Seattle Family Kite Festival

The Seattle Family Kite Festival (KiteFest 2007) was a fantastic event. Our young kids loved it. We arrived fairly late, but still had a great time. Next year we will go early to be sure and see the gigantic kites. (See the Kite Fest website Photo Gallery for photos:

This is the KiteFest’s fifth year. Organizers did an excellent job. The location, Kite Hill in Sandpoint Magnuson Park on Lake Washington, is absolutely beautiful.
There were free materials to make paper kites with, and, as you would expect, the materials provided made super kites that practically flew themselves. Great for small kids. Basically, all a kid had to do was color on the kite with ink pens and it was good to go! I guess even the coloring part was optional!
Of course, you don’t have to have kids to enjoy an event like this. Just bring your spouse, partner, friends, dog — whomever — a kite (if you want) and a lunch and a lawn chair and kick back and enjoy the beauty of dozens of kites of every shape and size floating peacefully in a blue sky.
If you don’t feel like bringing a lunch, PCC Market and a few others set up food stands nearby.
Most of all, credit goes to the organizers, The Model Family Mentorship Program, for creating an atmosphere of joy and excitement — while keeping commercialism to a minimum.
It’s a KITE FESTIVAL — pure and simple. Check it out in 2008!
