History

Established in 1993.

MAIA was founded in 1993 in the San Francisco Bay Area by author S. Brill (The Queer Parents Primer, The Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy and Birth). Kristin Kali, LM CPM joined the practice in 2006 and is now sole owner. MAIA currently has two office locations in Berkeley, CA and Seattle, WA.

Kristin Kali, LM CPM is a talented and insightful guide for families in the process of welcoming a baby. As a midwife, she applies clinical knowledge within a context of client education, empowerment and support. Since 1997, Kristin has assisted hundreds of people in the process of becoming parents.

Kristin holds space for new parents to fully realize the deeply transformational process and life-​altering capacity of the conception, pregnancy and birth experience. She honors the centrality of a parent’s own sense of inner knowing, vital to the journey of creating, birthing and nurturing a child. She works in partnership with families who have decided to take an active role in the health of their pregnancies, their babies, and their relationships with one another, allowing empowerment to take place within an atmosphere of trust, respect and love.
