Pie Bar Ballard

Love love love. Such a sweet novelty. You know this was someone’s brainchild while out at a bar one night… Healthy portions of delicious house made pies with signature cocktails to match. The environment was warm and modern, staff was very friendly. The pie was delicious… Had sweet (blueberry) but would love to go back and try a savory pie with a beer. Do wish there were mor double-​crust sweet pie options. After sampling a couple friends drinks, I would recommend skipping the usual cocktail fare and going for the «pie-​tinis» that are served in a crumble-​crust-​rimmed glass. You are at a pie bar, after all.

This was a real fun spot to end our date night in Ballard. Wife and I bellied up to the bar for a cocktail and piece of pie (I would love to tell you we shared a piece but the reality is we shared with each other as we both went for our own… gluttons).
Anyway — the bartender was funny and interjected the perfect amount — not too much to be pushy but enough to throw in some jokes here and there, keep us well hydrated and fed and attend to our needs.
Only negative was they were out of the pumpkin pie (which I could care less about but would have been my wife’s choice) — no big deal, we were there a bit late and missed it. Probably good as it forced her out of her standard ordering habits and made her (well «us» to some degree) fight through the Almond Joy (yummmm). I, of course, can never turn down an American favorite apple pie and it did not disappoint.
We had fun — oh and while I certainly don’t want to say it was the best part of the evening, we are still laughing at the Ron Swanson/​fireplace/​scotch video that was playing at the corner of the bar… fantastic!
We will be back to try the savory pies — thank you!

Pie Bar is a total guilty-​pleasure spot and I’ve stopped by more times than I care to admit over the last few months. There’s plenty of space to dine-​in, but I’ve always taken to-​go (they have a window outside the front door where you can order pie slices for the road!)
So far, I’ve tried the chicken pot, sausage, and steak and ale pies (savory) as well as the bumbleberry and mountain blueberry pies (sweet), and have enjoyed every single one of them. The savory pies come with a side salad of greens, shredded beets, and feta cheese, and the sweet pies come with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Really the only reason this isn’t a five-​star place for me is the price — ten bucks for a slice of chicken pot pie is a little steep. But for the occasional treat, it’s definitely worth a try!

Well, it’s all in the name, nothing to hide, great great pie with a scoop of ice cream. Steaming hot coffee and of course, alcoholic beverages. Though I didn’t drink I DID have some strawberry-​rhubarb pie.
It was delicious. I would of taken a picture but I ate it too fast. Great cozy place, nice ambiance, family run, except for the funny British waiter.
Watch for Auntie in the back eating leftover ice cream while doing the dishes and busing tables. She was a riot.
Good prices for what you get. Nice neighborhood also. I would go back every chance I got.

At a place called «Pie Bar», the pie should be really good, since that’s the specialty. However, after sampling a couple of pies (I think they were called bumble berry and rhubarb crumble), I was not very impressed. The rhubarb pie was very acidic, and the berry pie’s crust was underdone. The size of the slices are pretty average but the prices are expensive. The pie comes with ice cream, and if you don’t want it, the price is still the same. They should have a no-​ice cream cheaper option. Also, having vegan pies and ice creams would be a welcome addition.
I was very disappointed because I love the Pie Bar in Capitol Hill, but they places seem to be the same in name only.
At least the ice cream was pretty tasty, and they had a good selection of teas. Also, the ambiance is quite nice and cozy.

Was passing through the area looking for a drink and a bite and spotted this place immediately — it is super super cute! They have a very warm, cozy ambiance and the layout is quite nice.
That’s about it for the good stuff though… we ordered the Marionberry and Chocolate Rum pies, and at almost $ 10 each we expected to get at least some pretty big slices. Well, we were pretty disappointed when they brought out these small pieces. They did come with ice cream, so there is that, but what the hell kind of pie is it that it costs almost $ 10 for a slice big enough for one person?!? The pie itself was just an average pie. Not mindblowing, but not terrible either.
The worst part is, I’m not even sure that they make those pies — I saw a guy bringing more pie from the back and it looked store-​bought. :/​and they just warmed them up in a microwave that was sitting behind the counter. I mean… anybody can just buy some pies from the grocery store, warm them up in the microwave, and sell them for $ 10 for a baby slice…
If they do make their own pies, I would say this is a solid 2-​star place because of how expensive and average it is. If they don’t make their own pies, I think 0 – 1 stars would be more accurate.

