How have I never reviewed Scream? I’ve been coming here for 5 years, easily!
My stylist Jade, who I will likely remain loyal to until one of us takes a dirt nap, has seen me through myriad cuts, colors, and styles. She turned me blonde when we met, then dyed my hair bright red, orange, yellow, green, and black. She’s given me bobs, bangs, and even keeps my shorn nape spiffy when it gets scraggly. Mostly, I love her GREAT advice when I’m feeling a change coming on. We always work on whatever it is she does together, which is really valuable in a stylist. I never feel like she takes total control and she’s never done anything I don’t like. Plus, she’s great conversation!
The prices here are amazing, especially in comparison to similar shops. I’ll remain a loyal customer 5ever!

Walked in for a trim with tip 30 bucks and it was a good solid haircut. I have short hair and my other stylist has hit a price point that is hard to justify for short touch ups. Glad to have found a place that can take care of it easily with no fuss. Probably will be back. I had Laken as my stylist.

I hate to say it, but I was disappointed by my experience at Scream the last time I got my hair cut. I’ve never had a bad experience before, maybe because I’ve always booked ahead. As a walk-​in client, I got assigned to a stylist I’d never had before. I don’t expect a lot of chit-​chat, but she never told me her name or asked mine. She gave me a dry haircut, and she worked fast. At first I thought it was because she was experienced. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt so I just trusted the process. But as the cut went on I got the sense that she wasn’t paying much attention and she was just doing a rush job. No shampooing, no flatironing, both of which were given to me before at Scream without asking and at no extra cost. No checking the layers to make sure they’re even, and I didn’t get a mirror at the end to check out how my hair looked in the back. Less than two weeks later I already feel like I need a haircut.
My layers are uneven and my hair looks flyaway just a week and a half after the haircut. It usually holds styles really well– my hair with a good haircut literally looks like I’ve styled it after washing and air drying because it’s thick and wavy, but it just looks bleh. I don’t use harsh products, I haven’t dyed it in 10 years and I never use heat on it, so it’s not «just how my hair is.» Maybe I caught that stylist on an off day, or it was 1.5 hours till close and she wanted to go home, I dunno.

When I get my hair cut, I really just want it done right without any of the extra crap. Here, you’ll get a dry cut unless you ask otherwise and if you want a blow out or style, you’ll want to specifically ask for that too. A few months back I started cutting corners and going to basic quick cut walk in joints because I had a pixie cut that was pretty hard to get wrong. When I grew it out a bit, though, I just couldn’t get a cut I liked so I went back to Scream. Now I have a super fun layered bob. I went back in today because the back had finally lost its shape and gotten shaggy. It didn’t take long and she charged me less because it was more like «half a haircut». I never ask specifically for any one stylist because I’ve always been happy regardless of who I got. I’ll definitely keep coming back!

My entire appointment took 10 minutes. My stylist cut my hair dry, which is not what I’m used to but I’ve heard of its use for curly hair so I went with it. I asked for layers, and noticed that the stylist did not cross check her work at all. I’m not a professional, but I’m used to stylists taking their time and working deliberately when they layer my hair. At the end, she told me to just come back this week if I wanted more done.
I was underwhelmed, and even though it was inexpensive I still feel like I wasted my money.

Very happy! Color came out great — easy and fast customer service! I got married and they freshened up my style and colored my hair a deep nice warm brown color! Will definitely be going back — good prices too!

Scream was recommended to me by a coworker, who has been going for many, many years.
I’m glad he mentioned it, because going to Scream has been great! I’ve always left with a flattering cut, and have always had a fun time there. I can’t say the same about other salons in Capitol Hill.
Visiting Scream also inspired me to dye my hair for the first time, which I’ve been thinking about for years! Jordi helped me think through my ideas, and made me feel completely at ease. If you can get an appointment with her, take it!
I’m sure I’ll be a customer for a long time.

