Seattle Marriott Waterfront

I was overcharged for my room and received a very poor response by the hotel staff in doing anything to help fix it.
After calling to discuss the charges, I was greeted with plenty of attitude insisting I was wrong and that it «…was impossible» that the rate I was offered by the front desk could be correct.
I was promised a call back by the hotel manager and never received one, and am still dealing with the issue, trying to fix it.
Although a great location, I was blown away by the stubbornness these folks expressed over their mistake. I had a much better experience at the Courtyard Marriot in the international district.

I reluctantly stayed here with a friend for a family memorial. It was not my choice at all. I had to call the facility to ask about parking, as I was driving from another city and had read about the exorbitant parking rates – they truly are, especially after adding on all the taxes and fees.
Now my cell number is apparently in the Marriott data bank and I keep getting robot calls offering me «deals» on another stay. I block the calls immediately, but the next one comes in on a different number. This is outrageous. I’ve sent a protest email to customer service, but suspect the calls will continue.
Judging by the other reviews, there are many reasons to avoid this facility, and this is one more.

The good:
— Location along Alaskan Way is convenient for waterfront sites & Pike Place Market
— Excellent views from Elliot Bay view rooms
— Quiet, clean, comfortable rooms
— Mostly good service
The bad:
— Location on Alaskan Way means major hikes up the hill to most places in Seattle
— Frequent conventions/​events means tons of crowds in public spaces
— Non-​Elliot Bay rooms near BNSF mainline (noisy)
— Expensive valet only parking
The wife and I visited Seattle for the very first time in mid-​October 2015, right after our adventure in Portland, OR the week prior. We decided to stay at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront based upon the recommendations of my fellow Marriott Rewards members/​friends. The suggested, as a Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite, I reach out to the property prior to our travels to put in an early request for a suite upgrade. The manager I spoke with at the time was super friendly and very helpful, going above and beyond what was necessary by even giving us travel and dining advice for the area!
When we arrived, we were greeted by an equally friendly and helpful associate. She informed us that they had assigned us a wonderful room, and boy was she right! Our room, 707, was a beautiful suite on the 7^th floor with excellent views of Elliott bay. The room had 1 small balcony outside of the bedroom and a MASSIVE L-​shaped balcony that wrapped around the entire living room. Inside, the living room has a large sofa (that turns into a bed), large HDTV, a work desk with chair, a fridge (under the TV), and a closet with the safe and ironing equipment.
Through a set of double doors was the bedroom. The bedroom had yet another closet, a king bed with two nightstands, a dresser, a lounging chair, and a HDTV. Connecting to the bedroom was a massive bathroom with dual vanities, a separate water closet, and (the only disappointment) a shower/​tub combo.
Being in a suite and a Platinum Elite, we had access to the property’s concierge lounge. We stopped by for water a couple of times, but never really ate there thanks to all of the excellent food nearby the property. There’s also fitness facilities, a pool, and a nice looking restaurant, but we missed them as well thanks to always being out.
Now, the biggest point of contention with the property is it’s parking. Valet only isn’t ideal, but geez, they charge $ 46/​night at the time we stayed. And without a good alternative nearby, you’re pretty much stuck. Then again, if you don’t plan on traveling far from the property, it would be cheaper to just Über everywhere. Us? We needed the car for a day trip to Canada and to get up to Everett. Oh, and do as they say and call down for your car 10 – 20 minutes before you need it. This wasn’t an issue for us since we always remembered to call, so the car was almost always waiting for us.
Another thing you may want to consider is the location. The property is on Alaskan Way, making it super convenient for the Aquarium, Wharf, and even Pike Place Market. BUT, Pike Place Market is up the hill, even if you take the public elevator up the hill, it’s still a small hike the rest of the way. Everything is even farther up the hill, so if someone in your travel party has difficulties walking, plan on driving or stay somewhere further up. The property is also located next to BNSF’s mainline through Seattle, so you can hear the train roaring by. It wasn’t a bother for us and barely audible in our room, but I can’t imagine the poor people that got rooms actually facing the rail line…
All-​in-​all, though, the Seattle Marriott Waterfront is a good hotel and one I’d return to. Just be aware of a few key considerations when booking!