I love Pie Bar. The cons about it was the location/​space in the capitol hill location. This Ballard one has everything good about the original Pie Bar without the space issue! It is wayyy bigger. Could accommodate groups too! I came on a Saturday night and the place was only about half full. Not sure why they don’t get more traffic because everyone’s always trying to cram into the tiny capitol hill location. Both locations are not the best for parking, but I would say Ballard is the easier of the two.
I love love the key lime pietini and the fruit pies. Everything else I’ve tried is good too, but just not my cup of tea as much. Good spot for yummy cocktails + dessert!

Great selection of sweet and savory pies in a cozy space. We were a large group so ordered all the pies on the menu. Pe can pie and chicken pie were my favorites. None of the pies disappointed.

My favorite savory pie is the chicken pot pie, and coconut cream pie for the sweet. The Ballard location is chic and pretty big, they have tables in the back that can fit up to 15 people or so.
The owner and staff are super friendly and accommodating! They’re also open late and they serve pie-​tini drinks for about $ 10.
Great pies and great service in a fun neighborhood, what more can you ask for?

It’s pie. And booze. THIS IS A DREAM. And I am sad that I never thought to venture into this business before.
My friend and I stopped in before dropping me off at the airport to fly home. It came highly recommended by some friends that used to live nearby and once she explained it to me, I knew I had to check it out for myself and make sure it was real. We were there late afternoon on a weekday, so it was pretty empty. A couple other tables were dining in and a couple people stopped by the window.
There was only one lady working, but I believe she was a manager or owner or something. She said she had baked all the pies and seemed really passionate about her product. I ordered the banana cream and my friend had one of the berry pies. She told us about some of the ingredients she used and even brought out the banana liquor she added to the banana cream pie for me to see. She was so nice to us and everyone that stopped by just to ask questions. I did not get to try any of the cocktails (unfortunately!) but that just means something else to look forward to on my return to Seattle.

I got to try almost all the different different flavors of pie! To be honest, if you are expecting a really flaky crust or some sort of crunch, you will be disappointed. Their crusts are softer than what I’m used to.
Let’s break it down!
Savory pies:
1) turkey pot pie. Had inch cubes of turkey with a savory gravy that was thick and pieces of stewed potato.
2) chicken pot pie. Also had a good amount of meat with potatoes and carrots.
3) sausage pie. Also with the same gravy and potatoes. The sausage had a nice spicy kick at the end.
Sweet pies. Each served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
4) banana cream pie. Was mine and the group’s least favorite. Had the fake slight banana flavor and a lot of cream.
5) pecan pie. Very gooey with lots of pecans.
6) boozy pecan pie. Tasted like it had a hint of bourbon and nope couldn’t get drunk off of it
7) bumble berry pie: has a mixture of berries and a nice crumble on top even though I would have liked it to be crunchier.
8) peanut butter pie with chocolate and peanut pieces: creamy peanut buttery goodness! It was one of the best, but also sweet, so one or two bites would have sufficed for me
9) coconut cream pie. Loved the toasted coconut sprinkles on top and also had a good coconut flavor to it as well.
10) apple pie. Fresh apples were used and it wasn’t tart either. Just right.
Didn’t get to try the mountain blueberry pie, strawberry rhubarb, peach or key lime.
And lastly the pumpkin pietini. With crushed pie crust on the outer rim. Nicely sweetened with a good amount of cinnamon on top. I honestly didn’t care for the crust on the rim since it was soggy and stuck to the glass.

Pie Pie Pie! Similar to the one located on Capitol Hill, however, this location is much brighter and more spacious (almost 3x in size). I very much prefer this location, it has more seating available and you definitely wont feel claustrophobic.
PROS:
Location: One of the many wonderful eateries in Ballard.
Service: With only a couple of people working there (both manning the bar and tables), they did a pretty good job. Everyone was very friendly and we felt very attended to.
Food: The pies are wonderful and so tasty! I ordered the peanut butter chocolate, my husband ordered the crumbled apple and my friend ordered the banana cream pie. Everything was very fresh. The crust was amazing. Even though the peanut butter pie is cream base, there was still a slight crunch from the peanuts. Lightly drizzled with chocolate without being too sweet. All sweet pies are served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
CONS:
Street parking can be hard to find in this busy area.

I love pie. I need pie. I loved their pie!!! The rhubarb crumble pie was heavenly and the service was truly astounding. Thanks for amazing pie and a memorable evening all around. Whenever I need something for my pie hole, I now know where to go for my fix… :D
By the way, Colton was INCREDIBLE, what a gem you have in this wonderful cheery Brit! He took such great care of our large party!

