I am not sure if Dr. MacLurg is still practicing, because I tried to call his phone and there was a voicemail for a different doctor who didn’t respond with updated information. I met Dr. MacLurg at a professional conference in 2014 and came upon his one other Unilocal review when seeking his contact information. I have not spoken with him recently and this review is unsolicited. My impression of Dr. MacLurg is very different than that of the person who reviewed him so harshly. I am a psychologist in general practice, and like Dr. MacLurg, one of my specialties is helping people with spiritually transformative experiences, such as out-of-body experiences. These are well documented in the professional literature, a spiritual or religious problems are identified in the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association and are assigned a diagnostic code. But this is not all that I do, nor do I believe it is his central focus. My impression of Dr. MacLurg is formed by spending a full day with him and discussing cases. He is a very experienced professional who applies rigorous critical thinking to mental health diagnosis and treatment. Although psychiatrists are often stereotyped as «over-medicating,» I would trust my patients to him. Regarding psychiatric medication in general, as a clinician, more often than not I have seen crises resolved when medication lifted people out of the worst symptoms of mental illness so they could cope with life’s challenges and benefit from psychotherapy. Psychiatric medications can be powerful but are indicated for effective treatment of some mental health conditions, including Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, psychoses, etc. Medications may need to be adjusted, and that requires a patient who collaborates in the process.

Jason has some unusual thoughts about out of body experiences and really poor boundaries. Although he is a kind man he is not a very effective therapist. Like most psychiatrists he over uses medication and has little experience with PTSD or trauma but might be good for young men struggling with intimacy issues. Note: since this is a review of a p-doc I am not using my regular account so it might not make it onto the reviews by Unilocal silly algorithm

Dr. MacLurg is a fantastic physiatrist. His kindness and gentle disposition are just a few reasons why I would highly recommend him.