It all started by them not having our rooms we reserved over 3 months prior, then had to wait till 5 while they cleaned the alternate rooms, which were not an up grade but a down grade. They ran out of all food items on the late night menu, so we waited for cold and lack luster breakfast. Paid $ 45 for valet parking, even though we stayed in the hotel. The next day had to wait 40 min for the car. No coffee in the lobby, waited in line for another 15 min just to hand them the cards to check out. None of the video games were on in the game room. The only reason they got 1 start is due to the view and comfortable bedding… oh and you have to pay for the internet.

Stayed here recently for a long weekend and to get my city fix. We are long-​time Marriott users, time-​share, work the point system, etc. for vacation. We’d stayed at this property before and been very happy.
So the bad news: $ 56 a night for parking. Yes, you read that right. It costs less than that to park at the InterContinental in San Francisco. There are no other parking options, unless you find some other well-​offsite facility and schlep all your stuff in.
The hotel is located by the cruise terminal. It has very nice rooms, a good restaurant on-​site, smiling bar tenders, a great staff and is pretty much everything one could want with rooms facing Alaskan Way.
Unless you use points to get in, you will pay dearly for that waterfront view. I can understand the premium one pays for that location and level of hotel. But there’s something about that «captive audience» mentality about the parking that just ticks me off, seriously.

If you don’t choose the Four Seasons Resort for some reason which is a couple of blocks away, I suggest this Marriott. The location is amazing — waterfront hotel which is a walking distance to the Pike Place Market, quay, ferries and all Seattle’s major sights.
Typical Marriott’s standard size rooms, I suggest water view. Good cozy mattress. Mini fridge. Coffee/​tea maker. Ice machine and vending on each floor. Bar and café on the lobby level. Breakfast is not included, but you can enjoy it a la carte at their restaurant.
Fitness center is typical of Marriott — few cardio machines, weights. They have even a small indoor/​outdoor pool there. It’s partly indoor and partly outdoor.
Valet parking will cost you, but it’s a big city and is much easier than self-​parking I suppose.
If you’re looking for a great location, good service and not want to overpay for staying at the Four Seasons — this is the place.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to be close to Pike Market Place and a waterfront view.

If you’re paying several hundred dollars a night, the least they could do is spot you a bottle of water. But no, open the bottle left in your room and it’s $ 3.50. Coupled with the scenic view of the train tracks on which a train rolls through every hour and the total mediocrity of the room itself and you’re far better staying somewhere else for the price. The only reason it gets two stars instead of one is the staff were quite nice.

Great hotel with a great view! Now I have been reading some of the other reviews about loud train noises and bad views, but I want to clear out those rumors! For example, every hotel is equipped with a triple layer of glass, making even the slightest sounds undetectable. Next, every room has a view of either the boardwalk, bay, and the pike place market area. This hotel is amazing! Once we got settled in, an engineer noticed that our phone was broken, so they fixed it within minutes! Points to Marriott!

We were booked here for a work event. Though the weekend coincided with our honeymoon trip to Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.
Upon checking in we let them know in not only did they upgrade our room to a water view, but they had a bottle of red wine and several cheeses in our room once we got there. Amazing!
This is one of the reasons why I love Marriott. The service is so great, even though I’m only the lowest membership level.
My only critique is the Decore. It seems like it’s been a while since the rooms were updated. Though they are still very clean and comfortable.

My wife and I booked for 10 days and didn’t get what we were expecting. Shower was weak and floor was slippery. Overall everything was ok.

I recently stayed here for a conference and had a pretty good experience. I travel a lot for work and always stay with Marriott, so my options were pretty limited. Even so, this was a no brainer since it’s located across the street from the conference center. The location is absolutely perfect. It’s right on Alaskan Way, which runs along the water, and is walking distance to basically everything (as long as you don’t mind hills).
The check-​in process was quick and easy, which is expected but can be a nightmare if it’s anything different. The lobby is large and extends to the bar, which is on the same level as the lobby but at the south end of the building.
The hotel itself is fine, it’s a pretty standard Marriott. I believe they had 4 elevators for 8 floors, which is actually a really nice ratio. My room was on the 3^rd floor and was upgraded to a corner suite with two patios and a bay view. The view was absolutely gorgeous, I could see across the bay and to the south towards both stadiums. The room was fairly standard sized and nothing special, it was slightly larger since it was a corner room, but still not huge by any means. The bathroom was small and featured a tub/​shower combo (ugh) which was squeezed next to the toilet and sink. I thought the walls were thin, considering I could hear everything going on in my neighbors room, and considering I only had one neighbor, I can’t imagine what it’s like being between two rooms.
The hotel offers a concierge lounge on the 8^th floor for gold and platinum members, which I am, so I took advantage. They had daily breakfast up there, as well as snacks and drinks. They charged for alcohol, which I found a little strange. I wish more Marriott’s would offer a concierge lounge for their loyal members, it’s a nice little perk to have. However, I think all drinks should be included.
I’m not exactly sure what I paid per night, but I believe it was around $ 300. I think it’s a little over priced for the amenities, but considering there was a major conference in town, I guess it’s to be expected.
Overall this hotel gets the job done. It’s not the best Marriott I’ve stayed in by any means, nor do they offer the nicest amenities. But, being a very loyal Marriott member, I’d say this hotel is just fine. The location is terrific and it’s about a 20−45min ride to the airport, depending what time you’re coming/​going.