Let me preface this by saying that I’ve had several decent experiences with Scream before — nothing amazing, but certainly nothing this bad.
Today I walked in around 4:45 to see if they had time for a buzz. A female hairdresser with dreads said she did, but she had an appointment after me so she’d «hurry». If I’d know then that by «hurry» she meant «roughly shave me, giving me razor burn and cutting my scalp»…I would have passed!
The whole ordeal took maybe 3 – 4 minutes — she was, as I said, very rough with the clippers and she didn’t do a very thorough job trimming around ears, back of the neck, etc. My scalp wound is minor, so I didn’t realize until I was already out of the salon and headed home that I was bleeding.
Needless to say I will NOT be going back. As someone who has a super low-​maintenance style, I’m seriously disappointed that Scream couldn’t even manage to buzz my back and sides without bloodying my scalp.

I don’t know what the problem has been with my hair but I’ve always had to search for one person who could do it right. For some reason people always wanted to give me the 1960 Roger Maris/​Johnny Unitis flat top. I had been going to Acme, but after a few uneven military style flat tops, I decided to continue my search. After a few failed attempts at other places I decided to stop by Scream. I saw Jade for the first time and she was rough on me. I told my wife that she acted like I stole something from her, but I liked her style. I finally found someone who could cut my hair. I don’t know how long I’ve been going to her… probably over a year and she always does a perfect job. She also eased up on me since the first visit. Thanks Jade!

Great haircut by Jade. First time in and she had my style down perfectly. In and out the door in under half an hour. I’ll be back.

Goddamn where do I start.
I’ve always wanted dreads, searched and called around for a few months. Read up about people, asked people who they would recommend for creating my natural dreads.
The consensus was that Jade at Scream Salon, Capitol Hill Seattle, is the way to go.
She needs a full day for your hair so call ahead to book accordingly. Took me around 5 hours for 56 dreads and some adorable bangs to go with. She does extensions as well and is willing to go as wild as you want!
After seeing her amazing head of dreads and her beautiful extensions you will want them and will most likely schedule your appointment same day for em. They are that ridiculously rad. Jade is down to earth and the best for your dread care or the start of your dread adventure.
ALL staff at Scream are super sweet people!
LGBT friendly and the best place to get your hair done and talk with some cool folks while in the chair.

Let me preface this by saying you get what you pay for.
I came in for a simple trim/​cut and since I was new to the area and unemployed I was looking for something CHEAP. $ 25 for a cut? DAMN, I definitely found a place that’s easy on my wallet.
The girl who cut my hair was a sweetheart. I didn’t realize this is kind of a beginners/​hair-​training salon, so when she didn’t wash my hair to start with (she did offer after I mentioned it) I was completely baffled and disappointed since I’ve never had a dry cut before.
The cut itself I was pleasantly satisfied with. I thought for the price it was totally worth it, but now a month later it feels like I never even got a cut! I know this is a sign of a poor quality cut because 1. I usually get my hair cut every 3 – 4 months and in that time it holds up perfectly and 2. My hair only ever gets this limp/​greasy/​stringy when I REALLY cheap out and cut it myself. I have no training other than some lousy YouTube videos, so needless to say my hair is like crap after a few weeks of self-​cutting.
My fiancé did go here and he likes it. He has shoulder length hair and a bit of an odd shaped head, so when he has to test out new places his cuts usually end disastrous (lesbian styles/​Justin Bieber cuts/​etc.) But the same girl who cut my hair did a pretty decent job on his. He’ll probably be back, but I’d rather pony up an extra $ 30 or so for a more withstanding cut.

I love Scream!
When I was younger, this was absolutely the place to be. I got everything and every color under the sun.
The reason ⁴⁄₅ is that I’m older now, not really sure how to fit my fav salon into my life anymore.

Okay. I have officially gotten a pretty bad cut here. I won’t name names, because Scream hires great stylists and it may have been an off day thing (plus the stylist was really nice) — but I can still vouch for the flawless work of Nicole and Jade. Best cuts you’ll find for the price.

