A neighborhood gem. Love being able to pop over and grab a movie at a reasonable rate and also support local businesses.
The staff are super friendly, helpful and movie buffs who are happy to help find the old, the obscure, and the long forgotten flick.

What a refreshing place to stumble upon. Rental video stores are so few and far between these days what with Redbox, Netflix, Hulu, and so on; seeing that a place like this is thriving brings me joy.
It’s a nifty place when you walk in, an old house that has been refurbished. Each room is designated to a particular genre — family friendly, action, foreign films, new releases, staff favorites… you get the idea.
Their policy to rent is you must become a member of Reckless Video — which is super simple. Just fill out a small form, they do require a debit/​credit card on file, and voila you’re all set. Once you’re a member you can check out videos anytime and not worry about the hassle of paying right then and there. They do have a late fee policy, a rental drop box to drop your videos off during their after hours, and friendly staff.

Every neighborhood needs a video store with a great archive and Reckless is it. Their cross-​referencing by genre, sub-​genre and actor makes finding something specific a scavenger hunt, but the staff can always find what you want if it is in stock. Not a cheap store, but the alternative is streaming…
Why 4 stars instead of 5? Because the vast majority of the disks I’ve rented — out of hundreds — has been dirty.

my friend and I stumbled upon this place one sunny afternoon (while at ACE Hardware buying potting soil and kitchen gloves, of course) and decided to go in because what charming blue house with an Alfred Hitchcock and Bugs Bunny silhouette on the side doesn’t seem completely charming and worthy of exploration?
We were both rather enchanted. First, the two gents behind the counter were rockstars. One (the young lad with the awesome blue hair) was super kind and smart, and the other (the one without the blue hair) was charming and very helpful. Their professional camaraderie was exceptional and definitely made the experience worthwhile overall.
This place is nostalgic, really, and it breaks my heart to know it’s a dying industry overall. While my friend and I both live up on Capitol Hill — we hope to have more excuses to visit the area and support this rad shop.
We rented a few films while there — — so that means we have to go back anyway. Glad to! By the way, they’re all great. «Ghost World», Lily Tomlin in «The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe», and a series of shorts directed by Werner Herzog.

Wide selection and they always have the latest and hard to find videos. Super friendly service. There’s always someone there with your similar tastes and can recommend a great movie to you. And some kids movies are free with another rental.

This place makes you want to cancel your Netflix subscription. The staff is awesome. The selection rocks. And, the ambiance will remind you of one of those guilty pleasure 90s movies that features the «too cool for school employs» who know all about what they’re selling (think Empire Records or High Fidelity). I love this place and am so lucky to live near it.

These people are friendly and helpful, with a huge selection of well-​organized videos. They have $ 2 Tuesday: you can rent a DVD for $ 2 and keep until Friday. They have five days Sunday rentals, and often other specials. Check out some of the deals online and buy a rental pack for discount.
I appreciate that they’re open late and I can walk right across the street to rent a DVD. The staff posts recommendations and you can always ask, tell them what your flavor is, and they will help you out. Need some snacks? They have those too. Bring your dog or your bike, and there’s a great spot outside to keep them safe.
Keep video rental stores in business, skip the Redbox and go see a real person at Reckless video.

It used to be so much better before the arson forced them to move into the old house after their prior location burned down. I must give them credit for still being in business in the face of redbox and cable, but the staff could be much better.
For really knowledgeable staff and a brick and mortar store, I prefer Scarecrow in the U-​District.
Reckless is pretty expensive for what you get — staff that obviously aren’t film buffs, all of the new releases are crowded into a corner that makes it very hard for more than 2 people at a time to browse the section, and their «Perfect List» includes some stuff bad made-​for-​TV stuff.
The best thing about it is that it is only a block away from redbox… so if redbox is out of what you want, and you don’t feel like driving to another one, Reckless usually has it for $ 5.50.

We love this video rental location. It’s quaint and perfect for our needs. It’s rare that they don’t have in what you want to see and the staff is very helpful should you need to ask them something. Prices are reasonable — we usually buy a rental pass. This place is great!

5 stars Reckless. If I could give you 10 I would. I love this place! I started coming here back in 2010 when I was renting a place close by. They have lots of Seinfeld seasons, and tons of movies other places don’t have. For example: Sasquatch Gang.
Last night after being severely disappointed by Video Factory, I went here. I knew I should have. Even though this place is in the complete wrong direction from my house, and Video Factory is on the way home. I backtracked to Reckless on my quest to find Sasquatch Gang.
I asked the dude there if they had it. He knew what I was talking about which was refreshing… He pointed me in the right direction and even came in to help me look. It wasn’t in the right place but he found it for me!
AWEOMENESS!
The rental was $ 4.50 for 3 days, kinda steep compared to RedBox or Video Facotry. But I was happy to pay it for the awesome customer service and to end my quest…

my family just discovered this place a few months ago, and i can’t believe we didn’t know about it sooner. Though we have netflix, its great for getting a last minute movie right away. For such a small place, they have a great selection of movies.
Their rental system is great too. You pay for 20 movies at a time, then pick them up whenever you want. The staff has always been friendly and helpful

Good solid neighborhood video store. The clerks are a ton friendlier than they used to be (now that they know us) — plus dog cookies.
I love having a real video store left. Fun little house as a store.