They most definitely spent more time and money on the lobby than they did the rooms. This hotel does not offer a two queen room, they offer full size beds. And if you’re sharing a bed with someone you don’t want to spoon with, the size is not ideal. I also paid the upgrade price for a «bay view» but ended up with half bay, half hotel view because of the hotel being shaped like a U. Will not stay here again for the price I paid.
The only good part about the hotel was the walking distance to Pike Place.

Convenient location to everything we wanted to see in Seattle with a wonderful view of the water. On the waterfront walkway (Alaskan Way), you can get to the aquarium and Ferris wheel on one side and Olympic Sculpture Park on the other. If you turn right at the OSP, it will take you to Seattle Center (Space Needle). The front desk told us to take an elevator at Lenore Street which made getting to Pike Place is a cinch too. We also enjoyed a great breakfast buffet at the restaurant in the lobby: Hook & Plow.

First off… Location, location, location! Then there are the other pros…

Overall solid four stars. Not over the top with luxury but a perfect location for a quick weekend stay. Walking distance to everything. We would stay again.

You really can’t beat the location of this hotel. It’s right on the waterfront, thus its name, and you just take some stairs or elevator up, walk a couple blocks, and you’re at Pike Place.
The lobby is really clean, big, and nice, and they offer plenty of comfy seating with outlets. We upgraded to a water view room, and while the room was clean enough, we could hear every time the person in the room next to us opened and closed their door. The bathroom was also on the small side. The cable in our tv was also spotty, we’d have to turn the tv on and off a few times before it actually started working. These were all little things though. The room was comfy, had a great view, and they gave us free wi-​fi upon check in. Everytime we interacted with the front desk, they were more than friendly and very helpful. We probably won’t stay here again, as there are other hotels that I’d like to try, but we had a great experience here.

Seattle Marriott isn’t necessarily where I would recommend visitors from out of town. One fine summer weekend a friend of mine was married and to ensure safe festivities the wedding party made the Seattle Marriott our home base. The bridal suite would be used for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready in while an adjoining suite would be for the groomsmen and the groom. The rest of us had rooms throughout the floor.
The location is fantastic. Right across from the waterfront a person can be pleased with the ease it is to reach the aquarium, Pike Place Market, the Great Wheel, and other fun waterfront establishments. It is also an extremely popular destination for the cruising crowd as we would quickly find out. The lobby is slightly underwhelming. The check in counter is off to the left as a person enters, and there is a small bar straight ahead. The décor is the light beige that much of Seattle seems to be decorated in. There is a nice sparkling ceiling in one section of the lobby, and colorful glass but considering the price and lobby isn’t memorable.
Most of the wedding party had been checked in for a couple days before I arrived, and there had already been problems with the room arrangement. These problems were later resolved through calls to management, and I will not go through them here as they were more the bride’s experience and I was a witness to it. I was impressed with half of the staff. The bellhop was fantastic and very helpful. The people who delivered our room service was equally kind and helpful. The person who first answered the phone regarding room service seemed irritated that I did not have a menu in the room. The person who delivered said menu, though, was courteous and kind.
The room service food was quite delicious. We ordered flat bread pizza while we were getting our hair and make up done. I was quite impressed with the quality of the pizza. It was a bit slow, but they had warned us it would be because they had an influx of cruise passengers that day and the orders were apparently staggering. Since they warned us that there would be a wait we had no problems.
My individual room was located on the other side of the floor away from the rest of the party. It caused little inconvenience, but it would have been nice if they had kept the entire party as close together as possible. The reservations had been made more than a half a year in advance. My room looked out onto the pool and across the way to a land bridge. As I stared down as the pool I could see a band-​aid at the bottom of it. It caused me to pause.
I found the curtains to be insufficient in blocking out the sunlight the next morning. The room also had nothing to buffer it from the outside noises. I do not mind hearing the traffic, or even the passing ships, but I could easily hear the crowds of people gathering on the land bridge that was across the way chatting and kids making seal noises. It made sleeping not as comfortable as I would have anticipated.
The bathroom was fine, if a bit narrow. They offered some perfumed soaps, shampoos, and conditioners for use. They all had a very strong smell.
I think it is an optimum hotel if you are going on a cruise. Checking out the next day was very easy, but leaving was challenging as the lobby was full of people. I wouldn’t recommend staying multiple nights, but perhaps there are quieter rooms that I am not aware of.

