My friends and I were excited to check out this event on Friday night. We ended up waiting in the cold Seattle rain for more than an hour and a half before museum officials announced«Unless you have a ticket then you’re not getting in». More than 200 people were turned away! Shame on the organizers of this event for not having the balls to tell everyone before we were all soaked to the bone.

Holy OHMYGOD. I had such an amazing time at the SAM Remix on Friday night! I figured that this event is regular enough and popular enough, that there should be a Unilocal listing for it so people in the future can see if it’s «worth it» to go and then have a place to write about it after. So what was MY experience of SAM Remix? First off was the long line. I arrived about 20 – 30 minutes before it started, and the line went a bit further down than The Lusty Lady. When they opened doors, though, it went quickly.(I heard this was not the case for those that arrived later. They eventually sold out.) When you go in you split up into lines of: pre-purchased tickets, people who are paying cash, and people who are paying credit/debit. One of the bars was«cash only» and the other one took plastic. The event itself was a dance/dj party downstairs and the regular art exhibits(mostly) upstairs. No drinks allowed upstairs. It wasn’t any NORMAL, night, though. They had some events and special features. Included were: A couple models posing, surrounded by materials provided so people could sketch them(and then take their sketch home). A room with a DJ and mesmerizing visual show going on. Dancers doing some moving art — some fast, some slow. Some taking off bits of clothes as part of show(but always staying«decent» of course!). There was a face-painting section that was super popular but the line was moving VERY slowly. I heard some people waited for over an hour(while boozing it up)! There were all kinds of crazy things going on and a LOT of people. I ran into a bunch of Unilocalers and over all had an amazing time.(And I didn’t even stay for the last two hours of the event!) Age range: I read somewhere that it was aimed at 20−30somethings, but I saw plenty of people that were quite a bit older than that. Most of them were just enjoying the upstairs exhibits with their friends rather than drinking or dancing in the much louder downstairs area. So… it is worth the $ 5 – 10 entry fee(SAM members $ 5, students $ 8, others $ 10)? I say HELLYEAH! I really hope I get to go again next time and experience what crazy cool things they decided to schedule next time!
