Good luck guys, from one small business owner to another. What a bunch of PC morons you have to deal with, my sympathies.

Malicious mischief in the third degree.
(1) A person is guilty of malicious mischief in the third degree if he or she:
(a) Knowingly and maliciously causes physical damage to the property of another, under circumstances not amounting to malicious mischief in the first or second degree; or
(b) Writes, paints, or draws any inscription, figure, or mark of any type on any public or private building or other structure or any real or personal property owned by any other person unless the person has obtained the express permission of the owner or operator of the property, under circumstances not amounting to malicious mischief in the first or second degree.
(2) Malicious mischief in the third degree is a gross misdemeanor.

I went to have my car detailed but learned of their new «Pour water on the homeless policy» and decided to go elsewhere. Unlike Mac’s owner, Tony Bananas, I value treating others with respect, regardless of financial standing. You see, this business poured water from a hose over its fence onto innocent citizens of Seattle.
I’ll come back, only when the closed for good sign is up.

This is a great business and with all the crime in the area, I completely get why the business owner used a hose instead of walking into a needle infested area. Like most of the recent 1-​star reviews, I haven’t been here either but I completely support him especially given the history of this place which I learned on KIRO radio.

The people who run this business are absolutely disgusting.

This place is a terrible example of heartless capitalism and should be avoided at all costs.

I’ve personally heard and experienced the following bad things about Mac’s:
1) They recommended that I use outdoor Sunbrella to reupholster my 47′ sailboat’s interior cushions. That’s like making lingerie out of tent canvas. (When I asked about other materials like UltraSuede they said that those were all ultra-​expensive and only for super-​high-​end yachts. But there are lots of ultrasuede knockoffs that are fine and cheap enough. Which is what I wound up getting recommended to use by the upholsterer I actually went with).
2) I’ve heard (from an ex-​employee) that they treat their workers poorly. This guy in particular moved from out of state to take a job with them, only to discover they had decided to pay him much less than they had promised.
3) Then there’s this:

I’m very sad. At no time is hosing down a homeless person’s campsite okay. Especially in the middle of winter. Someone could have been frozen to death. Especially if suffering with addiction.
Don’t be a horrid human.
Update: reply from a Tony at Mac’s email. I asked if the story was true and shame if it was.

If they don’t care about helping others out, and ruining the belongings of those who are less fortunate than me, and are in need of help… Why should I expect them to care about what I bring in. Seeing how they treat the belongings of the homeless shows me exactly how little they care. And I can’t give my business to someone lacking empathy and not caring about their fellow man

Sounds like they already have a bad track record and that Tony M. can’t own up to bad work and poor customer service, instead writing it off on impatient customers in the show room? Seriously? What kind of professional business takes that kind of stuff out on another customer.
And what kind of awful people set up a sprinkler to intentionally drench someone’s belongings. Karmas coming back tenfold and I predict you’ll lose all of your business. Shame on you. Ugly ugly ugly people. I hope when you fall on hard times, someone on the up and up is standing behind you with a bucket of ice water to soak the only clothes on your back in the dead of winter.

I had a great experience here! I was skeptical that anyone would be able to repair my rare red leather Chinese ottoman as it had pretty special stitching on the side that had split, but when I picked it up, I really had to look to see which side they had repaired! I was surprised that they were able to match it so well.
Friendly staff, great work and very affordable! I highly recommend their services and would trust them with even the most delicate of projects. Nice job Mac’s!

My experience went from bad to worse. They charged $ 80 an hour to put a sprinkler on the roof to determine where the minor leak was. An extremely minor one. After the seal was repaired, I went to pick up my car only to find someone drying the inside of the car with towels and fans. Turns out that after the seal was replaced, they did the sprinkler test again, but forgot to roll up the windows. So water had just been pouring into the car. When I expressed my concern, the initial guy was very apologetic and kind. When I asked if I could get a discount of 5−10% (insides were still sopping wet), the guy said he would need to ask his boss. I’m standing at the counter when an older man walks in, and after the situation is explained the boss states «She wants a discount for that? Didn’t she bring this in because it was already leaking?» in a very sarcastic tone. I’m maybe five feet away from the two of them, and no one else is in the building. When mentioning that I brought my car in with a small leak, and was getting it repaired to avoid water damage inside, yet his company caused a large amount of water to get dumped inside, the «boss» was very dismissive. I think I finally got a 5% discount. Although they did a good job of replacing the seal, the disappointing service will prevent me from ever going back. Full disclosure– this did happen a couple years ago, I just finally got my Unilocal activated.

If it was the weatherstripping the old top would’ve leaked, right? The leaks only started happening after the brand-​new top was put on at your shop

I went to Mac’s a few years ago to have a seat reupholstered and my dash repainted. They did a great job, so I tried calling them this morning to make an appointment to have some other work done.
I started to describe the issues with my interior (broken seat belt, loose console on the passenger door, and loose panel on the back door). He interrupted me a couple of times to say «just bring it by» and wouldn’t tell me their availability or if he could even do the work. After I finally managed to tell him the three things I needed help with, he continued talking quickly and angrily, punctuated by the memorable statement:
«I may need to take the door apart AND YOU WILL PAY ME FOR MY TIME!»
I don’t know why he felt the need to say that, as I would obviously pay for any services rendered. I just wanted to get an idea of how long I would need to be away from my job in order to get this work done. I told him he sounded stressed out and apologized for inconveniencing him with my business inquiry. He complained that he had a lot of customers today and said he wanted to call me back, although he doesn’t have my name and number.
Unfortunately, my positive experience from before isn’t enough to make me want to contact this company and risk talking to this person again.

if you can ignore tony’s gruff personality it will be a smooth process.

My bad kitty decided to urinate on one of the couch cushions on my Queen Anne couch. Needless to say, it was ruined. I went to a few upholstery shops to get an estimate and they were all in the $ 225-​$ 275 range. I checked in with Macs and Michelle quoted me around $ 130. They had a deal! I took the good cushion in and my cushion covers. They did a fantastic job of matching the cushions in depth firmness and fit in the covers and with taxes, it was almost ½ of other quotes I received. I highly recommend them for your upholstery needs.

Before I begin this review, I should say that I never contacted Mac’s about this, so I did not give them the opportunity to fix it. One reason I didn’t go back is because I didn’t want to deal with the guy at the front desk again. He was so snippy, both when we dropped off my car and when we picked it up (after a full week, because I hadn’t received the single voicemail they said they left and I’d been told it would take awhile). We had other reasons for not bringing it back — namely that I needed my car and we were dealing with other more pressing problems — and eventually it just seemed pointless to mention it. But I still believe it’s worth noting here.
I brought my VW Jetta in with a leak that had caused some flooding. I believe I paid about $ 400 for the repair. After I picked my car up, the first thing I noticed was that my airbag light indicator was on, which was noted in my invoice and which I would have to get rebooted. Annoying but not the end of the world.
Then, later that day I noticed a crack at the very bottom of the windshield, which had been removed during the repair. I am 99.9% certain there was no crack there before. Why? Because for months we had been examining very window and seal, trying to figure out where the leak was coming from, and if there had been a crack in the windshield we certainly would have noticed. Plus, the repair guy didn’t make any note of it, though it seems like something you’d point out immediately if you’d taken the car apart, including removing and reinstalling the windshield.
I’m writing this now, several months later, because the crack finally spread so far up the windshield that I just spent $ 200 today to get it replaced. Sigh. I’m a little nervous about how the owner might respond, based on his responses to other Unilocal reviews, but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone based on my personal experience.
