Specialties
Sodo Pop is an event space without catering restrictions making it both unique and affordable. The space includes a bar area, kitchenette, PA sound system, dance floor, air-conditioning and disco ball.
This is a multi-pupose room where you create your vision. It legally holds 99 people with bonus areas such as a large over-flow hall, small vip room and outside balcony.
A flat rate rental exists for the «do it yourself» people or the hosted option offers the opportunity for your guests to «chip in» and pay the expenses. With the exception of the $ 10 banquet permit, entertianment, optional food & décor, Sodo Pop manages the open bar, staff, ticketing, taxes and licenses. Once the expenses are paid, you keep the balance; it’s a great way to afford catering, your favorite band or DJ or use to fundraise! A typical per person rate is $ 20 to $ 25.
Take advantage of the low rates as the building’s seismic retrofit nears completion.
History
Established in 1991.
My first ever event was after the Screaming Trees played the Moore Theater in 94. I was still up the street in my old location, now the Colbalt Blg. My sister Julie and Debbie R. were home from WSU, their first bartendering jobs.
Chris Dowd (Fishbone) opened, Barrett Martin (Trees) played drums for Uncle Dirt Nap; Sister Psychic headlined. Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez (Alice in Chains) were there until the wee hours. It was a blast and completely out of control.
I watched Pat Pederson’s (Skin Yard, Sister Psychic) wife get swept down the hall as a tidal wave of people hit her, trying to collect $ 5.
Haven’t stopped since, in 95 the events evolved into after hours at «2424» very known to underground Seattle for years. Scouts for the tv series «Frasier» reference the after hour scene with the band «Uncle Dirt Nap». Scenes from MTV’s «Real World» filmed on site. Eventually I hosted raves in the late 90’s, up to 700 people.
Sodo Pop (2002) is the result today, same location.
Meet the Business Owner
Jodi O.
Business Owner
This adventure started after graduating from Bethel College (St Paul, MN) and relocating back to Seattle in 1988. There was a developing Seattle music scene and I was fortunate in creating a niche.
The business has taken on a life of it’s own. I knew I wanted to be a business owner, and believed it would in form of a gymnastics training facility as I was an elite gymnast mentored by Gary Goodson, the US National Technical Director.
Avernus Productions (now Seattle Rehearsal) was est. 1991 and began with 900 SF as hourly rehearsals. I grew another few hundred SF when Peal Jam needed production space, my first monthly rental. In 1994, the events began.
Now, 19 yrs later I own the 18,000 SF property as Opitz Properties containing Seattle Rehearsal (31 studios) and Sodo Pop.
Currently underway; Starlodge Studios, an on site recording studio with a seperate mixing and mastering studio as I’ve teamed up with multi-platinum Producer-Engineer-Musician-Writer, Dave Hillis.
