Lion Heart Book Store

This place is just beautiful. There will never be a used bookstore that compares to this place, because none of those places will have David! He recited poetry from the African American book of poetry we bought for $ 3, which was new. He sang and made Trump jokes and entertained the hell out of everyone that walked in. We bought 3 books and 2 records for a grand total of $ 27. This place holds all the most amazing and hidden treasures and it was possibly the best part of our trip, I could’ve stayed in that place forever!

Stopping by this little bookstore may have been the highlight of my trip to seattle. Our first day walking around Pike Place Market, I was amazed at just how friendly and welcoming Seattle-​ites are. They smile, say hello, ask if you need any help, but the owner of this bookstore here takes the cake.
As soon as we walked in he started to sing to us. Normally, I don’t frequent bookstores and my New Yorker mentality told me to get in and out of a place, especially when someone starts singing. But it was wonderful. We had wonderful banter as he talked us through books and spoke lines of poetry from Rumi, telling us about the world and people visiting in and out. Had I not been travelling with a small bag, I would’ve bought the whole store. It was quirky, it was fun, and overall it was educational on the basic humanity that lies in all of us. Even if you are not a book person, there are little knick knacks, comics, postcards to purchase and the simple contagious joyful energy of the owner is worth a visit.

This bookstore was wonderful! The owner was hilarious and jovial and made the shopping experience amazing. Good range of prices.

I’d say by far the best thing about Lion heart (besides the great selection) is David! I was there about 5 months ago with my then girlfriend, now wife, and he made a great day even better! From his extremely kind demeanor, to his singing to customers… if you hit up pikes place, go see David! That guy’s awesome!

As a resident of the nieghborhood it is wonderful to find a store that has achieved the right balance between the locals and the tourists. The selection is eclectic, ranging from vintage children’s books to violins. The own has a wide range of knowlage on books, arts, is well traveled and can spontaneously
break out into song os give an impromptu poetry recital. I found a book that has been long out of print and had only seen on Amazon for 50.00.and paid 11. oo $.

Such a cute shop with an owner so charming that you’ll laugh the whole time. Amazing prices on classics and paperbacks! Love this place!
Wonderfully curated collection of children’s books, massive quantities of sci fi and mystery paperbacks, classics, postcards, and did I mention the hilarious, charming fellow who runs the place?
I got a book of Rumi poems for under $ 5 and a stuffed Wheedle for under $ 12!

All were amplified by the fact that David was cheerful, warm, and spouting poetry/​songs on and off with everyone… and I didn’t even have a chance to converse during my perusal. He took great pride in everything about books and his shop!

David is a gem. I go all the way downtown to the market to wander through the stacks, but more so just to talk to him. Brought some out of town visitors there just to meet him. He’s got a great selection at good prices.

My favorite bookstore in Seattle. David keeps you thoroughly entertained. I bring most of my out of town visitors to the store just to watch him in his element.

I was not going to leave Pike Place until I found this book store.
I do not have a map of Pike Place stores and eateries tattooed to my heart… yet. With my limited knowledge, I knew I would have to venture to the lower level of the market. One level down and across the ways from a Chinese restaurant, display windows filled with books welcomed my searching eyes. It was a phenomenal sight in my brief moments delight.
I found it.
Typically, the science fiction section envelopes me in its familiar embrace of artificial intelligence, space travel, and alien encounters. To expand my literary adventures, I sought the advice of a helpful gentleman who directed me to Kurt Vonnegut’s «The Sirens of Titan». Just like that, SOLD! He was ecstatic at my instant approval of his recommendation, albeit, a little skeptical as well.
As I told him: If I like it, I’ll be back. Stay tuned…

I stopped in Seattle on a long road trip, and was looking for things to do. The name Lion Heart and the reviews on Unilocal intrigued me. A fan of hole in the wall bookstores to climb into, I went on the hunt for this hidden gem. It was hard to find, and I almost gave up. But by chance, I wandered in. As soon as I arrived, David welcomed me with a warm smile, and asked me my name and my passions. I told him songwriting. Struck by his sweet and genuine interest, I asked for a book recommendation. He paused for a moment, and said, «For you, O Pioneers! Right over there.» David then asked me what I thought the song of my generation was, pen at the ready to write my response down. Being an important question, I said I had to think about it. He mentioned how past visitors write him postcards, showing me one he just received with a picture of a Grecian island. Pressed for time, I said I’d have to send a postcard from Texas with my response.
The Lion Heart Book Store is a truly awesome place, run by a caring individual. This place helped Seattle leave an impression on me. If you’re into quirky stuff, thoughtful conversation, and good people, go here. You won’t regret it.

