Meat the Live Butcher

I really enjoy this place. I don’t come here often, but when I do it’s awesome and then I am reminded how often I should actually visit this place. I usually get marrow bones here to roast in the oven and they always make sure the cuts are even so that the bones stand on their own while roasting. The other day I went to get some steaks (boneless ribeye) and the thing I love about this place is that they get the cut you ask for, and they show it to you to make sure that it is the cut you want. She asked me if the two cuts of boneless ribeye was good and I looked at it and I was just in aw. They looked so beautiful and big and had a nice color. I will definitely come back for more things here! Customer service is always an A+!!! :)

Best place to go for your Meats and Cheeses. Everything is sooo fresh. Got some crab pieces from here yummmm will not go anywhere else. Tom also sales BBQ sauces that he has made (so yummy!!) And seasonings which is also good. Awesome staff. Downside is parking. If its very busy u might have to park down the street. But it is worth it!!!

I am lucky to live close to the Live Butcher but if you don’t it is worth the drive. Great products, service and prices plus the best sausage in town. If you don’t see something you want, just ask, the chances are good it is in the back and they will cut it for you. Small counter but it is unbelievable how much is in this shop. Highly recommended.

I was looking for a place to get meat to make gravy (sauce) for pasta. This place had it all. Not only did I get all the meat I wanted, I learned that I was using the wrong cut of meat to make my own Braciole. I learned that if you use flank steak and cut against the grain it all falls apart! I always wondered why that happened! The butcher was so nice and spent time explaining to me some tips on how to prepare things and even took the time to flatten some of the meat for the Braciole. My gravy came out great and the Italian sausages were tasty. He even gave me string to tie the bracioles with and a free sample of jerky. I’m definitely going back!

I’ve never been disappointed. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. If you don’t see what you are looking for just ask, they’ve always had what I was looking for. I’ve had everything from, ground beef, roasts, pork chops, links to steaks and it’s all been great. The prices are outstanding!

This place is cool. I ended up going here because Bobs was closed. Glad I did. Good cuts of meats. I like how they have lots of options besides just steak. Lots of skewered meats Italian chicken, Hawaiian pork, I bought some skewered marinated prawns to try tonight and a wrapped flank steak with cheese and what looked like basil. Will update after I eat them.
Had the prawns and they were amazing. Each prawns is wrapped in bacon, then the whole thing has chopped garlic and peppers. They are gone now. Next on deck is the Italian chicken

The best butcher shop ever! Great family owned great service, all of the speciality marinated meat and home made sausage are wonderful. The ghost pepper hot links rock, you’ll feel the pain for a day or 2. So glad to have them in the neighborhood.

If I need meat, I go here. If I’m in a bad mood and need a cheerful exchange, I go here. If I need meat and I’m in a bad mood, I go here. If I’m broke, I go here. If I’m flush with hundreds, I go here. Delicious meats and delicious people!

This place is great. I’m a vegetarian but I buy all the holiday meat from this place. The are super helpful and nice. They also carry good quality organic eggs. The price is the same as the super markets but the quality is much better.

Some day soon this location will have lines and a following. The quality of meats they have is great and the options the offer is also great.
My favorite though are the spicy land jaegers. Also the salmon candy is amazing and very original tasting. This family owned and operated company is one of my top favorites.
Also another treat is their beef sticks.

Once in a blue moon I give a 5 star review. There are so many goodies to choose from when you walk in I would take home half the shop if I could. I haven’t been in a butcher shop since I was a kid. This is my second time here and won’t be my last. Steaks and chops is what I have picked up the last few times. By far better meat than your regular grocer around the same price as well. Yes, it’s an additional stop after your grocery shopping but it’s worth it. Beef sticks are amazing as well really delicious! The girls that work there are always friendly and look like they actually enjoy working there, and cute as well ;-) I have 2 pounds of the North Dakota sausage in my freezer I have still yet to try, but if it’s as good as the steaks and chops I’ve already tasted, then I should be in for a treat.

