Pink Gorilla

Great retro gaming store with pretty reasonable prices. The staff is super helpful, and overall it was a neat little hole in the wall gaming experience :-)

Their selection’s prices are balanced against the internet (as are all places these days), which means no deals or unique price points. Some stuff is way over-​the-​top. All the games are hanging on the walls, but they are upside down or sideways, making reading through them a very taxing experience.
The guy at the counter was also kind of a skateboarder bro. I asked him how much something cost (way too much) and when I was like «no thanks» he basically ignored me from then on out. I had planned on buying a game, but not after that.
They do have loads of import carts and discs, even some for the Dreamcast. And overall, it’s kind of fun to go into and look in the display cases.

Retro gaming popping up ever where. The store clerk was very helpful. There were Nintendo SNES SEGA GENESIS GAME BOY PSONE — 4 and Xbox games and a couple Japanese’s title as well but you have to have a Japanese console and read Japanese. Didn’t see any dream cast games.

This is a great place for random video game purchases. The staff knows what they’re talking about and go the extra mile to try to find what you’re looking for. It’s great that I work close-​by because I was looking for the Supernintendo version of Mario All Stars. They FINALLY had it today! I went ape shit (no pun intended. but I was SO STOKED!
They called over to the University District Pink Gorilla and they had it. I paid for it right then and there and they said they could send it to the Pink Gorilla store in the ID. SCORE! I’m over the moon about this and cannot wait to play it when I get it. Thank you, Pink Gorilla! You rock!

Pretty rad store and chain. This specific location has an OK selection with some solid prices, especially on NES. They have a pretty good stock of imports, too. This location, however, doesn’t have as much of a selection as their U-​District one.
Generally good people that work here… usually friendly. And they’ll cut you some sweet deals depending on how much you buy. But I have spoken with a few employees over the years that haven’t been the most approachable. Trade in offers are fair. Product quality is pretty standard too. They’ll clean up occasionally bad games that they get in, but not all of the product is in great shape.
They’re a solid retro store. Nothing too exciting, in terms of product, in here unless you pop in after a major local trade show. But I rarely leave feeling disappointed whenever I do buy something. :-)

I miss the Godzilla.

Well, this is the first Pink Gorilla store but the last one for me to review. Wikipedia says that the International District store is the «primary and original» retailer. I remember coming here back when I was in high school, when the store was still called «Pink Godzilla» and the second store in the University District hadn’t opened yet. But then the name «Godzilla» infringed on some copyrights or something, and the name was changed and now there are four stores total!
The International District store feels especially cramped by comparison to the other stores, and parking is an absolute nightmare. If you don’t manage to snag a spot on the street, then have fun paying a ton for Uwajimaya parking. Even after you park, the location may not be immediately obvious; look for the door under the sign that says «Fort St. George» and it’s in there.
The selection also feels kind of limited; maybe it’s because some of their good stuff has moved to the other stores. And of course, with something like old video games, what they have depends largely on what people bring in to sell. That means the stuff is going to change all the time, and they’re not entirely to blame if you don’t see what you’re looking for during the time of your visit.
I do like this store a lot, and it brings back a lot of good memories for me. You’re likely to see me drive to this one out of all the other stores the least though because I can never find decent parking. If I happen to be in the area, then yeah, I’ll definitely stop by to see whether anything has arrived that I might like to buy.

As an avid gamer myself, I love this store to DEATH! ((sometimes I wish I could live in the store)). The staff are quite knowledgeable about games which is nice to end up learning something new almost every time I walk in the place

This place and places like it make me wish my mother didn’t give away, donate and in general get rid of my precious video games!!!
Going to this little store, I have many fond memories flood my mind. It all seems so long ago and was short lived. It has some rare Japanese games as well as a lot of old games, classics and some I’ve never heard of.
Stop by and check out the games if you are in the mood to play some old games. Staff is friendly and games are neatly zip tied to the wall for easy viewing.

