On The List OTL

I have used Fill A Seat– Seattle and OTL-​Seattle for a few years, on and off. Had a better experience with Fill A Seat. They at least had a couple of decent shows over the year I used them. So, my objective in submitting this 2 star review is merely a hope that the management team at OTL will notice and take corrective steps, in interest of its customers.
As other reviewers have written, OTL-​Seattle has mostly offered same few venues for almost a year now. Which gets stale after a couple of times…
My recent disappointment happened when OTL Seattle did not even respond to my multiple requests for a «two-​week guest pass» — a program they proudly advertise for their members, but obviously do not honor.
Off of their website: «On the List at home… On the List on vaca… Submit the following form and let us know a bit about your trip and we’ll set you up with a two-​week guest pass as long as you’re going to a city we reside in…» — I was visiting Orlando and Tampa, FL — both cities OTL says they operate in. Submitted the request for the guest pass… No response. Followed up with another message… Nothing still! And that was weeks ago! :-(
— You get what you pay for!

I rather like going to obscure shows, so signed up for this for half-​price last fall. I have only been to one production. As it happened, it was one a friend was in that I was going to see anyway, so was able to treat some friends and get my money’s worth. I keep checking, but there is really nothing since that I have wanted to see. Nothing. If you are into weeknight comedy in Tacoma, or a violin player at some out of the way place in Seattle or Everett, this might be for you. I can get a much better deal on Goldstar, and there is no annual fee.

I used Fillaseat (and the much better House Seats) while living in Las Vegas, those membership sites were fantastic. One time I even scored $ 800 tickets to a major boxing fight. I loved those membership sites, which is why it pains me to write the following:
1. Otl is not worth $ 8 a month, it’s not even worth $ 1. (There was a free website in Las Vegas, Show Tickets for Locals, that everyday had better tickets than this pay site)
2. As of the time of this writing, all I’ve seen are comedy shows, improvs, and tickets for other really crummy events that you could buy for less than $ 8.
3. At most, there are 3 – 5 events up at anytime.
4. On Goldstar Seattle, you’re much more likely to find a show that’ll you’ll really enjoy each month for under $ 15
Bottom line, this service is a far cry from what it could be and it is not worth spending any money on.

This service is useless. I got a coupon for 50% off the membership price and took a risk not knowing what kind of shows they offer. They are all low-​budget concerts by people you have never heard of or comedy shows in places like Everett. Seriously disappointing. There was one production I wanted to go to since signing up and that sold out immediately.

BOTTOM LINE: «There’s no such thing as a free lunch» as much as me and my fellow reviewers would like to hope otherwise. However I would say signing up for this service and being dissapointed is 50% the fault of the vendor for over hyping there service and not giving full disclosure with many past examples of shows, and 50% the fault of the buyer for not researching before buying. BUYER BEWARE is the term.
As some have stated this outfit is helping venues fill seats with generally very low budget productions that are either mediocre and/​or do little or no advertising. There’s a reason there are empty seats to fill people! This is not to say that ocassional there will be a diamond in the rough but then you better be the early bird or lose the worm.
The thing I really don’t like is that rumor has it that this outfit is name going by the name «On The List» OTL. An Amazon coupon came out and you can’t find any reviews on OTL because it’s so new. This name switch is obviously a marketing tactic to attempt to ditch the negative review history even if it’s not the exact same company.
In my experience you are WAY better off getting tickets off SCORE BIG which has coupons for $ 40 for free or whatever from time to time. Goldstar also has some decent deals sometimes. At least these services you know what you are getting for your money UP FRONT. Craigslist is another great way to find desperate sellers of tickets when the show date is near.
Use your brain. There’s no such thing as a free lunch.
