History

Established in 1976.

Dr. Rubin has been practicing mercury-​free, mercury-​safe dentistry for almost 30 years. Our office provides a wide variety of general dentistry services, always with a holistic perspective in mind. We often work in concert (when appropriate) with other holistic oriented health practitioners to help provide the most comprehensive care possible.

Dr. Rubin has been a pioneer and a leader in his field, and has spent some of his time lecturing, researching, and teaching aspects of mercury safe dentistry. Dr. Rubin graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 1973. A few years later he became interested in a more «holistic» approach to dentistry, and became one of this area’s pioneers in mercury-​free, mercury-​safe dentistry. He has continued to pursue and expand and refine that interest. He has long been associated with the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), where he has been awarded both a Fellowship and a Mastership.

Dr. Rubin is also a charter member of the International Association of Mercury Free Dentists, and co-​founder of New Directions Dentistry, a company dedicated to teaching dentists nationwide how to practice mercury safe dentistry. For many years, he has had a special interest in the environmental effects of dental amalgam mercury and has lectured and published research on this topic. He has earned local environmental awards, and his office was one of the first dental offices to receive EnviroStar’s highest, 5-​star rating.

This Dr is 1st rate! His office is comprised of a knowledgable, kind support staff that make the experience better than average. Dr Rubins takes the time to explain the procedure and the precautions to ensure the patient has virtually no exposure to potentially harmful materials. If only all dentist worked like this! 5 stars!!!

Dr. Rubin was by far the only dentist I had ever truly adored and who I felt most genuinely cared for at the time that I saw him.
I first saw him because I was looking for a holistic, mercury-​free dentist. I had problems from poorly-​done fillings from my previous dentist, and he did his absolute best to fix the damage (and further decay) that had been done as a result of them.
Both him and his hygentists were friendly and warm, and they really made me feel at ease, which is a big thing for me with my anxiety involving needles in my mouth! I never had a bad visit — even the ones where filling and drilling were involved.
I was relieved when I found out they offer CareCredit because I was without dental insurance and fixing all those poor fillings really added up. Being able to make payments really saved me financially.
I am so, so sad I had to move away from him because at the time of this writing I have not found any dentist that matches his caliber! If you’re in the Seattle area I would definitely recommend seeing him.

Dr. Rubin is the most gentle dentist I have ever seen although all my dentists were good. During procedures, he is meditatively quiet and attentive, only talking to respond to me or communicate with his dental assistant about the work at hand. Some other dentists chat with dental assistants about their cabins, vacations, etc. which makes me feel invisible and makes it harder for them to notice if I am trying to get their attention.
I had my mercury fillings removed by him last year in two appointments. Although there were a few issues such as my typical difficulty getting the gums adequately numb, he worked it out and even told me that he was going to do some research before the next appointment to figure out why that happens to me. At the second appointment, he was able to achieve rapid numbing of the gums due to that research. His dental assistant was also also kind and responsive to my needs. His hygienist was also more gentle than others I have seen. Overall, the experience of getting several fillings removed and replaced with biocompatible materials was far better than I expected. We are lucky in the Seattle area to have a choice of biological dentists – Dr. Rubin is the best fit for me.

I have been a patient of Dr. Rubin for over 20 years now. I am very pleased with the consistent service and gentle care that I receive from his office. I have followed him to his new practice in the Northgate Area. His building is very beautiful and welcoming. You come in and feel relaxed and at ease.
Dr. Rubin was the first Holistic Dentist in Seattle which is why I’ve been with him for 20 years. He uses mercury free dentistry as a means to deliver health to his patients.
I read the reviews on here and feel that many of them are false for indicating that his office is slow to call back. The other one says that billing is paid in full at time of service, this is how all products and services work unless you find an option for credit.
If you are looking for a dentist that will go above and beyond and potentially save your life in the future… I highly recommend Dr. Rubin!

Tried calling to set up an appointment and no one has picked up the phone or returned my voicemail messages for two days now. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get through? I am hoping this is not how it normally is for their office.
UPDATE 8÷5÷2011 — never heard back from Rubin’s office and now have established care with another dentist.

I first went to Paul in 1981 and he remained my dentist for over 25 years while I lived in Seattle. I never realized how special he is until I moved away and had to find another dentist. Paul is extremely experienced and knowledgeable. If you live near Seattle, Paul’s the guy you want to see.

I recommend this dentist to everyone I know. I found him through the PCC Sound Consumer newsletter and noticed his ad because he practices biodentistry, is mercury-​free and abstains from using flouride. He is not your parent’s dentist! A true breath of fresh air. Dr. Rubin uses every new and safe technology such as digital x-​rays instead of conventional. His hygienists are warm and approachable. A great dentist, great cleanings and the newest information regarding advancements in the industry whenever I come in. All products are totally natural that they use for cleaning and care, many are for sale from the Herbalist there in the lobby. Great hours too, open in the evenings and on Saturday. A++.

I switched to Dr. Rubin because good recommendations came from two people I trust. The office is a lot nicer than other dentist’s offices and the dental hygienists are really great. They don’t make you feel bad for not flossing, they are gentle, and they know your name.
Dr. Rubin has the softest touch too! I got my mercury fillings removed and it was enjoyable! I don’t feel shame going to the dentist anymore. The office has a very alternative take on dental care so you know you’re in good hands.
