Othello Playground

This is a huge park with a lot of side street parking. The grass is green and the park is overall very well maintained.
I was here in the middle of the day where there were a lot of students walking home from school and family’s and people walking their dogs. It’s a beautiful park with a basketball court, huge big toy and a long slide.
The park was calm and brought back memories of my childhood. I just didn’t like how the park has a bad rep to it because of the neighborhood it is in. It’s a place to stop by after shopping by Safeway or grabbing food nearby Othello/​MLK strip. Also, bring a snack and wear the right sliding outfit so you can shoot off the slide quick!

Close to lots of good Viet food, a decent taco truck and a ghetto Safeway. This used to be a good place to hoop back in the day. It used to be ghetto and remains ghetto. I recommend carrying while enjoying this park lol

This place has a bad rep. Some of it is well deserved. But for the most part, when I walk my dog through this park, it’s a decent place. It has all of the basic amenities of a park. It’s wide and open with a nice play area for the kiddies. Two basketball courts. A bandstand area. Picnic spot with grills. A huge slide. There is an occasional event here. I don’t know if I should be impressed by how old school the wood cut out of a player for a sports team that hasn’t existed here in YEARS is, or shake my head at how out of date this park looks. The city of Seattle obviously doesn’t invest the money in this park to make it better as it has on formerly crappy parks to the north of our area… I’m looking at you Cal Anderson Park. It’s close to a taco truck and Safeway, so you can get your picnic on pretty easily.

It’s a great, cherished park in a ‘hood of South Seattle. Open areas, trees of all types, play toys, playgrounds, b-​ball courtz and winding paths that pass by a massive slide.
Also, Cynthia has an iron backside. I’ve gone down a similar slide in Skyway when I was a kid and they don’t round the bottom of these things — they’re just FLAT BENT METAL. I’ve once sat at the top, meditating the rapid descent of 20 – 30 ft — and nothing more. I mean it’s only sharp angles at the bends, no curves! I can only hear the:
«Weeeeeeeeeeee! — [thump] — OWW!»
It’s a nice park/​playground (parkground/​!), though. Just watch out for the inconsiderate poop plops from dog owners who aren’t quite mindful and some trash. Besides that, check it out a bit the next time you’re in the area winding away from time.

I heard that there’s a kids’ playground here, with the usual big toys and stuff. Frankly, I never even noticed the playground because of the GIANT SLIDE.
You may have heard of the giant slide before, but no one ever seems to know exactly where it is. It’s like trying to find the Fremont Troll yourself if you’re not from around Seattle.
If you want a fun 15-​minute divergence from being an adult, this is the place to do it. The slide itself is not very smooth, so my super-​secret tip is going to come in handy for the newbies: Wear fleece.
I don’t have fleece pants, so I just take my Columbian sweater and tie it around my waist. Got it? So let’s go over the list of things you need:
1. Friends
2. *Alcohol consumption prior (this is optional)
3. Fleece
4. Lack of fear of shooting off the end of the slide like a rocket and ending up on your butt, driven a foot-​deep into the wet wood chips at the bottom.
The slide is narrow, so if you’ve got some junk in the trunk, then you may want to want to hit the gym a little harder before attempting.
Repeat running up then sliding down until you’re properly winded and your cares for the moment, seemed to have slid away.

They have concerts at Othello Playground on Sunday afternoons. It’s a very pretty little park with a nice new play structure.
Too bad you can’t go there without stumbling across a drug deal.