Thank you for your book suggestions, David. I finished «The Alchemist» and I’m working on «The Stranger», which I never would have read, if you hadn’t introduced them to me. I very much enjoy going to Lion Heart Book Store every time I’m in Seattle.

Like almost all of the other reviews, I’m in love with the owner who is just a delight. I first came in when visiting home last summer and broke my ‘I only buy books I’ve already read’ rule because I enjoyed chatting with him so much. He recommended ‘The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao’, which I enjoyed reading on my flight home. On my last visit this past week I made a point of coming back in to chat and found a book that I was trying to buy, so that was perfect. The selection here is fairly limited, it’s stronger on the classics than anything else — but at a used book store the experience can matter so much more!

Adding my two-​cents-​worth to the already stellar reviews. How can you not love a bookstore when the owner sings to you, makes you feel wonderful, prompts you to finish the next line of a poem (I felt like I had passed a test!), and has a wonderful and intelligent conversation about the books you are buying?

My good friend Sharon and I noticed this store simply ’cause of the creepy dolls in the window and a few inside. You walk in and realize that this is actually a really cool book store. The guy who runs the place is very animated, engaging and very sweet. He had a good sense of humor about his puppets. He put a smile on Sharon and I’s face.

David greeted us with a song and his knowledge of literature. He was stoked to know that I’m a middle school English teacher and that I’m visiting from DC. We came in the bookstore because of the book, everybody farts. I ended up buying a couple of books from him just cause he was so enjoyable and of course, I love books. I will definitely come back next time I visit Seattle.

Certainly the first book store I’ve ever visited where a few minutes into browsing, I turn and find the owner serenading my wife. It’s less creepy than it sounds; the guy is so ridiculously friendly that you can’t help but leave with a smile on your face. When you add in bona fide quality selections from this fun little spot, more than reasonable prices, and the aforementioned atmosphere, you’ve got a destination book store next time I find myself back in the market. Any chance to hang out with such a remarkable fellow, as far as I’m concerned.

David, the caretaker of the bookstore, is absolutely delightful and a true joy to meet. The bookstore is small but carries a lot of steals if you spend the time to look through it. It’s one of those small stores that makes you feel giddy and all good inside after giving it a quick walkthrough. But of course, David plays a huge part in this! You’ll probably find him singing a tune or telling a tale or giving you a quick life lesson.
PRO TIP: There are these adorable notebooks with cute little inspiring quotes in them on the spinning stands. You’ll probably want to buy one… or a couple to take home to your friends! Great gifts.

I stumbled upon this bookstore as I was waiting for my old lady to finish using the restroom (yes, it’s right next to the book store). This bookstore is hidden beneath the market itself. What caught my eyes were all those books that I remembered reading as a kid, like Where’s Waldo, and The Berenstain Bears book series. The gentleman working behind the counter, which I assume is the owner, was super friendly. He told us all the different names of «Where’s Waldo» in different places in the world. He was just super friendly. Even though I didn’t buy a book (which I regret now), he was super nice and engaging.
I will definitely come back and visit him on my next Seattle visit!

What can I say… let’s see… how about BEST BOOKSTORE OWNER I’VE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN MY LIFE. This man is the sweetest most genuine person I’ve met at Pike Place. His shop is located downstairs of Pike Place, and he always has a smile on his face. He just instantly makes everyone happy. He is all about positivity and positive behavior. He can make conversation with anyone and you will not regret talking with him. I would go back to his store just to talk to him. He has a lot of books for great prices. Sale books are $ 1.75. And they are newer books, too. Unlike many stores who put their unsellables as sale books. I wanted to buy a few books, but I was broke and didn’t have any money. I was really tired before coming into his shop, but his smile and positive energy really picked me up.
VISIT HIS SHOP. You won’t regret it.
