavors used to make these beers before I order instead of trying to guess while already drinking them.

Maybe I’m being unfair because this is the second brewery I’ve reviewed in a night, but I’m having a better time at this one and the beers I’ve ordered here have been tastier. No pretzels but a better atmosphere overall I think. I’d probably come back here even though the selection is smaller, maybe 10 beers vs 30. But the ones I’ve had seemed better overall.
Also, the bathroom has a changing table and a bunch of markers and crayons. I don’t have kids, but I’d like to think this is the kind of drunk parent I want to be someday.

This place was poppin’ & it’s not hard to see why. Of all the Seattle breweries we were able to visit, I think Stoup was our favorite overall.
They have a good selection, leaning more heavily on the hoppy spectrum, and they’re all done well. The brewery was very family friendly, and while it’s a bit small, they did manage to pack quite a good number of tables and bar seats in the space.
If you’re visiting Seattle for beer, definitely make it a point to stop by Stoup.

I am loving all these new family, dog friendly breweries popping up all over the place! Thank you for realizing people with families also like to enjoy a beer out in public!
Showed up on a Friday night and the place was crowded. They had a food truck parked outside which was very popular.
They have a great outdoor patio! We were lucky to have great weather when visited in October so got to enjoy it!
I enjoyed their beer. Not my favorite but decent. They do have many ipas to pick from! One thing the beers seemed a bit more then typical small breweries in the area.
Service was great. Had someone asking and pouring out in the line to get everyone their beer quicker.
Also they have another bathroom upstairs.

I am giving this place 4-​stars because I think the owner lives on top of their brewery and I am so jealous because my life dream would be to wake up and go downstairs to admire my ginormous kingdom of beers.
Ok but really, this place is an amazing place to grab a beer and relax. They have a spacious outdoor patio area in an orange and teal color palette that’ll make you feel like you need nothing else in life than a hoppy glass of Northwest IPA and good company.
They don’t serve food, but they have a rotation of food trucks that come through right outside. But if not, their beers will fulfill your needs and keep you full.
I’ll be back. To find out who the owner is and ask him how I too will be able to achieve my microbrewery/​home dreams.

As you may have noticed, I am a big fan of the patio from Stoup. While Reuben’s patio around the corner is always a sure stop on a brewery night for me, I always feel so relaxed at Stoup with its more spacious patio seating arrangement.
I think it’s the chairs, oddly enough. A few times I’ve been able to snag these beautiful brightly colored Adirondack wooden lawn loveseats. Sitting here with a beer in my hand, a puppy at my feet and a great food truck out front is really lovely night.
This is not to discredit the beer. Their Hef is one of my favorites in the city. It’s menu doesn’t change, but for good reason– solid choices and their precise brewing style makes them consistent and well-​thought out.

I recently learned about this brewery via the guest taps at Holy Mountain Brewing Company. I’m glad I did, as Stoup has some killer german styles in their portfolio. Stoup is located in a heavy industrial area in Ballard. The theme of the taproom reflects the area, with metal chairs, edison bulbs, and a huge garage door that opens when it’s warmer out.
I visited with my partner on a rainy Tuesday evening. Even with a weekday downpour, the taproom was packed. Since Stoup is strictly a taproom and not a brewpub, you’ll often find a food truck parked out front. On this particular night, it was a crêpe truck. The inside is mostly an open floor plan. The tanks for the brewery are not stuck behind glass, but out in the open for all to see. Stoup even offers a row of seating facing in to the brewery.
I tried two beers, the Bavarian Hefeweizen and the Northwest IPA. For the Hefeweizen, Stoup uses a German yeast strain. I found it on par with most standard hefeweizens. Very crisp and refreshing, and the banana/​clove did not dominate. Their NW IPA met my expectations of an IPA from the area. The beer is dry hopped and the end result is a hop forward, piney and floral IPA. It’s very hoppy while still retaining its own discernible character. Most of the beers come in a variety of sizes, including $ 2 tasters, and most can be bought in ³²⁄₆₄ oz growlers. I recommend a visit to Stoup for anyone wanting a laid back experience set in a unique industrial environment. Their respect and mastery of traditional German technique mixed with a killer lineup of west coast style ales is worth your attention.

Unbelievably tasty beer and so well balanced. There’s about 10 brews available and they cover the full spectrum through wheat beers, lagers, traditional ales, pales, IPAs, porters, stouts, and sours. Get a six glass flight and tuck in!
The tap room itself is super friendly with kids and dogs welcome (a big change for us BC Beer tourists!).
A must for any beer fan.
