Lowercase Brewing

With Georgetown being all the rage, I highly recommend wandering a couple miles south to check out this little gem in South Park. The beer will not disappoint!

Lowercase Brewing provided beer for our 100 person event. They were professional, the beer was great, and the experience working with them was terrific. We’ll definitely work with Lawrence again!

With the Puget Sound area swiftly becoming the nation’s hub for quality craft beers and microbreweries, sometimes it can be hard to find new beers that suite your taste. Luckily there is this new breed of microbreweries that are springing up all over what you might think is just your everyday average neighborhood.
Enter, Lowercase Brewing. My buddy was just driving through the quaint part residential, part industrial neighborhood when he came across this small commercial building with an «A» frame sign out front that just reads BEER. The brewery shares the space with an eclectic stone sculpture artist so the grounds are a bit littered with all sorts of cool sculptures but once you get to the bar and order your first flight of brews, the whole place turns a little magical. These guys are artists in their own right and they use their skills to produce some really great beers as well as cider and shandys. While you are there, you get this comfortable open air patio right next to the «come on into our man-​cave garage where we brew beer» feel. They are only open a few days a week and they don’t stay open late but you won’t regret the time you spend there. If you’re hungry, they do offer a few food items. One is a cutting board covered in delectable dried meats and fruits with cheese and nuts. Another called the land yeager is a delicious dried sausage served with deli mustard. It is a must have! They also have on occasion a small vendor on site offering hot food like hot dogs and such. So far, I’ve only been while the weather is warm and dry and they have a nice large outdoor seating area and that is good because this place fills up. They are available for private parties and they might even take your request for a specialty brew if you’re lucky. I’ve had nothing but good times here and I’ll keep going back as long as they keep brewing their IPA.
A good place to check them out is at the Ballard farmer’s market on weekends. Go by for a sample of the good stuff and then I’m sure I’ll see you at the brewery. Say hi if you recognize me!

Given the rave reviews I will likely try them again, the beer was flat out bad when I was there. They were filling pitchers, storing them in a fridge, and then pouring your beer from the pitcher rather than from the tap, this could be why after trying each of their beers I thought they were all terrible.
I do like beer so my rating may change if the beer does too.
*Update — I tried them again… I will keep trying!

I tried the IPA at Renton farmer’s market. Very good. B they should call the place Uppercase!

Delicious IPA and brown ale that are unique and not overbearing. Everyone at Lowercase is nice and the patrons are chilled out.

great casual place to access the green river trail from and have a beer afterwards! worthy beer at worthy prices. dog friendly too. heads up-​no food. maybe they should have a few food trucks scheduled?

We’ve walked past this place several times, not noticing that it was a brewery. We thought it was just someone with a really nice yard and big house! Silly of us! I got an email from them inviting us to come visit them on a Friday evening because they had another South Park business cooking up salmon sliders and salmon chowder, etc. on their patio. Being local business owners ourselves, we wanted to support them. We came around 6pm on a Friday and people were standing out on the patio as well as sitting indoors. The inside is pretty small, so be prepared to sit outside if need be. They brew their own beer and we’re not huge beer drinkers, but Lawrence was very helpful in helping us decide which beer to get. He gave us samples of all the beer they had on tap and we liked them all! We told him to surprise us. The beer is well-​priced and the staff is extremely friendly and personable. They also have board games on hand if you want to play. They serve a few bar snacks, but don’t come here looking for food unless they have the salmon cooking out back (which is delicious by the way. You have to try the chowder!).
Lawrence mentioned he was going to start having some comedy nights every other Thursday or something like that, so that’s something to look into, as well. This place is within walking distance of our house and right near the Duwamish River, so this is a great place to come in the summer! Can’t wait! I’m so glad to have something like this in South Park. It’s turning into such a dirty neighborhood and we need businesses like this! Love, love, love it!!!

Wow, what a unique setting for a brewery. Evidently there is another brewery in this building which will reopen its taproom soon. Right now, though, Lowercase is holding down the fort admirably.
They’re on 8^th, which, through here, is a quiet and tree-​lined street in an area that you might naturally associate more with industry than you do with tidy little houses. But there are definitely tidy little houses through here – blocks and blocks of them. Nice setting.
This particular building is a rough-​hewn cinder block warehouse, two stories. There’s a bunch of big equipment in the building next door, but most structures around here are homes. The building next door seems to be some sort of stonemason doing decorative work – there are a TON of gorgeous polished stones in the front yard: benches, pillars, odalisques, flagstones. Really pretty work, often partly polished and partly natural. It’s kind of a showroom for next door, but it gives the brewery a neat feeling as you walk in.
The rusty sign over the door is pretty, and the logo shows up again on stickers and pint glasses. The taproom is nice, with scattered tables, big bar, and roughed-​in bathrooms around behind the bar. It’s solidly constructed, but it was built as a warehouse, rather than a taproom.
Unfortunately, the beers are kind of a mess; we tried five and couldn’t get with any of them between the three of us. The brown was probably the better of the bunch. Lots of breweries go through a year or two of scaling their recipes and dialing their QA when they are new, so this is not a total shock. I look forward to hearing good things as they come up, and returning for a retry.

