Seattle Trading Post

In my mind this is the most wonderful junkshop on Capitol HIll. The prices are great ($ 6 for real wooden cigar boxes? — AMAZING!) and the stuff there is eclectic and varied.
It’s easy to miss the back rooms — you should at least give them a look through — there are fun things in all corners of this place.
The guy that owns the place will talk your ear off if you give him the chance — He’s full of interesting stories about all the different odds and ends that take up residence at his shop.
The only problem is their hours — he says its from 1pm to 6pm every day, but in reality it’s from whenever to whenever each day, assuming it is indeed open. There have been a couple times I was really hoping to pick up something I knew he’d have, but he was closed :(

Super interesting little shop with lots of knick knacks. I could probably spend my whole paycheck in there if given the time to sort through it all. Instead, I focused on the bikes. They usually have a lot of road bikes but they tend to be mens (straight bar). I managed to snatch up the only womens bike they had. Jeff, the owner, was really thourough while I was checking it out, he even offered to switch out a tube from another bike and pump it up so I could give it a ride before I bought it. having already checked the brakes, gears, and height I was already satisfied though. for $ 99 (plus tax) I am now the owner of a beautiful purple/​blue japanese road bike.

I just moved to Seattle from Detroit sans a car, and I live on the Hill. Also, I just got back from two years in the Peace Corps, which means I hit Seattle pavement owning nothing and needing to outfit an apartment stat while not sinking my entire net worth into furniture.
This place is awesome.
It’s kind of a step above Value Village and Salvation army in price, but it has higher quality wares and the owner, Jeff, is super friendly and helpful. He let me borrow a dolly to drag my dresser back home with and also helped me find a place to buy new knobs for it. The wooden dresser, by the way, he was selling for twenty. This is a deal of deals.
The only somewhat negatives I could say about the place is that it can be kind of a pain to navigate. It’s a small store but it is packed with goodies — which is great if you have the time and inclination to dig through it, but not so great if you’re trying to get in and out fast. If you’re looking for something specific, it’s generally best to ask Jeff. He’ll be able to hone you in on what you want.
Also, this is a place that’s best for electronics, knick knacks, kitchenwares and «hard» furniture like lamps and tables and wooden chairs. It won’t have plush furniture or clothes — for those, you’ll need to hit up Value Village.

I like the Trading Post!
It’s clean, organized, doesn’t stink, and has a decent selection of household and kitchen items and the prices are definitely fair. The items seem to have a quick turnover, so there’s always different stuff when I go. Plus, I’ve always been able to park right in front.

Super cute shop! My boyfriend is always looking to add little trinkets to his shelves (and lack thereof) and the Trading Post is like a heaven to him. Tons of cute little hand carved wooden boxes, candle holders, figurines, lamps, plates, dishware, all kinds of things!
They even have two mannequins. I know I don’t need one… but I want one! Heck, I might want both! They even had a treadmill, some furniture, bikes, TONS of bike helmets… it’s pretty much an everything store. You can’t pop in for just a second, you’ll get stuck wanting to look at each and every item.

I LOVE this place. I’ve been shopping here for a while, usually during an afternoon weekend stroll. I’ve purchased some wonderful items including today! A huge wall size landscape of old school lakeview. Thank you Jeff for finding some gems!

I think coming here when I actually needed stuff changed my opinion of Seattle Trading Post. I am moving soon and so was keyed into so many different things. They have a lot of kitchenwares and utensils, even things like cheese graters and measuring glasses. I found a really nice microwave here for a third of it’s price new. One of the cheaper quality microwaves out there today would have cost the same new. I found some great chairs, there are a lot of lamps, desks, tables… everything. I think that if you are in need of something and don’t feel like driving to Kent or Everett to get the best deal from Craigslist, you’ll find something you need here and you’ll be pretty happy with the price and quality.

I found some amazing things here. Jeff is so nice! It seems like he turns over his inventory as he can get to things (when I was in there he was repairing a batch of lamps) which means its necessary to keep checking back but he really cares about what he is selling. If you find something, snatch it up right away. I came back the day after seeing two little end tables and ten hours later, they were gone.
It is kind of a pain to navigate right now with the construction but just go to Pike and walk north up the east side of the street. Or if you are coming from North capitol hill, walk up to 13^th and go down Pike. Commuters, your best bet is to park West of 12^th, near the park.
(I recently figured out how to use directions and I am excited about it.)

Yes, yes, yes! I have gotten some amazing furniture here. The owner is very nice and also pretty chatty and pleasant. He was kind enough to hold my desk and vanity set after I bought it until I could have someone with a truck pick it up for me.
There are all sorts of great treasures and the prices are affordable!
It is also conveniently located on 12^th.
It has expanded a lot since I first went here, and has turned out very nice.

Oh MAN!!! Seattle Trading post is one of my favorite spots to find exciting treasures! It’s among the best second hand stores on the hill, in my opinion. Jeff is the proprietor of the Trading Post and he has a keen eye for unique things. He even knows that I collect airline glassware, so when he gets a piece, he either calls me or alerts my friend to tell me to stop in for a look-​see. I always find something I can’t pass up when I’m in there, and his prices are very reasonable. He’s got everything from A to Z in that place, and old fashioned friendly conversation is always plentiful and free!

I went in today with absolutely no thought to purchase anything (recession? anyone?). Lo and behold, 6.95 for a super cute Sunbeam clock that is guaranteed to work (thanks jeff) and 40 for a old school mixer? that works! I won’t tell him but I would have easily bought it off of ebay for much more than that.
sweeet. now I’m ready for that chef+maid+foldsmylaundry-man to make my kitchen and home complete.

I agree with everything these guys said! Love it, if they served beer here it’d be 5 stars without a doubt. That said, ask for Jeff — tall bald dude — he’s the man.

If you’re a bargain-​hunting type person, this is one of those places that needs to be on your thrift store circuit. The owner has a thirst for deals and will drag some pretty unique items in to sell. He has a keen eye for antiques old and new and is a real straight-​shooter. Stop by this place regularly and you’re guaranteed to see new stuff show up. The stereo equipment, and the odd items are sometimes overpriced, but other than that Seattle Trading Post just plain rocks.

Walking around the Hill window shopping? You have to pop in here! This is a treasure chest of old/​estate/​antique goodies on Capitol Hill! Everything from housewares to jewelry and even smaller pieces of furniture at garage sale prices! Some stuff is kind of kitschy but there were some definite gems. How excited was I to find some glass stopper decanters that will add some authenticity to my husband’s growing Scotch collection? Oh yeah — $ 4 each. And the funky, oak table lamps with mint condition shades I bought will look like they cost hundreds more after I paint them a glossy robin’s egg blue. $ 20 each. Lots of hobnail candle holders and dishes, old glass bottles, slightly tacky end tables that could be really cool with your creative touch. And everything was really affordable. Not like some of those «antique» stores that really don’t have anything even close to being genuine antique but are priced as such. Even if you aren’t looking for something particular (like me) you’ll probably find something you have to have, for the mere fact that is under five bucks!
The owner told me that he gets new inventory daily so Seattle Trading Post will definitely be on my list to check back.
