A unique old school neighborhood feed & supply store for the 21st century. Located underground in the heart of historic Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle Washington. This is a full line pet store focused on selling local, responsible and healthy foods, treats, supplements, toys and provisions for pets. Personal Orders welcome & made easy. Plenty of what you’ll need, right under your nose. You will be in for a treat.

History

Established in 2012.

After working for other people my whole adult life It was about time I started a business of my own. I have over a decade experience in the pet food industry and have been working retail since I was 15. It has been a long journey and a lot of work to have this chance and with your support, Pioneer Pet is sure to become a new Seattle original.

I have been living in Seattle since 1999 after growing up in Alaska and California (don’t know why I sound southern) Im a skinny tattooed twerp with thick glasses and an affinity for star trek and animals. I believe in shopping local. I believe in good nutrition for myself and for my animals. Everybody deserves to eat healthy food.

I unwittingly started on the path to open Pioneer Pet when I adopted my dog, Irko, from the pound back in 2001. He was my best friend and I did my best to see to his needs in a healthy practical way. I am passionate about what I do because I care enough to give a damn and I am a professional because I choose to be. I do the homework so you don’t have to. I look forward to meeting you.

By far one of the nicest and funkiest pet stores anywhere, complete with two awesome felines, and two even more awesome shop keeps! Any time I had a question David and Deenah had answers, suggestions, and samples. Goma and Pixel have been super healthy ever since I started going there. Shopping there is a treat, and you might even get a hug!

What a gem! My pup and I were greeted kindly and immediately enjoyed some snuggles from the resident orange kitty.
The women who was working at the time (I can’t remember her name! Dark hair in a bob cut.) was amazingly helpful. She toured me around the shop and introduced me to some new and interesting treats. After getting to know Ruby, she picked out some treats, chews, and toys that would perfectly suit her needs nutritionally, mentally, etc. She was a real sweetheart and definitely knew what she was talking about. I was also very pleased with the reasonable prices and fun underground location.

I have shopped at this business for at least a year and loved it, right up until today. The owner had told me about the Sentry Calming Collar for Cats and I finally bought one, along with a terrific little cat carrier for an upcoming move. The collar went in the garbage after several hours, because of its obnoxious scent and the way that it turned my cat into a zombie. I thought the owner should know that this doesn’t work for all cats and since my online receipt welcomed feedback, I sent mine. I was told that I should find another place to buy my cat supplies. This reaction seems a bit over the top but I will certainly return to Mud Bay in response. Too bad.

A great local business! I moved here with two cats and needed to find a local place to do my pet business and found this underground pet supply shop. I’ve been shopping there regularly ever since. The two shop cats (Vito and Ivar) are the most friendly and directly mimic their owner and shop owner David. The store is run very well and it’s obvious that he cares about his customers and the presentation of his products. Although sometimes I wonder if I’m always getting my stars (repeat customer bonus) and sometimes prices seem a little high, you are definitely getting your money’s worth on service. It’s great to see the new improvements around the store and hope to see this place thrive.
Oh, btw, great selection for dogs too. some very exotic chew toys. I just don’t spend so much time on that side of the store. Feel free to bring friendly pets into the store, the cats are friendly!(plus they know where to hide)

I’ve been to too many pet stores where the staff doesn’t know its products very well. David at Pioneer Pet is friendly, well-​informed and eager to share his knowledge and experience with his customers. When I learned that the kibble which I’d fed my 14-​year old dog all her life was being discontinued, I knew I had to find a new solution. David recommended a kibble which was a good match for the make-​up of her previous diet and instructed me on how to gradually switch to the new food. What’s more, he threw in a free package of a pro-​biotic to mix with the new food. Bravo! (Oh, and he’s located in the basement of a Pioneer Square authentic. It’s fun to go there.)

What a lovely shop, what wonderful service! It’s not exactly convenient for me to come here, it’s not really on my usually scheduled routes around town, but I’ll always be back because it’s really a treat (for me, not just for my cat) to come here. I used to order from Amazon, that happens no more. Reasonably priced pet foods, toys, treats, and amazing service from people who care about meeting your pet’s needs as much as you do!

You think it’s going to be a little shop with steep prices because it is in Pioneer Square — and you’d be so wrong!
Huge selection, amazingly helpful staff, and a really great space and prices were similar or lower to other natural pet stores in Seattle. Can’t wait to go back and get a few more items for our Boston!

David and Dena understand great service. We just moved to Seattle with two kitties and he helped us find the perfect replacement food (local), an awesome new litter, and even gave us some treats to take home to try because I told him our old lady kitty wouldn’t have anything to do with treats. It was a challenge he couldn’t resist.
They have amazing food options and ask all the right questions to get you what’s best for your pets. Love love love this place!

