Terrible customer service when it comes to resolving issues. Wait time is long, drivers in Seattle are few and their rates simply are not competitive compared to über. I do however, like every driver that I have rode with. The drivers are pleasant but not the same can be said about the people who run the customer service part.
It started in SF so I’m sure it’s a whole different experience there but the Seattle Market has not responded well to clientele needs. There’s a smaller population, accessibility for driving and parking is better so they should come up with a different strategy for attracting the Seattle market. There is no size for all when looking at each city Sidecar launches.
In short– über is just the way to go. Sidecar does not have any contact information for you in case something happens. A lot of my emails go unanswered or they are answered after a week has gone by. Drivers constantly cancel on you when they have already requested the ride. There was a driver that kept always popping up in my feed as available but as soon as I request him, he would be gone.
They recently promoted a Groupon. $ 10 for $ 30 or $ 5 for $ 25. On the $ 5 dollar deal, I could not load the promo code with an error saying it was only for new customers. I emailed groupon expecting they would sort it out with sidecar. I’m sure I wasn’t the only person that bought it and wondered why I couldn’t enter it. Luckily, I got a hold of someone to load the code after waiting a week. I would think that Groupon would push back and tell sidecar to fix the issue and then publish the deal. These «easy» deals kind of service is popping up everywhere and all are pretty terrible. No customer interactions ever. I still like certain things the good old fashion way like going to Nordstrom and getting a good personal experience.

I tried SideCar for the first time and I am impressed! Not only do you get to pick what car you ride in but they tell you exactly how close they are. Our driver even had snacks and water for our ride and he was thoroughly entertaining, so awesome!

Pretty good job. Things mostly go fine almost all of the time.
The key difference with SideCar is mostly a driver benifet; since users map out beginning and destination, the drivers can be choosy where they want to end up and/​or how long the rides they want to take are expected to be.
Besides that, it’s just like Lyft, and a bit of a cheaper UberX.
The drivers are fine. I like them more than UberX drivers, and slightly less than Lyft drivers.
The standard rideshare system of users being able to ban drivers and vice versa applies.
I use their service often and with general approval.

DON’T use this service, there are MANY other services out there that we’ll take you where you need to go. I was triple charged for rides, and the driver is not ever obligated to finish your ride is what the rep told me. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! They can just drop you off? WTF?! It also took the driver 40 minutes to pick me up after requesting the ride! Hah… Über is here in 4.

I woke up last Saturday night to realize I’d slept through my alarm and missed the last bus into Seattle. «Crap, I’ll be late for work.»

I downloaded the Sidecar app not long after it’s launch in Seattle and figured I’d have a need for it at some point. After nearly a year, this seemed like as good of an opportunity as any. I opened up the app and set my starting and ending points. It’s pretty easy to navigate, even when you’re stressed and still half asleep. Within seconds I got a phone call from Octavio letting me know he was on his way. It took 25 minutes or so for him to show up, which was completely reasonable considering he drove all the way to Lynnwood from Ballard to pick me up. Like with all rideshare/​e-​hail apps, you’re able to track your driver’s progress along the way, which is much more comforting than the constant guessing when you call a cab.
Octavio arrived in his late-​model Volvo, and we were off. As others have mentioned, I sat in the front seat because it just felt more natural. We talked about Sidecar, the rideshare regulation battle, journalism, and so on. I felt far more relaxed than I have in pretty much every taxi I’ve ever ridden in. No worrying about the meter (as I’d already gotten a fare estimate when booking the ride). No worrying that the driver would try to rip me off, or refuse my credit card. The car was clean, and Octavio was friendly, and seemed to relaly love driving for Sidecar. When I got out of the car, a message popped up on my phone telling me how much the «suggested donation» was, allowing me to move the amount up or down. I was also able to rate my ride through the app. No fumbling for cash. It’s all done electronically.
About the same price as a cab, but you get piece of mind and better service. Highly recommend this service.

I had a bad experience with them. I ordered a ride and the driver canceled on me. Then he shows up on my door step wanting his fare. I had a receipt showing the cancellation. He left angry and the next day I was charged a $ 7.00 donation fee. Never again.

I was told not to expect much, because there was a lot going on yesterday between the Mariners game and the Sub Pop Silver Jubilee. Supposedly, during Pride it was impossible to get a car to come pick you up. We were heading to the Jubilee, and I really didn’t want to deal with G-​town parking, so decided to give SideCar a shot ($ 10 off coupon also may have influenced my decision). I submitted my pick-​up request very easily through the iPhone app, and we had a car in less than 5 minutes. Our driver was really funny, and offered us bottled water when he dropped us off. The price would have been $ 17 from the CD to G-​town without the coupon, going through Beacon Hill instead of taking the 5. That seemed like a totally reasonable price to me — probably cheaper than taking a traditional cab (and definitely more fun).
Worth mentioning: we used Lyft to get home (also thanks to a $ 10 coupon) and it was $ 3 cheaper between the exact same addresses. The Lyft driver used the 5, so maybe that was the difference. Initially, I was going to give 4 stars instead of 5 because of that, but bumped it back up to 5, because I prefer the SideCar app to the Lyft app for these reasons:
— The SideCar app does not require you to sign in using Facebook (Lyft does).
— The SideCar app shows you what YOUR rating is. You rate the drivers, but the drivers also rate you as a passenger. The drivers use this to decide whether you’re worth picking up. Lyft uses the same system, but I can’t see my own rating.
— The SideCar app shows my ride history, including names and photos of drivers used, along with pick up and drop off locations. Lyft’s app does not offer this feature (yet).
— When you enter your ride request in the SideCar app, it lets you know how much the suggested donation will be before confirming your request and sending a car. Lyft just sent the car, and I didn’t know how much it would cost until I was dropped off.

