This place may have ruined for all future sushi places! I feel like I’ve been fooled all my life prior to visiting this place. This place is not your typical Benihana. They specialize in nigiri(piece of fish on top of rice). They have some common rolls but you won’t find your«fire cracker, Texas roll, butterfly, etc» rolls like you would in trendier sushi places. This is your straight up-authentic-Japanese style sushi. Don’t expect a hibachi grill, ramen or other things you usually find in an American-Japanese restaurant. But trust me, you won’t feel any loss once you’ve tried the fish. Shiros serves only the freshest fish. The fish melts in your mouth and never reminds you it came from the sea. If you are apprehensive about bad fish, rest assured coming here. The restaurant gets shipment from Japan three times a week. They often have varying specials depending on the catch. We tried most of the specials of the day. They were all so yummy that we added a few more orders! The seating host even came by and asked what we liked best. Then he disappeared to the back and came back with a sample of his favorite. It’s not the biggest place, but it’s full. If you go, call in advance and make a reservation. The staff are knowledgeable in addition to being courteous. This is one of the most authentic Japanese sushi places I’ve ever been to – outside Japan of course! I often think about Shiros and wish I could just fly back and eat there.

I think this place has slightly ruined sushi in the Bay Area for us, because it was so good. You can tell immediately the difference in quality of fish. While on our visit to Seattle, my group and I decided to stop by Shiro’s. We had high expectations due to reviews and of course Jiro’s. Although we were worried that our expectations wouldn’t be reached. However, it was not and we had a great time. Two out of my group ordered the premium sushi of 17 pieces. While my other friend and I ordered tuna five ways and a crab roll. All the the fish just melted. Our waiter would explain to us which fish was which and recommended which order was best to eat the fish. I highly recommend this place for people who are serious about sushi in nigiri and sashimi form because that’s how the fish should be served at this location. Also be ready to spend da funds, but it’s worth it.

I’m no sushi expert but I could definitely appreciate fresh and quality fish! I’m so glad I got to dine at Shiro’s during my trip to Seattle. :) Me and my cousin did omakase at the sushi bar. We arrived around 4:40-ish on a Sunday to get the first seating. FYI, they don’t do reservations at the bar. Your sushi chef asks you about any preferences and allergies before he makes it rain with sushi, which is nice because my cousin is really sensitive to wasabi. However, our chef seemed to forget this at times and would accidentally give me the sushi without wasabi. Haha we corrected him the first time it happened, but after a while we just switched our cuts because we were too busy trying to enjoy our meal. =p I couldn’t help but say«mmm» and smile after every round of sushi. My favorite was definitely everything tuna we received. Each cut was so fresh and melt in your mouth perfect. I’m salivating just thinking about that meal but hopefully the pictures with this review will just speak for itself!

We got here around 7pm on a Monday and luckily was seated within 10 minutes. Toro daikon Akamutsu Uni Salmon Bluefin tuna sampler Medium Fatty Tuna hand roll with pickled Daikon Our server was really good, he actually suggested most of the items that we tried and got us the hand rolls(which weren’t on the menu). Our favorite of the night was the medium fatty tuna(chutoro). My wife liked the marinated one while I liked the non-marinated. It melted on our tongues immediately. In contrast, the fatty tuna it felt like you chewed on it a bit until it started to melt. Everything was just super fresh and delicious. I want to eat sushi this was ALLTHETIME but I don’t think I could handle the cost!

A popular sushi place in Seattle no doubt. We had reservations for 3 at 8pm on a Tuesday night so we walked right in and got straight to business. Plain and simple, we loved it. We started off with some oysters which were fresh and flavorful. Each of us went with the Premium Deluxe Omakase which comes with 17 pieces of fresh fresh fresh and flavorful pieces of fish. We have anything from different salmons and tunas all ranging from different levels of fat. We had halibut, bass, sweet shrimp, ro, fried shrimp heads, and their famous egg sushi. Man, everything was delightful. Melt in your mouth delightful. Such a wonderful experience.

After getting a few recommendations to come here I stopped by right before my flight back to New York. I must say this was a very good omakase. The rice was well done and the fish was very tasty. They smoked a piece of silver fish and though I don’t usually like that, it really changed the fish. One thing that took the meal up a notch for me was the soup and the salmon. Now I normally don’t like too much salmon on my omakase but the way they treated the fish made it something special. The pacing of the meal was also really good. All in all I would come here again and again if I lived in Seattle.

One of my favorite omokase sushi experiences ever since our chef was friendly/talkative but more importantly the presentations are tastes were all there. My friend and I got in line about 45 minutes before opening so we could for sure get first seating at the sushi bar. We didn’t hesitate to order a bottle of sake and the omokase. Everything was amazing and hit the spot. I’m not the biggest sushi snob, but I think I can confidently say that this is one of the best sushi places in the US. Be sure to make a reservation or get in line before opening like we did.