Totally rad! Blocks from my work, super reasonably priced and David was really helpful without being pushy. I’m house-​sitting for a dog that usually gets lots of love but since I’m working he’s alone 8 hours a day. David helped me find some great toys to keep him entertained while I’m gone.
For 25 $ I walked out with a squeaky donut, a soft toy to store treats in, a rolling hard toy for kibble, a kneecap to chew on and a free sample of kibble! They’ve all been hits so far. Definitely recommend, just look for the cat and dog flag flying over the entrance!

One of the best pet stores I have been to! I was promptly greeted by the courteous and highly professional employee, Ivar. He pointed me in the direction of the cat toys and let me shop without being too pushy. When I was ready to check out he also tried to show me how to use the cat toys/​cat tunnel. Great employees, in Ivar and his brother Vito, the resident experts who are also cats. David the owner was so helpful and offered up some wonderful suggestions for my cat. I will be back soon to shop some more and discuss politics with Ivar and Vito… or maybe just pet the cute little fur balls.

I am more concerned about the quality of my dog’s food than I am the quality of my own food. There, I admit it. That makes Pioneer Pet the place for me. They have all of the best high quality stuff, and try to source as local and/​or domestic as they can. I get all of my chews, treats, and biscuits here. After we phase in the new food, my large bags of kibble will also start to come from this store.
The people who work here are awesome. And, it is refreshing sometimes to pet a cat while I shop for dog things. It makes me feel diabolical.
You wanna know how I found out about this place? I stumbled across a little news segment thing on you tube on a dog rescue on Orcas Island that caters to old dogs who don’t have homes. A man on Orcas continues his late wife’s legacy of giving old dogs a safe and healthy place to live out their days.
The host of this news segment mentioned the old dog rescue to the owner of Pioneer Pet. He thought it was great and with out hesitating loaded up a big basket full of goodies for the host to take to the old dogs. He seemed thrilled to give these aging canines some quality treats and chews. That type of energy speaks to me and my desire to make the world a little better however I can. So, on a whim I made a trip to Pioneer Pet, and I’ve never been disappointed. Positive chi can be found here.

The owner was so wonderful and friendly and really let us know how much he cares about the products he sold. We were on a trip with our left behind puppy after having our sweet fur child #1 pass away this weekend. It felt nice to talk to someone who seemed to care as much as we do. The shop cats were fun and I’ll make sure to come back every time I’m in Seattle.

The only thing better than the store setting and offerings is the owners! The kindest most knowledgeable pet folks in Seattle. We are in from Portland with our little chihuahua Cupcake, and he needed a local girlfriend. The fluffy fox was a winner.

The owner of this shop (David) is awesome. I brought my recently rescued Aussie shepherd in looking for help finding a harness and leash. David patiently walked me through all my options and helped me fit the harness to my dog. He asked great questions and was really sweet to my dog. He carries all the best local products. No need to wade through crap, he only carries legit stuff. And they’re open late which is great!

This pet store sucks! Ha ha, just kidding. There is no way I can give this place anything less than the maximum rating. David and Dena are great. If you have any questions about anything, I’m sure you’ll find the answer. Not only is this place convenient for me to come to, it is also in a great part of Seattle with tons of history all around. And in keeping with the the underground theme, you’ll find this underground establishment a gem in the Emerald City!

This pet store is as good as it gets. Quality merchandise, huge variety, knowledgeable staff, and a charming atmosphere are all found in this below the ground gem. Even though it’s thirty miles from my home, I buy nearly all my dogs’, cats’, rabbit’s, and chickens’ supplies here. I always leave this place feeling tall. Thank you Pioneer Pet!

This store is great!
It’s a cute little space, underground, right in Pioneer Square. Admittedly, the location is extremely convenient for me (a few blocks away), but I am extremely picky when it comes to my pets, and I’d be willing to travel further if I was not completely satisfied.
David does a fantastic job of being informative without seeming pushy. He showed me a large variety of options for my little puppy (even cat treats, which work better due to her size!).
Since my puppy is new and I am not sure what her preferences are, as far as treats go, the «singles bar» was a great option. I wasn’t stuck buying a full bag of something and just crossing my fingers.
He also gave me many samples of food for Rue (my puppy) to try. Considering her size, she’s likely got food for a couple weeks!
Lots and lots of great, healthy foods and treats for dogs and cats.
Pricing seems about right. I moved to Seattle from Minneapolis recently and everything is a little more expensive anyway, but I think I expected a small shop to be extra expensive. This really doesn’t seem to be the case. The pricing seems about right.
Wonderful. I’m stoked to have a spot like this so close to me!

Saw their signs still up so followed them around the corner to the shop. I was disappointed to see that according to their hours they were closed so I went down the stairs (since they are in the underground) to peak through the window to see what they offered.
The shop owner (I assume) was coming up the stairs to take their signs down for the night and welcomed us in to his store.
Wow their selection was very big, and included a lot of items that you don’t’ see at other stores. Very good quality of products. I would trust anything I bought there to be healthy for my pet.
The shop owner was very informative, and his 2 resident cats adorable but unfortunately still made me sneezy.
