Rude. Get there at 3:30, sign in. Ask how long since there a few people waiting, get told 45 minutes. Come back at 4:15. We’re not accepting more customers. But I’m already on the list! To bad. Stylist says gleefully as I walk out, «You just didn’t make it back here in time.» Why couldn’t they tell me there were full before I waited 45 minutes? I think the stylist wanted to do that. She’s the one you read about in the other bad reviews.

If you want a stylist who will care enough to take their time and cut your hair properly, then don’t go here. Got a wash and trim but the stylist vigorously washed my hair, stuck me in a seat, and began cutting away. She didn’t even cut it to the length I wanted but before I could comment I felt like I was being pushed out of my chair so she could take on the next customer. Paid WAY too much for a hurried cut. Good if you’re a guy who wants a quick buzz I guess.

I went with my son for him to get a haircut here (I offered to pay and it was a Sunday, he wanted it done right away). But even if you are desperate for a hair cut don’t go to this place. There were to «stylists» but the one he got had half shaved purple hair (didn’t get her name) and it was one of the worst most hurried haircut I have ever seen. She hurried through it, I think so she could eat her lunch, and he felt like she couldn’t wait to finish. Wish I would have said something before I gave a $ 5 tip for a $ 25 haircut. I was mad at myself for not saying anything so don’t frequent this place and tell all your friends. He had really thick hair and a lot to work with but not until the mess grows out.

I came by today for a bleach and tone for my chin length blonde hair — I saw Steven and knew I had met my blonde hair soul-​mate! He made my roots disappear, was efficient and edgy in his cut. Thank you Steven!!! You ROCK!

Maggie is a genius.
I have crazy, unruly, curly hair that listens to no one. I also have a slight bald spot that gets accentuated every time I get a haircut. So I walk in on a lazy Saturday afternoon, and there’s no one waiting. Fifteen minutes later I walk out with the best haircut I have had in three years. Maggie was super sweet and I kid you not, she made my bald spot completely disappear. Coming back here for sure. Highly recommended.

A style cut usually costs $ 25 here. During happy hour, you can get it for $ 20. Time to pound.
I didn’t get a cheap drink but my hairstylist looked like the type to get cheap drinks.
He had wonder woman glasses. I said I wanted hair shorter than I usually get, showed him a picture, and he checked in wit me throughout the haircut if I wanted it shorter. Das someone who cares.
Also, his beard was cool.
Seemed a cut above what you’d expect out of a $ 20 haircut. Dude was precise and showed off his technique. Cool shit.

This shop is pretty good.
I came in and I had a general idea of what I wanted, and the barber was able to deliver. The barber was extremely helpful leading to the best cut for my style. He also took his time to buzz the sides of my hair.

I have been in here a few times over the past couple of months for neck trims and went in recently to have someone hopefully fix the overpriced and terrible cut I received at Lucky 7.
Steven fixed me up in no time! I will definitely be going here for my next cut and color.

Shear Madness, as you guessed it, was sheer madness for me. I had the worst hair cut of my life by an inexperienced hairdresser here. I asked for a cut that would create volumn and the gentleman moved my layers up, which was great, but then he took his scissors and cut vertically against my hair. I believe the look he was going for was «A rat ate through my hair». I’ve seen other hair dressers use this techinque in the past but very conservatively. This gentleman did this for a while and I ended up with split ends and choppy hair. The more he tried to fix it the worse it got and I ended up with choppy long bangs. Awesome. The store manager came by to fix it and when she was done, it looked fabulous. If you are low maintenance, go for it. If you only get a hair cut once in a while, know your hairdresser before walking in.

Holly did a great job on my hair! I would definitely go to her again. The staff was friendly, the salon was nice and clean, and they have wifi for guests.

Not bad, but I felt that my hairdresser could’ve been a bit more engaged, with more of a vision. But my session was quick without being too brief and Annelise definitely cut within the rough parameters I set.

Loved this place since I moved to the UDistrict for college. I always got my hair done by Heidi, she is probably the best hairstylist I’ve had. She doesn’t work there anymore unfortunately. Anyone know where she went?

The first time I walked into Shear Madness, I had decided to cut off all my long hair into an asymmetrical bob. Needless to say, I was pretty nervous about it, but I saw the reviews about people with Asian hair liking it here and decided to give it a shot (I’m half Asian, with the texture and thickness of that side of the family).
I did a walk-​in, and was very pleased with the results. I had shown my hairstylist, Peter, pictures of what I wanted, and he knew exactly what to do. As he went along, he asked me if I’d like it shorter, etc, on one side or the other, making sure I was happy with what I got.
After the cut, I immediately received a lot of compliments from friends. Some of my Asian friends even asked me where I had gone for my haircut – they were very impressed with how Peter dealt with my hair.
I highly recommend Shear Madness (and Peter) for those with Asian hair-​types. Don’t expect some high-​end hair salon, because this isn’t that place. You’re going to get a good cut for your money, and a nice, casual environment. And remember, talk to your stylist so they know what you want!

I was skeptical when I first walked in because I’ve never really gotten a hair cut anywhere else but the guy who cut my hair did a great job! He did exactly what I asked him to do. The only thing was that it was kind of awkward since we didn’t talk much.

This is my second time having hair cut in American salon and it feels great. I am Asian with thin hair. I have heard many people said that many stylists can’t manage Asian hair. However, Peter surprises me! I think this is the best hair cut I ever have since I come to US. Peter works very fast. I have my long hair to short hair in less than 30 mins. It looks simple but stylish. The price is also good, too. I will definitely come back later.

I have been going here for the last couple of years. Rachel is a gem. She does a wonderful job on my cut and color. After breaking my ankle, she even moved a dryer so I didn’t have to move from the chair. The pricing is very affordable and it is rare that I can’t get in to see her quickly. You can’t go wrong by going to Shear Madness!

I started getting my haircuts here about a year ago, after Rudy’s raised their prices one too many times. I’m usually very happy with the haircut I get here, but the service and quality aren’t consistent: some of the stylists can be a little sloppy or inattentive.
Unfortunately, Shear Madness has followed in step with Rudy’s extreme rate of inflation and I don’t think the occasionally mediocre haircuts are worth 2−3x the price I’d pay a Supercuts-​type place.

I usually go to straight up barber shops, but I was looking for something a little more. This was the perfect mix of barber and salon. I will definitely go back as long as I live around here.
Price was also good too.