If you’re unable to travel to Sukiyabashi Jiro in Tokyo, then consider visiting Shiro’s in Seattle, a restaurant formerly owned and operated by one of the famed sushi chef’s disciples.(Shiro Kashiba is no longer affiliated with the restaurant even as the restaurant maintains its former name and touts its former owner’s ties to Jiro Ono of «Jiro Dreams of Sushi» fame.) That, however, doesn’t meant the restaurant has lost its luster, as the sushi served here is some of the best I’ve had on this side of the Pacific. Since reservations aren’t accepted for the 11-seat sushi bar, I would recommend coming before the restaurant opens, as you’ll only be able to order the omakase if seated at the counter. My friend and I arrived at 5:00PM on Monday night and were the second party in line, ensuring we were seated immediately. If you miss the first seating, you should definitely check with the restaurant before departing, but can expect slots to open up after an hour or so. Unless you tell the chef otherwise, the omakase is technically endless. Only after we had had ~13−15 courses did the chef ask whether we were still hungry. Of the sushi, the following items were highlights: tuna four ways; salmon three ways; the anago(saltwater eel) and unagi(freshwater eel); the albacore; the scallop; and the amaebi(sweet shrimp). Although nothing was particularly disappointing, I personally didn’t care for the locally sourced uni or the geoduck. While the seasonal matsutake(pine mushroom) soup is a must, be aware that the high cost of matsutake(~$ 45 per pound) is reflected in the cost of the soup — the single most expensive item on our bill. The total price for this sushi extravaganza was approximately $ 160 per person including tax and tip. Staff was super attentive, intuitively bringing glasses of water once we had finished our beer. When someone stood up to use the restroom, they refolded that person’s napkin and placed it on their chair. Our sushi chef was friendly and talkative, but never intruded upon our conversations unless prompted. Sushi connoisseurs and foodies should be sure to check out Shiro’s if they’re in the Seattle area, as few meals are as indulgent as the one you’ll have here! Lesser quality sushi will never taste the same!

Freshest ingredients, cheery chefs, amazing flavors! We waited outside the door before they opened. It was a good decision, because the place is not big and line started forming before 5pm. We were 3rd in line and got a seat right away. Hubby got omakase, I ordered a la carte. It was one of the best sushi restaurant I’ve ever been to!

What an amazing experience! I have been eyeing this restaurant since before my trip to Seattle! I came here on a Saturday night 20 minutes before opening(group of 4), which wasn’t necessary, but go when they open because when we were done eating, there was a wait. Instead of doing omakase, we ordered a little of everything– salmon, hamachi, fatty toro, amberjack, amaebi(sweet shrimp), uni, tamago, anago, unagi, scallop, spanish mackeral, halibut, etc. Everything was absolutely delicious! They have a menu of regular fish and a special menu for fish of the day. There’s a type of salmon nigiri where they put white onions on top and ponzu sauce, it’s not on the menu but worth a try if you like a little flavor! Our favorite nigiri of the night was the scallop, which we weren’t expecting at all. The scallop is fresh, huge, and it just melts in your mouth! We had to order more of this. We also ordered the hamachi kama and a spider roll. I was very disappointed when they told me they didn’t have salmon skin. Their spider roll($ 13) is NOT worth it. It was tiny, had no sauce, and was not crunchy. Their hamachi kama is average, and they don’t give it to you with ponzu sauce so make sure to ask the servers! After we left, we remembered that we never got our deep fried amaebi heads! I’m not sure if we had to ask for it, but I was upset that they didn’t bring it for us. Besides that, the service is outstanding and we had an amazing dinner there. Thanks Shiro! We’ll be back!

I’m usually a «fake» sushi person, in that I prefer rolls with all sorts of extra stuff. This isn’t a place like that, but instead a more traditional«sushi» place that consists of fish and rice(nigiri). The good thing: the fish is out of the this word. Every type of fish. We ordered the sushi sampler and tuna tasting, and every piece was better than the one before it. It was all full of flavor and melted in your mouth. The ambience was a little blah, but the service was solid and the food was so good that it didn’t matter.

This was my first sushi bar omakase dinner and it was quite a lot of fun. The good news is that there wasn’t much of a wait, even though we were walk-in people, so I would say that me & my dining partners got lucky. we were seated at the sushi bar and it was great! The space is pretty intimate and conversation is kept at a pretty quiet buzz. I would say that if you’re coming here solo, it’s not a bad place to be doing that here, since you’d have a greater chance to chat with the 3 – 4 sushi masters at the bar. Price point, well, it’s expensive; but I would say for the experience is well worth it. Now the sushi, itself, was picture perfect. I was pretty green with envy as I watched the husband get a pretty great variety of uni, salmon, crab, shrimp, eel, mackarel, etc. But as I was 6 months pregnant at the time, I did stick to the cooked stuff, which was pretty good as well. I did enjoy eating the gindara(miso black cod) along with the other stuff I ordered. However, I will admit that the king crab and tamago sushi was pretty good. The service was friendly and I was pretty happy with the experience here and it was a great way to wrap out my trip to Seattle.