For the pie and alcohol lover.
I’m allergic to fresh fruits, so unfortunately my reviews for anything plucked from mother natures womb is out of the question. I can review the cream pies though, cause who doesn’t like one of those?
In particular, my favorite and the one I will ALWAYS choose when coming here would be the coconut cream pie. Creamy, roasted coconuts, tons of whip cream and vanilla ice cream on the side. I would suggest to pair it with a yummy stout if possible.
Not to mention the night I visited, they were playing Futurama. What’s there not to love?

I’m a little bit obsessed with this place.
I’m a transplant out of Texas, and one of my favorite places in Houston is this tiny, 24 hour diner that specializes in pie. It’s about a 25 minute drive to get there from where I live, but is it worth it? You bet your sweet tooth it is. (See what I did there? It was terrible, I know).
I’ve yet to find anywhere that lives up to that magical haven, until now. Not only does Pie Bar serve up some of the best pie I’ve ever had, but they serve BOOZE. Can you hear the angels singing?! My personal favorite is a slice of Bumble Berry pie, which somehow combines every good pie into one: granny smith, blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries — no, I’m not kidding. They sport a full bar, as well as a specialties drink menu featuring pie-​inspired martinis and a few different kinds of Moscow mules. I’ve only had the Apple Pietini so far, which is a boozy dessert in of itself, and predictably delicious.
Since moving to Seattle, I’ve been to both the Ballard and Capital Hill locations, and I definitely prefer this one — it’s larger, and thus much easier to find a seat on a Friday night. If you are a pie fanatic like me, or just want a delicious dessert, hop over to Ballard and stop in — you won’t regret it!

Yum, pie! This is both a pie place and a decent bar with good cocktails and food.
The apple pie martini was really tasty and really tasted like apple pie, not the artificial flavor you sometimes get with cocktails. We also tried the turkey pot pie with all the thanksgiving themed fixings, and the chicken pot pie. Both were really good and came with salad. The pastry was really buttery but not mega flaky.
We also got dessert pie of course, and the banana cream pie was delicious. I also got to sample the cherry pie, which had a tart filling, and the chocolate pecan, which was like a chocolate silk pie with a pecan top. Yum. They also come with ice cream.
Service was really friendly and the waitstaff gave us several food and drink suggestions to pair with our meal.
Parking can be pretty dumb in Ballard, but you might get lucky and nab something on the street. Otherwise, pie bar also has a great walk up window in the front of you just want a slice.

Yes!!! I am doing my happy dance!!! I love the Pie Bar on Capitol Hill! And I’ve visited the one in Ballard a few times now. This place looks very similar to the Cap Hill location, but it’s in a much bigger space. One thing to note, this location not owned by the sisters who own the original Pie Bar, it is separate, but similar.
The Pie Bar Ballard has more pie selections available. Most recently we had the key lime pie and the banana cream pie. Both were simply divine! The key lime pie had just the right amount of sweetness and tartness that a key lime pie should have. The banana cream pie had chunks of ripe banana throughout the pie. There are also savory pie selections, but we have yet to try it.
Pie Bar is such a great addition to Ballard! I look forward to ending my nights in Ballard with an awesome pie!

Pie Bar has a cute, innovative idea; drinks and pie. The two go together like chocolate and wine. Now you can grab a drink and munch on some pie! If you’re not feeling like grabbing a drink (or aren’t 21 yet), and are just feeling like some pie, this place has got you covered. There is a little walk up window where you can get slices of pie (and whole pies) on the go! It’s very quick and easy.
The menu is taped up on the window and they offer slices of savory pies as well as dessert pies. From banana cream to their famous Ballard bumble berry pie, you’re sure to find a pie of your liking. I decided bumble berry because who doesn’t like a mixture of berries and apples?
Pushed the button on the window and was immediately granted service. The lady was so sweet and asked if we wanted our pie heated up and a scoop of ice cream. We passed on both since we were just taking it home. With a quick swipe of my card, I was holding a little box with my nestled bumble berry pie inside.
The crust is so flaky and buttery. The bottom crust layer is pretty thin, but if you’re a crust lover, the edge of the pie slice will make you smile since it’s pretty thick on the edge. The bumble berry is a mixture of berries so it doesn’t taste overly sweet and has that nice tartness to it. I could really taste each berry and the apples too. They don’t skimp on the fillings and each bite will have a load of that fruity goodness. The topping is a crunchy streusel which adds sweetness to the tartness of the fruit. Truly quality pie here.
It was about $ 6.50 for a slice, but the slices are pretty hefty and in my opinion, can be shared by two people. If I’m ever walking through Ballard at night and am craving pie, I’ll be sure to come back.