This Marriott is one of the few hotels right on the water. Walking distance to the Victoria Clipper, Pike Place Market, and a number of restaurants — the location is great. It’s also nothing that you’d expect — at a mere 8 stories on one part of the hotel, and 6 on the other, it’s a very non-​assuming building. However, it packs a punch. It’s not a cheap hotel by any means — and like most notcheap hotels, they will nickel and dime: parking is costly, wireless internet is costly — though they do have a few computers in the lobby acting as a business center to print boarding passes or other tickets for other attractions. And yes, the computers will clear all your personal information as long as you remember to logout.
Front desk staff, bellmen, and valet staff were all very helpful and friendly. The lobby is ginormous (or at least it feels that way). And depending on the room you get, you really just can’t beat the views — we got one on the 7^th floor. While it wasn’t directly facing the water, we could see the Seattle Wheel, Mount Rainer and the waterfront in that direction. It was a beautiful, amazing view. The room was silent (some rooms have balconies, we did not) — so getting some good shuteye on those comfortable beds came easy.
Would absolutely stay here again if in the Seattle area.

The hotel name wasn’t lying when it says «waterfront.»
First of all, the look/​façade of this hotel does not scream Marriott. In fact, it looks very unique. And I must admit, I love this hotel. It’s expensive but the amenities and location is great. The concierge lounge is closed on weekends, but Gold and Platinum members are given breakfast buffet vouchers at the restaurant in the lobby (Hook & Plow). The vouchers are only for the «cold breakfast or continental breakfast» but for $ 7 more, you can enjoy the full breakfast, which offers omelet, pancakes and waffle stations. This hotel is across from the water and walking distance to the pier so you can enjoy seafood Seattle has to offer. And best part, there’s an elevator/​stairs next to the hotel that will take you to the famous Pike Place. I would gladly stay here again without a doubt.

Lovely hotel in an absolutely terrific location. I burned a few Marriott points and upgraded to a water view room and it was a doozy. Fourth floor with a balcony that faced out to a marina, the harbor, East Seattle and Bainbridge Island. The first day, it was a little overcast but that went away for a spectacular view!
Very short walk to the Pike Public Market and a medium walk to the Space Needle and other attractions.
The room was excellent and very comfortable with the usual features of a Marriott full service property — a bar and a coffee shop in the lobby, a full restaurant, room service, concierge lounge (not open on weekends, as is normal) and such. Our first day out, the room wasn’t serviced when we returned at 1:30 PM (when I called down for fresh towels, they were delivered with a smile.) but the next day it was taken care of properly.
The room itself was quiet, but the ventilation in the bathroom let you hear some of the other bathrooms. Oops.
As a Marriott Platinum Elite, my internet was free otherwise it’s an insane $ 12.95 per day. Unlimited devices, I was able to use my laptop, my phone’s wifi and my wife was able to use her iPad without a problem other than needing to re-​authenticate every 24 hours.
Parking prices are absurd. $ 38 a day plus tax. If you’re not planning on leaving the hotel, consider just taking a taxi from the airport and back. Really!
TIP: DO NOT LET YOUR PHONE TELL YOU HOW TO GET HERE. It will try to take you the «shortest» route, which is the most frustrating and has the most traffic. I can’t believe it took me 45 minutes to drive it. Instead, simply take I-​5 north from the airport to exit 164 (Seneca Street).