Jiro had a dream, and Shiro brought it to Seattle! This review is for omakase at the bar. I haven’t been to Jiro’s sushi, but have had good sushi in Japan and LA… FOS(fresh out of the sea) taste– 5-star-check! Appropriately larger proportion of fish than the well-made sushi rice it’s on– check! Chef’s knowledge and skills of prepping the ingredients– check!(There were one or 2 pieces I thought may have been a little salty, and one piece with fish bone… but overall, the experience was still great) Hot green tea always hot and refilled– check and check! If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese sushi experience, this is the place to go! Quick tip: if you have a smaller group(less than 3), it seems that the bar area has a pretty quick turnover for walk-ins!

Sushigasm alert! I went to Shiro’s by myself, and I sat at the bar. I should preface this by saying I enjoy sushi but my knowledge on the topic is limited. That being said, I was so pleased with how helpful the sushi chefs and waiters were– no pretension at all. I opted for omasake. For those of you who don’t know what hat is, essentially there is a sushi chef who personally makes you pieces of sushi/sashimi/nigri, one or two at a time. The chef assigned to me taught me about the fish and explained how to best enjoy it, as well as helping me establish likes and dislikes. 5 stars!

It’s been like a week since I’ve been here and I still dream about the sushi here. The quality of the fish here is so good it just melts in your mouth like warm butter. My friend and I came here on a «slow» night but the wait for the bar was still 40 minutes long. When were finally seated we ordered the omakase and the seasonal soup. All the fishes were extremely fresh and flavorful. I don’t think we had to use soysauce at all. The chef was incredibly knowledgeable and told us how their tuna was aged and cut. My favorite pieces were the medium fatty tuna, salmon in ponzu sauce, and one other fish that wasn’t so common(forgot the name). Overall it was definitely worth the wait and price. I can’t wait to go back.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and we had an amazing omakase experience. We got here an hour before they opened on a Saturday night(4:30pm) because we wanted to be sure we could sit at the bar. By 5pm, there was already a line that could fill up the entire bar. At 5:30pm sharp, they opened the doors, we were promptly seated, and our drink orders were taken. The quality of the fish here is fantastic and my favorite nigiri was the wild salmon(we asked for another one later: P). My favorite part of the night was when our chef put a LIVE shrimp on our platters and allowed it to move around a little before taking it back and serving the little guy on rice. He also fried the head and served that too, so we got to eat the entire shrimp! The chef that was taking care of us that night(Aaron) was skilled and at the same time, very friendly and chatted with us the entire night. When you get the omakase, they keep serving you until you ask them to stop. My boyfriend and I kept going even when the parties beside us stopped, so. our bill was a taaaad bit higher than average– $ 160 per person. Overall, a great experience and a must-eat in Seattle :)

I was so excited to try this place after watching the documentary of Jiro. Unfortunately the place did not live up to the hype. Appetizer 2 stars — we had the geoduck with mushroom and fried squid tail. The geoduck was very tough and the temperature was inconsistent; some were room temperature and some were warm which made the dish unappealing to the palate. The squid was very tough and greasy. We should have gone straight to the sushi. Sushi –We ordered several nigiri. The uni was soft and silky — better than usual. The fatty tuna was very good! I wish I just ordered this and skipped the rest. The scallop nigiri was also good. I did not like the geoduck, which was very tough. The tamago had a firmer texture than what I expected but was not bad as well. Basically the place was not out-of-this-world good sushi as I hoped it would be. If I just ordered the fatty tuna, my review would have been 5 stars. However, the appetizer dishes I had were bad and the other nigiri were good but not outstanding.

Oh em gee! Chef Machi surely knew how to appease the palate with the finest on that omakase(chef’s choice) set! I especially loved the Uni, Yellowtail Tuna cheek nigiri, Yellowtail Tuna toro and Scallop nigiri. The soup that they served up during the middle dining time, was nice to the palate as well as the egg cake dessert finished at the end when I was superbly stuffed in a fulfilling way. Being able to sit at the counter, you can see Chef Machi making it up freshly on the spot. The rice with a tint of rice vinegar, was complimenting to the nigiri. It was an impeccable omakase meal and a pleasant delight! I left wonderfully satisfied and beyond that point.

Shiro’s, you changed my life! Long story short. I hated raw fish with a passion. It made my tummy feel weird, and it has a weird taste and consistency. I decided to give it a chance at Shiro’s. I am visiting Seattle, after all. Every single piece I had was amazing. The quality of the fish was extremely fresh. I was impressed with the delicate balance of the seasoning, the fish, and the rice. My experience at the sushi bar was phenomenal! You’re basically one-on-one with the sushi chef. Shout out to Eric for taking care of us! We were able to watch Eric at work. He was informative, friendly, and made sure we enjoyed each piece! He tailored our chef’s choose Omakase based on our likes and dislikes. I had fish from alllll over the world(Greece, Japan, etc). My favorites were the salmon belly and salt-water cod. All together, the bill was about $ 220 for my boyfriend and I. WORTH. EVERY. PENNY. **TIP:If you want a spot at the bar, I highly recommend coming at least an hour before opening! I arrived around 4:45 and there were already 4 people in line! ** ** If you ever visit San Francisco, Shiro’s sister restaurant is KUSKABE!**