Very small, but pretty cool. Lots of retro games and even some consoles. Fun to browse, but I wish their inventory was displayed better, even with the lack of space. Lots of Japanese imports if you’re in to that kind of thing, but I’m not personally. I’ll still probably browse again if I’m feeling nostalgic and want something to play on an older console.

When you go to the entrance for Pink Gorilla it boasts that they specialize in retro gaming and that they certainly are! Some of the games they have here are for systems that I don’t even have anymore. I used to play my game systems to death, D-​E-​A-​T-​H! My brother and I played so much that the buttons on the controls started melting. Truth!
My gaming days are pretty much over but sometimes I still do buy a game here and there and play very sporadically.
For those who still have some of these old systems that work properly this could be a retro gamers dream! The condition on the games here are good and sure beats sorting through a box at a garage sale and finding battered games that may work when you get them home. Because these games are in good condition though you pay a heartier price for them.

Absolutely fantastic store. Wall to wall games from systems I hadn’t seen since my childhood. Came here to sell a few consoles in anticipation of the PS4/​XBONE launch, customer service was excellent. I wish the space was a little bigger so as to be able to display product a little better but the jam packedness of it all is pretty cool.

They sold me an N64. My boyfriend had been searching high and low for one for a couple of months, so I gave him one for his birthday.
I was in such a hurry that I failed to ask them to test it, not even realizing that I wouldn’t be able to return it if it was defective. I mean it makes sense when you think about it, since the products they sell are not generally brand new. But not to worry. The console works perfectly and my boyfriend was (still is) extremely happy. And it was totally cheaper than Amazon or eBay, and I didn’t even have to wait for it to get shipped to me (and then try to hide it from my boyfriend when it showed up at the door).
They were very friendly and helpful on the phone, and they kept out of the way while in the store, just let us browse and do our own thing while still answering questions. I’m a satisfied customer and will definitely check with them first if I have more retro game needs.

I rock my Pink Godzilla T like it was a trophy. The graphic is so beautiful, super high quality and to this day it hasn’t faded, cracked or otherwise lost any of its charm. I’m not a retro gamer so when I’m in Seattle I basically hit ‘em up for the store brand apparel and pins. They do have lots of nostalgic video-​games and consoles so hit ‘em up.

Pink Gorilla is among the few retro gaming-​focused stores in the Seattle area — but it’s not a very good one.
For some history — I used to be the biggest fan of Pink Gorilla you could imagine. I started its Wikipedia page; I generally stopped by the University District location every month — for a while I stopped in twice a week. I tried to stay updated on the store’s selection and grab interesting titles when they first appeared. This all transpired as I got into video game collecting and developed what used to be a casual hobby into a dedicated pursuit. The store has changed, though, and some of the experiences I’ve had have negatively impacted my view of this store.
First off, the staff are not very friendly. I’ve found this to be true at most of the Pink Gorilla locations. They won’t make much of an effort to talk to you or get to know you. This makes a huge difference to someone like me who really cares about video games and wants to have interesting discussions about them. I would like for there to be a convivial spirit, but I end up feeling like an unwelcome stranger walking in their territory. I had hoped they would approach a frequent customer with more excitement, or at least respect.
The selection of games is decent, but it used to be much better. When I first visited the store in the summer of 2012, they had a wide-​ranging selection of titles from across different platforms; if you wanted something it was generally easy to find. But as they have opened more locations around the Seattle area I’ve felt the selection diminish in breadth and variety. Now much of what you see is sports games fro $ 2 or $ 3 per cartridge. From time to time a Zelda or Pokemon title will come in but someone will tend to snatch it up quickly.
But, most problematically, I had a very unfortunate mixup at the University District location (see the review on that page for more information). Although the owner made the effort to improve the situation, the salespeople are still quite difficult to deal with. I’m left with a dirty taste in my mouth. I don’t feel like supporting the salespeople who provide such shoddy service. I don’t feel like they care. I figure I’ve spent at least a thousand dollars across the different Pink Gorilla locations, and yet none of the staff people remember my name, nor try even to be friendly with me. That says a lot about Pink Gorilla.