This place is super cool! Our group loved the relaxed vibe– think lesser known Portland breweries with big outdoor spaces where you can hang out and play games.
The beers are pretty good. The IPA has a sour kick to it which I was really digging. The Mexican lager is tasty and resembled an improved Negro Modelo sans metallic aftertaste. The people running the place were super friendly and went out of their way to b.s. with us and show us some of their operation. I hope Mount Rainier doesn’t blow up anytime soon because as soon as the mudflow settles, I’ll be in South Park with a shovel ready to pillage some kegs of that IPA.

I first checked out the delicious brews of Lowercase Brewing a couple months after they opened their tasting room and have been raving about it since. I have never had a bad beer here. They also made me a believer of not only Mexican Lagers and Shandy. Whoever thought shandy could actually be good??? With that being said my favorite beers here are easily the mEXICAN lager and the eSB.
The owner is a really nice guy and worked with me to setup a private tour and opening up his tasting room on an off day for a meetup group I help co-​organize. I have also seen him support charity beer events like Room For Reads Beer for books event over the summer. All in all it’s great beer and a great local business. Though South Park is a schlep for many of us, it’s really worth it!

I really love the feel of this place and the beer is great (especially the brown ale). Pints are cheap at $ 4 but growler fills could be cheaper. All in all a great spot for South Park residents, I just moved here and feel lucky to have this close by. The bartender said their looking into serving food in the future, hope that happens!

Really like this place. They have excellent beer on tap. They have some beers that are regularly on tap and then they have seasonals as well. I had the summer shandy, so good! Summer is perfect for the outside area, the indoor space is small, but nice. Would highly recommend!

The main reason why I was in the South park area was to try Lowercase Brewing and little did I know there would be two more new breweries to try out as well!
The setup and staff are totally cool with a nice outside patio to relax while you drink your beer!
I got the Brown Ale which tasted wonderful! I did not get more than one beer here because there was plenty of trying out while we were in this part of town.
Steve got a Pale Ale which was also very good!
No hesitation here. I want to go back!

AWESOME beers and great space for a brewery! Chris, Lawrence & Eric are all great — very welcoming… they will talk to you about beer as much as you want to listen (which is a lot for me). :) Small, cozy space, but very cool décor and they have a great variety of drinks (some food options too). Check it out!

Have you ever walked into a bar and felt instantly welcomed? Well if you haven’t stop on in. Here is a place that is an up and coming brewery in South Seattle. Small tap room with a wonderful staff who want nothing more then to impress you with the quality of their beer. Well I’ve been impressed and love love love their beer!

Lowercase is just good beer (and root beer and ginger ale). Not fancy. Not pretentious. Accessible, friendly, laid back, open to suggestions for improvement (which aren’t much needed, frankly). Family friendly, dog friendly, neighborhood friendly.
Full disclosure: I love these guys so much I volunteer as a «brewista» whenever I have time. It’s just that kind of place.

I love this place! Fun people, great beer and laid back atmosphere. I’m so excited for the summer when they plan to have a fire pit and live music outside on the patio.
My favorite beer is the Stout. It’s not usually my go-​to style, but they double ferment with whole vanilla beans which gives it a smoother finish. I could drink it all night– usually do!

Great brewery and great people! The ambience is awesome — Industrial, rustic, reclaimed… The space is cozy but has a garage-​style door that opens up to a large patio area (it’ll be awesome in the Summer!). The brewery is available to host events, as well!
We were given the opportunity to help Chris, Eric, and Lawrence organize their grand opening events and it was great! These guys put a lot of work into making sure the beer is good and the brewery is welcoming. If you don’t stay for the beer (which you will), you’ll at least stay for the people and the atmosphere.

Ambiance. Industrial, just like the neighborhood. It feels like you’re hanging out in a friend’s basement or garage. It feels exclusive, without being stuffy.
Service. Impeccable. These guys are energetic and passionate. They made me feel really good for just walking in the door!
Beer. I had the pale ale and my companion had an IPA. We’re hardcore Northwesterners, so we didn’t care for their IPA. They are striving for something more sessionable and less hoppy, and they did just that. Unfortunately for us, that’s not the IPA flavor profile we enjoy. Nothing to complain about with their pale ale…
They also had ESB on tap (didn’t try it), they do a flight of tasters for a reasonable price, and they were finishing up a Farmer’s Market brew that is sourced from local providers.
