History

Established in 2001.

We humans have plenty of stores designed for us. Shouldn’t dogs and cats have a store specially for them? That’s the thinking behind PJ’s Paws and Claws, which opened in 2001 as a boutique-​style retail store and expanded in 2004 with a state-​of-​the-​art grooming salon.

In the first year, PJ’s grooming salon earned a reputation as Seattle’s finest. PJ’s groomers are dedicated to having dogs — and their owners — leave happy.

Continuing its commitment to putting the customer first, PJ’s operates an online store that makes shopping over the Internet both a pleasant and reliable experience.

PJ’s offers an outstanding selection of premium natural pet foods, high-​quality pet apparel, gourmet dog treats (including a bakery case), and an incredible assortment of collars, leashes and toys. Customers will find merchandise at PJ’s they can find nowhere else!

Thanks for stopping by to check out our page. We hope your next step will be to visit our little store, in beautiful Magnolia Village. We’re a locally owned and operated business. As part of our commitment to the local community, we donate 5% of our profits to animal rescue and adoption agencies in and around King County.

Sometimes it’s hard to get the true spirit of a business from an online review site. Most of the great stories and experiences don’t get shared. We hope you’ll give us the chance to surprise and delight you some time.

Patty offers fantastic product selection and great service. The environment here is low key, inviting with a very attractive setting. If you’re lucky Jelly might be about in his bedazzled collar to let you pet him!
Patty does outreach with cat shelters and I really appreciate her involvement in the local pet community as well as offering the best quality products at great prices. Have been shopping here for years to buy dog food, cat litter, cat furniture, toys, supplies and treats for all. Have been very happy with all the products purchased her. TIP! If you want to have Patty groom your dog you must plan ahead because she is in very high demand. The wait is often weeks to a month or more!

For every item you buy they give you points & you get discounts. My dog s so spoiled with their «good life «food, organic, nothing artificial in their products. We walk in every mo for a pro. nail trim & pet their friendly cat!

I would take my English Cocker Spaniel, Chase, no where else for a groom. Yes, PJ’s might be slightly more expensive than Petco or Petsmart for grooming but, in this case, you truly get what you pay for. Not only is the grooming really top quality, but Chase actually seems to enjoy going there! All the staff are exceedingly friendly. Patti, the owner, is deeply committed to the local community and donates regularly to the Interbay pet shelter. If you are inclined to shop and support a deserving local business, I highly recommend PJ Paws and Claws.

Whoa! Best. Petstore. Ever.
I’ve been a customer of PJ’s for about four years now, and they are the tops! We take our Golden Retriever in several times a year for grooming, and the PJ’s folks do a consistantly fantastic job. Their grooming pricing is extremely competitive. I like my Golden to look like a Golden, and she is always returned looking and smelling great!
The retail store is awesome! The quality and selection is top-​notch. You may think that because the store is in Magnolia, locally-​owned, or is clean and carries a good variety of food/​toys/​etc that it would be priced high — you would be wrong. I had to make an trip to Brand X (faceless, corporate chain-​type) petstore this weekend because I was on the Olympic Peninsula, and their sale prices we the same as PJ’s regular prices!
Patti (owner) and her staff are always smiling and ready to help. The dog food we buy has a buy 12 bags, get-​one-​free program. PJ’s keeps track of how many bags I’ve purchased so I don’t have to worry about if I’ve bought 8 or 9 bags. We recently purchased a «Wonder Walker» harness for our dog and they made sure we had the perfect fit before leaving the store (think buying shoes at Nordstrom).
You may be saying to yourself «could this all be true!?» And the answer is yes. I try to shop locally and PJ’s is an excellent example of a small business doing it right!

I shop here all the time. The staff is great and they have the stuff I need (e.g. collars, hairball tx, greenies, treats, litter box scooper, etc.). I take my dog (German Shorthaired Pointer) here for an occasional grooming and regular nail trims. I also take my cat here for her nail trims. I prefer PJ’s over any of the other local pet stores. Plus they’re a lot closer than Petco.

I’m a little surprised by the poo-​pooing on the grooming services here. We’ve been taking our pooches here for the last few months and can’t be happier with the quality of the service. We drop them off in the morning and pick them up after work, and they’re perfectly clean without a trace of lab stink.
I haven’t priced a lot of grooming services, but PJ’s seems to be on the high end of average, and I think is well worth it.
The staff have been really friendly to us and our dogs, and they haven’t try to upsell anything when we pick them up. I know that’s a retail no-​no, but it’s much appreciated as a patron. During a recent visit, the groomer found a few fleas on one of our pooches, likely picked up where he was boarded for a few days while we were out of town. The lady ringing us up didn’t immediately try to sell us flea treatment, but first told us about the fleas, then tried to determine if we knew where he might have picked them up and if we had treatment already before she reached for the basket of Advantage.
Can’t say much about the food and supply selection as we take care of that elsewhere, but so far it has been worth the trek into Magnolia for grooming. The fact that their wait list can be weeks long should tell you plenty about how much others like and trust them.

This place is okay, but I think I’m going to try somewhere else. Most of the staff is friendly, but the older woman I believe to be the owner was rude and a bit snotty when I brought my dog in for a nail trim. I think having her shop in magnolia makes her think she should have this attitude. I’ve tried them a few times for nail trims and they have my dog in and out so fast that they really don’t do a good job and barely take anything off. I’m not looking for them to cut until he’s bleeds. Just enough to make it last more than a week, please.

This review is for the grooming section. I think the store has cute items for pets, albeit, expensive.
Grooming — first it is terribly hard to get an appointment. I had an appointment for my dog. The groomer nicked his skin and he got an infection and had to have antibiotics. When I called PJs, the groomer said that «she was sorry I felt that way.» There was no apology, no offer for a free grooming, nothing. Just swatted back at me. I had taken my animals there before and had very inconsistent results. The allure of PJs is that it looks like a super preppy stylish salon. But, once your poor animal goes into grooming, who knows what happens.

Pretty good dogstore in Magnolia. They’ve got the usual squeaky balls, chuckers, chew toys etc. Getting my pooch’s nails done was $ 10 and very fast.

I really really want to like this place. But every time I go I can’t find what I want and I have to go somewhere else. I go maybe six times a year and rarely buy anything.
But … I keep going back. It’s almost pathological.
I WANT TO BELIEVE!!!
But there’s just never anything here my cat seems to need.

This place rocks. I agree with the other reviewer who states they’d never get their dog groomed there, however, I have a pooch with a particularly troublesome tummy. The Associate there was able to point me in the right direction and helped me decide and find a food that pretty much went down to the basics. They are rather space-​limited, so the amount and variety of items they carry is slight in comparison to major chains like Petco or PetSmart, however, I think it’s a higher end variety.
Three, four and five-​star rated dog and cat foods available, some of which can be slightly difficult to come by. I feed California Naturals, and there’s only a few shops in the area that carry this. PJ’s offers a «food club» for pet owners who frequently purchase their pet’s food there. The treats are outstanding, always a hit.
For a small boutique, they’re extremely wonderful.

I would NEVER get my dog groomed here. But for the specialty items this place rocks. Need something they don’t have and they will order it for you. Parking is a pain but there are other shops to make it worth your time. I love the cat walk made for the shops cat to walk around all day. I love my leash hanger I got, it is a dog with a hook made fom scrap metal.