This place didn’t live up to it’s hype. Sure, it’s kinda cool and funky, but pretty disorganized. It look as though whoever was pricing was drunk I must say, some of the help have got to be fastfood rejects cuz they sure have no people skills. Judging from the looks of most of the customers, that’s a non-​issue.
Amusing, but I doubt I’ll ever return.

I admit right off the bat I may not be the best person to review this place. I like video games, sure — but not to the point where I care about the Japanese versions or buying oldschool super NES games cuz I still somehow have that console, cuz I don’t.
I have many apathetic memories from when this place was still Pink Godzilla, where after perusing the toys and games for about 20 min I would get bored and go sit out on the stairs and wait, and wait. and WAIT for my Otaku ex and his friends to get the eff out of this store. They usually left after I came back in and gave them «I’m hungry let’s leave NOW» death stares.
Still, if vintage games are your thing you should check this place out. The staff are friendly and know their stuff, there is apparently a lot of awesome to find, and i’ll still be waiting over by the stairs…

I have fond memories of this little store. I went here when it was still called Pink Godzilla, many many years ago. And I still have the SNES Final Fantasy III in shrink wrap from that day.
What can I say, this place is one of my absolute favorite places in Seattle. It’s got some rare Japanese carts here and the price is pretty decent if you’re a collector. Dust off that old Sega Saturn, PlayStation or N64, and come here and get some classics you missed out on.

Retro games are a dying breed these days, but much like classic rock, these games gone by deserve to be preserved.
I just wish Pink Gorilla (what happened to Godzilla? lawsuit?) was more organized. The wall-​to-​wall look is somewhat trashy, and just leaves me lost. It’s like the last 30 years of gaming got splattered all over the walls, and it’s our job to salvage the wreckage.

I’ve been shopping here for about 5 years and I snatched up some old school goodies that I couldn’t find anywhere else. goodies such as original game cube controllers, not those gay ass madcrapz, original gamecube memory cards, etc. the games however are a bit overpriced compare to those games on amazon, but it’s a retail store, so what can you expect? the staff are very knowledgeable, but they’re a bit quiet and too busy on the computer and stocking stuff up.
but today made my day, i saw super mario 64 for 20 bucks and it’s been sitting there for weeks. i checked prices on amazon and ebay and it’s 10 bucks off the price. the condition? it was like brand new. the game case in perfect condition, the manual are crispy nice and i redeemed the code on the nintendo website. the staff was kind enough to open that shit up for me to investigate if this item was too good to be true and it was. i haven’t test out the game yet though, but i’m sure it’ll work just fine. i’ll definitely be back for more good deals and more rare games.

Pink Gorilla is one shop that I wish Portland has one *hint hint for the Pink Gorilla’s owner… expansion soon?*
You can get all kind of games from Atari, SEGA, N64, Cube, Super Nintendo, Play Station 1 & 2 and even for more recent consoles. I was in AWWWWW and OOOOWWWW LOOK AT THIS GAME mode when I was in this store. It was so cool to be nostalgic and remembering all games that I used to play mostly using my SEGA console.
Pink Gorilla, you have a fan in me. :).

I miss the old store name, but I still love Pinky G’s, as my friends and I like to call it. This store is heaven if you still love playing old school games like SNES and Sega Saturn. Rows and rows of older, harder-​to-​find games, and not to forget all the great games straight from Japan. Some are pricey side, but it’s understandable due to having to pay to find it, get it, and overhead. (Plus, let’s face it – gaming is NOT a cheap hobby.)
They also sell Japanese systems, upgraded systems to play older games on, video game related toys & collectibles, t-​shirts, keychains, posters, magazines, and other cool stuff that you’ll most likely spend a fair amount of time looking through and wishing you had more money to blow on.
The people here are always friendly and helpful, more than willing to answer any questions you have, and much more fun to talk to than those kids you’re forced to deal with at places like GameStop.
I miss being able to walk into a store and get the imported games I want without having to wait for someone to ship it to me from Japan. Another great place I miss since I moved from WA.