I was looking for a video store that WAS NOT a redbox. I found it, it matched my driving. That place is RECKLESS video! lots of choices, and the crew knew some trivia on every movie selected… AWESOME!

Great video store… I agree with the last few reviews. The people that work here are not snobs and they have pretty much every movie you could think of.

This isn’t my local store but I’ve stopped in a few times to check out their selection, which is definitely decent. Their staff is fairly knowledgeable and not elitist, in my experience anyway. If you stop in enough, you can benefit from some recommendations for things that you may have missed, a nice perk of the old school video store. I suppose as I think about it, I wish they WERE in my neighbourhood…: (

It’s a good neighborhood video store.
They have specials on Tuesday ($ 2 for rentals) and Sundays (5 day rentals), but I’m not sure if those apply to new releases. I think it’s $ 1 per day for a late fee which isn’t all that bad.
There’s a good selection and staff is definitely knowledgeable and helpful.
Great when I don’t want to wait for a movie on netflix.

I cain’t quit you, Reckless Video. Though lord knows I certainly should, because I am the very prototypical worst-​case scenario (or rather, best-​case scenario) for any retailer whose profit model is based on late fees. I racked up $ 70 of late fees here – enough to have bought the movies about 4 times over, actually. One of the people who works there said something about me being either the record holder of this dubious title, or perhaps the second-(wait, was I actually going to say «best?»)
Ugh. Since I’m a daft old bitch who couldn’t return a movie on time even if I were being chased to the video store, movie in hand, by that drilling silver ball from Phantasm, I should really stick to Netflix, Redbox, and all manner of other rental systems.
But what keeps me coming back here are these super cool people – which they surely know is their only remaining competitive advantage (well, that and a roundhouse punch of vast selection coupled with near-​instant gratification if you live nearby). But they’re not just cool; they’re actually extraordinary. Highly intuitive. Delightfully (but always politely) opinionated, incredibly patient.
I can’t get behind any reviewers saying they’re antisocial. I feel an irrational surge of Yip Man wrath when I read those comments. Seen Yip Man? You should! I want to do that little slappy, punchy thing to those comments because they’re so ridiculously unfair seeming. Because while I’ve seen them on *slightly* less gregarious nights (preliminary evidence is suggesting they might actually be human, and as such, subject to variable temperament) they have unequivocally always been the adjectives I listed above.
That said, they will never. Never. Cut you slack on your late fees. Don’t even try to begin the larval process of generating the merest atom of hope about this. This may not apply to people not me, but… I don’t think I’m on their poop list.
What they will do those is pull out recommendations both old and new, notorious and obscure, that exactly match the weird algorithm of your most ephemeral cinematic desires-​no matter how embarrassing or crappy your inclinations might be on a particular night. Want something kind of campy but just 7% scary but not in a nasty perverse way – just sardonic perhaps – with a light ribbon of humor but a sudden and strange emotional investment in the characters, and oh yeah can it be British? They’ll take you back to that precise section. I’m only KIND of kidding.
My sons love these guys so much they can’t stop gushing enthusiastically about random things to them and you know? Busy though they may be, they do a better job listening to them than I typically do. They’re really just so unbelievably… nice.
So, as with the public library, PTA commitments, and playdate coordination, I will always be back, setting myself up for delayed delivery, personal breach of contract and ensuing widespread disappointment… or at least $ 10 – 30 in late fees every time I go there. I guess it’s sort of like a cinematic concierge tariff.

Short and sweet of it. This place has a great selection, REALLY knowledgeable staff, and a willingness to fulfill your movie requests if they don’t have it (although, they still might say no if it’s unreasonable).
As more and more people visit Red Box, subscribe to Net Flix, or download their movies from iTunes, its nice to have a place that we can visit and pick up a movie instantly.
Staff can appear from time to time very «comic-​book guy”-like (ref. Simpsons, look it up in Wikipedia), but mostly because they are passionate about film (ex. they refuse to carry Lord of the Rings on Blu-​Ray till the director’s cut becomes available, which WE appreciate).
Candy is available, and they do have a paperless receipt practice. Keep up the good work guys, we are definitely supporters of the «mom and pop» video store.

Reckless Video is right up the street from my house. It looks like a little house, but inside await treasures of movies!
I’m happy that a local video store still remains in my hood. I do rent movies from Netflix, but of course I always like to support local whenever I can and today, I walked into Reckless Video.
The staff gave me a tour of the store and my son spent a good 10 mins. picking out a movie for himself.

Gotta be honest, I thought this was one of those XXX video stores that just so happened to be misplaced in Maple Leaf.
The name sounds a bit seedy and as other Unilocalers have mentioned, it is literally an old house in a random location next to the hardware store.
I needed a place to rent a dvd near my place and of course I Unilocaled and found Reckless. The selection is great and the people working are pretty cool and helpful.