I’ve used SideCar twice when I’m going out for the night and don’t want to drive, or deal with taking multiple buses by myself. Both times went perfectly. The drivers give you a call to let you know they’re on their way and how long it will take, but you can look at that info on your app as well. You can also see an estimated cost, which is technically a donation, for the trip you’re about to take, and you give them more or less at the end of the ride.
The drivers were really easy-​going, and you can get in the front seat and have a friendly chat on your way. Pay the driver on your phone after you get out so no need to deal with getting your wallet out. I’m a big fan, no more taxis for me.

Options! We have so many other options than taxi cabs here in Seattle. Aces, Über, and now Sidecar.
The idea is that folks who are already out driving can pick you up and take you to your destination. In practice it works a lot more like Über –these guys get paid hourly wages without the snazzy black towncar to scoot you about town. Still! Super easy app to use, way cheaper than Über on the weekends, and more convenient than a cab.
The system isn’t perfect — i’ve had numerous drivers cancel on me resulting in trying again (and again) and having to wait longer and make me almost want to suck it up and pay more money for Über. When the rides DO come the drivers are friendly and i’ve never had any complaints once I get moving.
When it comes to getting back home — I have a plethora of options literally at my fingertips. Sidecar makes it just as easy as other services, and for a couple bucks less.

What a fantastic service!
We used this for the first time last weekend at the Nerdy Dancing event in Capitol Hill. SideCar was one of the sponsors for that event, therefore rides to/​from were free! I had no idea what SideCar was at the time but I couldn’t pass up the free ride into Capitol Hill. I downloaded the app, and was blown away!
The app is very intuitive/​easy to use. The updates that you’re provided with for how long it will take for your ride to show up, who your driver will be, what car they’re driving was all very impressive. Everything is based on a donation system as well which keeps things fair. Also, you don’t need cash! Everything is done via credit card info that you provide and the fare is sent directly to the driver’s account.
HIGHLY recommend this service if you’re in the Seattle area and are looking to get to a bars on the weekend, or really anywhere and don’t want to cab/​bus it. (or drive yourself and deal with parking!)

I used Sidecar for the first time last night. It’s basically like asking your friend to give you a ride somewhere with his personal car, and then giving him some cash for gas.
The app interface is super easy to use: you input your current location and your destination, and then it will tell you the suggested donation. Once you accept, it will give you a heads up on who your driver will be (and what car to be on the lookout for), and approximately how long it will take for him to arrive.
My driver called me about 90 seconds after I requested a ride on the app, to confirm my location, ask if it was a house or apartment, ask how many people would be riding, and let me know that he would call me when he arrived.
About 12 minutes later, he showed up right on schedule for when the app said he would. I rode in the front because it seemed weird to ride in the back and treat him like a driver. He was super nice, and a good driver too. The car was clean. We chatted and he told me about the background check process for good drivers, how there have been way more applications for drivers in Seattle than there are spaces so a lot of people actually got rejected, and how Sidecar started as a ride-​sharing service in the Bay Area for people commuting to work, but that they haven’t had success with people using it as a rideshare here in Seattle so it’s mostly just guys with cars who drive people around taxi-​style for extra cash. The Seattle market doesn’t even currently have the ability to do multiple rides simultaneously, so your driver won’t be picking up anybody else on the way to your destination, but they might add that capability later.
The suggested donation for Fremont to Capitol Hill was $ 16, and the entire experience was super pleasant.

I can’t stop raving about Side Car, it’s just the coolest service! Kind of a combo between taxi, town car, & having a friend drive you. Most of the drivers I’ve met seem to be young & hip. Interesting conversations!
You can either choose the closest driver or pick which one you want. The app gives you an estimated donation amount, so you know approximately how much you’ll be spending. No need to rifle through your wallet looking for the right change, no money changes hands (at least not physically).
I also loved that I could text my friends with a link to track my ride. They could get an ETA, see my drivers photo, and see their car. Fabulous feature!

I used SideCar for the first time tonight and it was pretty freakin easy! The app is very comparable to Über, but the concept is different.
With Über, a black SUV or town car picks you up with a driver, and it is fairly expensive. With Sidecar, anyone can be a driver! They drive their own personal cars. The recommended donation amount is about half of what Über charges you, so the pricing seems pretty good. I used it on my way to and from my destination, both drivers were great. Seems like a pretty good deal — we’ll definitely use again!

I used this for the first time near the beginning of December. I was surprised how easy it was, and I LOVE that there’s no cash handling. My driver picked me up at my office downtown and I gave him directions (and some navigational help) to my apartment in Ballard. I sat in the front because the whole thing didn’t really feel like a cab ride, it felt like a friend of a friend was giving me a ride. I’ve had drivers Maurice and Brent so far. It’s pretty cool because you can see your trip history, fares paid, driver profiles etc, AND the drivers can reciprocolly rate you back, so it keeps the jerks out of the mix. 5 stars and will be a regular user.