Spur of the moment decided I needed a haircut, as my split ends were getting the best of me. I was looking for an affordable place on Capitol Hill to get a haircut and found Scream.
I went right when they opened, since I didn’t have an appointment (they do allow walk ins). I was seen right away. I give them four stars for efficiency and cost. It’s $ 25 for a haircut, the lady cut my hair dry, which I read in some reviews to be a bad thing, but personally I like getting my haircut dry and being able to see what they’re doing. And it only took like 20 minutes max.
I would’ve given them 5 stars, but the stylist didn’t even ask me my name or offer hers. I consider that horrible customer service. She was friendly and all, but come on…

I don’t like to spend much when getting cleaned up. You cannot beat a $ 10 buzz and no wait! I wish the parking were easier to come by– walk here if you can. I will also say that when a hair stylists clippers are well kept and quiet, it is a much more pleasant experience. The stylist I had should consider oiling their clippers regularly.
I will definitely go back unless I find something more convenient to where I live.

I have been going to Scream now for about 6 months. I was previously using Sensa Salon in Downtown Seattle, but was looking for a change. From my first appointment to my most recent I have been nothing but impressed with the ladies at this salon. Scream is a quirky salon with a punky interior decorated in bright colors and interesting art and other stuff. The large windows at the front bathe the whole place in lots of light which is really upbeat.
The staff here though are what set Scream apart. I love coming in here because they embrace you like old friends. I originally was seeing a stylist, who has since moved on, named Nicole. She really helped me find and embrace a new hairstyle when my old one stopped working for me. I had fairly long hair I am very proud of and was always so nervous about changing it. However I went from long single length hair to a long bob and BANGS of all things. I feel so much more confident and in control of my hair now.
Recently I have been seeing the owner, Nikki, who is also beyond amazing. She worked hard to help me get some great colors in my already processed hair. She explained what we could and could not due to maintain hair integrity and worked with me to find a compromise that I liked and wouldn’t melt the hair off my scalp. Whoo! They are true experts in knowing how to work with heavily processed hair like mine which goes through dye jobs like men go through work socks.
The other great part of Scream is scheduling with them is so easy and the prices are very affordable. I am blown away at what a great deal I get especially for the level of service provided at this small local salon. They have really won me over and I plan to return again and again. If you need something fun, punky bright, or even mainstream they have a stylist here who can help you out and send you home feeling like a valued member of the Scream family.

Always got a great cut here. Went four times, with a few different stylists. It was worth it coming from the north end for the great looks they did. Not pretentious or Gene Juarez Yummy Mummy looks. Found them on Unilocal and THANK GOD.
My favorite guy left in Feb, & is now in closer to home (YAY) — but I’d recommend this place to anyone in that area. The cutting hair dry did happen to me once (oddness) but the cut was fine, *cheap at $ 25 for the good end result*.

If i could give it 0 stars i would! So second place i tried in seattle since i moved here in july and it was absolutely terrible! Good thing is i only paid $ 25.

Seattle hair stylists i HATE YOU

I’ve been going to Jordi for about 6 months now, and I’d never want to switch! She’s super friendly, and is great at both hair dye and hair cuts.
Plus, the location is fantastic. There is easy access via buses, plus there always seems to be parking open nearby. It’s located right in the heart of Capital Hill with lots of places to visit before/​after your appointment.
Pros:
–Atmosphere is fun
–All the hair stylists are really friendly
–SUPER knowledgable when it comes to weird hair colors/​dyes.
–Cheap! You get great service for half the cost at other places.
–The hair dye they use there isn’t harsh on the hair and lasts a long time.
–Great at any gender or unique hair styles.
–Willing to fix any problems with the cut/​dye!
Cons:
–The heating units seats are a bit run down.
–They can take a really long time if the stylist is handling multiple clients at once.