I went in here searching for a leg of lamb, I walked out with something better and a desire to come back as soon as possible.
First Impressions– It was so nice and clean! Everything from the surfaces, to the displays, to where the staff was working in the back was absolutely pristine. I hadn’t been here before, so sometimes, you wonder what you might be getting yourself into when it comes to raw meat handling. My worries were assuaged very quickly.
Customer Service– AWESOME! SO AWESOME! On so many levels! First, we were quickly and warmly greeted by a nice lady. We told her what we were looking for, and she regretted to inform us that she didn’t have it. However, she went to the back to check anyway (thank you for customer service initiative). Confirming her fears, they didn’t have it, but she pulled in another staff member to see if there was something else that would work. He listened to what we were making and gave us a breakdown of the options he had and how they would impact our cooking. For example, he made a suggestion, but warned us it would take forever to cook. I really appreciated that because I wouldn’t have known any better. He even made a suggestion as to something that would work really well, but mentioned that it was really pricey for what we were doing. At this point, we didn’t care. If it tasted good, we were willing to spend on such excellent customer service and information. This is something you will NOT get at the grocery store.
Quality– We got some lamb tenderloin, and he asked us how we wanted it cut. It was SO NICE to have someone else cut the meat because that is one of my least favorite parts of cooking. The cuts were exactly as I wished, and the quality of the meat was just fabulous (both in how it was cut and how it tasted in the dish). We also decided to pick up some chicken breasts for some skewers we were making; again, the quality of this meat was clearly better than anything I would have gotten at the store.

Fresh, friendly, fast and local! We love our local butcher and buy all of our meat and fish there now. Tom puts his mom’s recipes into the mix for variety — marinates, herb blends, seasonal dishes and more. Now to get him make the rest of our meal for us! Lol!

I used to work as a checker for Bernie and Boys during hs & college so I paid myself a visit to Toms shop. My bf and I enjoy our monthly indulgence of gourmet steak so I bought a rib eye for my bf, and t-​bone for myself. We absolutely loved the quality of the cuts! We definitely know where we’ll be purchasing our future steak eats. As for the pepperoni sticks, they too were delish. My bf said they were the best beef sticks he’s ever had. Haha. Anyways, if u want some of the best meat around for the best prices, this butcher shop is the place to go!

Excellent selection of cuts. Got some Italian sausage that was perfect for my Sunday pasta! Ground lamb for some Greek food. Very helpful and knowledgable!

Being used to getting my meat from grocery stores, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a butcher. Personalized service, sure, but after experiencing The Swinery, I didn’t expect to be able to afford any butcher meat at all, ever. How happy I am to be wrong!
Meat the Live Butcher is a hole-​in-​the-​wall butcher shop in Highland Park, near White Center. The butcher and his associate could not have been friendlier or more helpful, and the selection was impressive (everything from land jaeger to rocky mountain oysters to flank steak to ground sausage, plus deli cheeses and more).
I was surprised to see that the more garden-​variety meat options were the same price as I was paying for them at Trader Joe’s, QFC, and Safeway! Except, in this case, they’re from local farms, some of them are organic and/​or grass-​fed options, and of course Meat is a local business (so the money I spend there tends to stay within my community). Yay!
We have now made the switch to getting all of our meat (bacon, steak, chicken, stock bones, etc) from Meat the Live Butcher. Their rabbit is half what I paid for it at The Swinery, which puts it back into my price range, and I can’t wait to try their more exotic offerings. I definitely recommend checking this business out… I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised, too!

We’ve been in about half a dozen times and need to make it back soon. The friendly and efficient customer service, and very reasonably priced and high quality meats make us regret any meats we buy at the supermarkets for convenience sake. So far we’ve purchased bacon, ground beef, stew beef, chicken breasts, and landjaeger, and been thoroughly satisfied with all. Make this your neighborhood meat supplier, or just stop in when you’re nearby, and you won’t be disappointed. This place is very well worth the extra trip to get the right groceries!
