Misleading quote and incompetence: avoid this company at all costs!
Misleading Quote:
When I spoke with Scott Sherman Auto Care over the phone they quoted me $ 700 for the service, replacing some brake lines, and some other minor work. I thought that was reasonable and requested a paper quote be printed up. I was very surprised when they called me that evening and said that the work was done and that the bill was just under $ 1000. I asked to see the quote from that morning and they started getting shifty, eventually transferring me to the owner of the company. He told me the only way I was getting my car was to pay the new full price so I acquiesced.
Incompetence:
Because of the poor service I didn’t trust these guys had done the job they said so I took the car to a different mechanic to get it checked. They had done the work they said they did, however, during Scott Sherman’s inspection they had signed off as 100% fine on several items which needed attention. The worst thing they missed was a slow leak of transmission fluid which if uncaught could have led to transmission failure. This issue was plainly visible when the car was lifted (I could see it at the other shop) so it’s clear they never bothered to lift the car during the inspection.

I’ve been going to Scott Sherman Auto Care for the last year and I’ve had wonderful service! I drive across the state often and always feel secure in knowing they have checked out my car and made sure everything is safe for me. They are fairly priced and are truthful, honest folks. All the guys are so friendly and genuine– I highly recommend you trust your car to them.

The service I received here was fast and excellent. The pricing was also the best I could find around Seattle and was true to the quote I received over the phone. I was also allowed to take a look at the damaged parts prior to the work being done and make a decision based on that. When my car was slightly damaged during the repair Mike, who provided exceptional customer service and did a great job on my car, fixed it at no charge. This was, by far, the best experience I’ve had getting my car worked on. Thank you Mike and Scott Sherman Auto Care!

They ended up charging me more than what they quoted me over the phone. Be sure to ask them for a printout of the cost they give you/​invoice before giving them the final approval. And make sure the total they give you includes both parts and labor costs. At least they were able to diagnose correctly and my car is fixed. Other than that, taking my business elsewhere.

Honest, no nonsense and genuine people. They valued my time. Didn’t try to sell me any work with «car language» I can’t decipher and didn’t make me feel ignorant about any questions I had. They fixed the problem without drama or thinly veiled threats about how «they wouldn’t drive away in that car, but hey, if you want to, it’s your life.»
I’m being facetious, but you have no idea how difficult it is for a middle aged woman to find a car repair place that doesn’t rip you off or treat you like a barbie doll without a brain. I just found my car repair place, and I will drive the two hours to Seattle from Port Townsend just to get the work done on my VW Bug. It’s worth that much to me to be treated like a human, and further more? The manager, Mike … awesome guy. Laid back, family man, understands the stress and cost regarding repair from the customers perspective, and very authentic about what he felt I should do – as opposed to «OMIGOSH! FIX ALL THIS NOW OR ELSE!»
Seriously. They rock. And their tow truck driver, Rolly, was super awesome too. No. They didn’t pay me to write this and I don’t know them. But I will see them often — my car is a wreck. I have total faith they will turn it back into a sweet little slug bug that isn’t a death trap. They said they could.
And (one more time) they didn’t make me feel as though I should ask my priest for forgiveness for not taking a home equity line of credit to get all the recommended work done that day. Thanks Mike (and the mechanics) Sarah from Port Townsend in the 98 Silver Slug Bug aka Work in Progress
