Life Float

Wow. Wow.
My float experience at LifeFloat was magical, powerful. I was hesitant at first — alone in a dim room with my thoughts for an hour? I went in feeling weary and heavy and annoyed with the world. I left feeling light, joyful, and (as the kind man who worked there remarked) radiantly smiling.
First of all, this place is luxe. I have tried another float place, and it was nice too, but LifeFloat is more of a spa experience. All the little touches — the beautiful architecture and lighting, the luxurious fluffy towels, the tea, the open room (as opposed to the enclosed tank).
The Epson salt enables you to float right on top, and once you allow yourself to believe you won’t sink, all the stress and tension leaves your body. The dim lighting and utter quiet is primordial and lovely. I suffer from chronic neck pain, and not hurting for an hour was a religious experience.
Once the thoughts dissipate, it is truly lovely to watch your mind and heartbeat slow and quiet. Something in me was saying to me: «be kind to yourself, be kinder.»
I frequent spas and receive regular massage therapy, but this is a step beyond that. I definitely will be a regular here.

Out of all the float places I’ve adventured to, thus far in my life, this place has been my favorite!
I was doubtful when I saw the area I would be floating in. But then all the calming lights, darkness, and low sounds impressed me a great deal!
If you are going to try floating, I would suggest you visit Life Float!

One of Katie’s (my daughter) Christmas gifts was a coupon to experience «Life Float». Life Float is a new business in Seattle which provides the experience of sensory deprivation by floating in an isolation tank. According to Wikipedia, an isolation tank is a lightless, soundproof tank inside which subjects (moi) float in salt water at skin temperature. They were first used by John C. Lilly in 1954 to test the effects of sensory deprivation. Such tanks are now also used for meditation and relaxation and in alternative medicine. At Life Float the tanks are more like large rectangular tanks without any lids.
So off we went to Life Float which is located right across from REI’s Flagship store in Seattle. We first waited in the lobby listening to soothing new age music for about 10 minutes. Then a staff member took us to our individual float tank rooms. The staff locks you all by your lonesome in the room which contains a toilet, a sink, a shower and, the main attraction, a large float tank filled with salty water which ensures you float with no effort.
The temperature of the water and the relative air in the room is at or near your body temperature so there is no sensory difference between the water and the air. On the tank’s edge is a spritzer to spray water in your face in case salt water gets into your eyes, a hand towel, ear plugs and cylindrical floaties to use as a neck support or support for those people with well-​nourished booties.
The staff suggests to go «au naturel» into the tank after taking a shower since wearing a bathing suit provides some sensory input. After I took a shower I was ready to take the plunge. So there I was naked as a jay bird, buck ass naked, wearing only a smile as I plunged into the water.
I immediately began to float. For support I used a floatie under my neck. Soothing music started to play and the computerized experience dimed the lights to a low glow. I started to relax and let the soothing music envelope over and surround me. However, I could feel the floatie, so I removed the floatie from under my neck to experience total sensory deprivation.
Another five minutes I was back to my relaxed state of being. The decreasing volume of the music further lulled me into a deeper state of relaxation into an almost comatose state. The music changed to softly crashing waves on the beach. The sounds of the waves and the lighting diminished into barely audible sound and an ever so slight glow. Then there was no sound and no light, just complete darkness. I descended into total soporific inertia. I drifted into a single dimension and now I was one with my surroundings. Total darkness. Total quiet. Total relaxation. Total spirituality. Total peace. Life is good!
Suddenly in the total darkness I felt something rub against my neck as if something is trying to bite me in the total darkness. It is small, strange, nefarious, demonic, unworldly!
Now my momma didn‘t raise an idiot!
My quick, logical, steady, non-​emotional mind deduced it must be that little monster in the «Alien» movie that pops out of your chest. I also immediately concluded the Life Float must be front for alien abductions. Those aliens are smart and sly, locating a front right across from the flagship REI store. I no longer thought that I was floating in salt water. My lightning fast reasoning concluded that I was really in salty chicken broth being slow cooked in a pressure cooker in total darkness.
Since I did not want the little slimy monster to wrap around my face, I began to flail all around the tank in my birthday suit, trying to find that little monster. The indignity of it all being in the buff, skinny dipping in chicken broth.
Being in complete darkness, it was a near impossible task to find that face sucking, chest popping critter. But with unrelenting tenacity, I finally found it and was able to wrap my hands around its scrawny neck to squeeze the very life out of it.
After a brief struggle, I finally realized that the little alien was just my floatie that I took from under my neck. Feeling much relieved that I was not going to be an Alien’s lunch, I settled down, resumed my normal composure and began to float again in the salty water.
It took me another 5 minutes to relax, but for the next 20 minutes I was able to enjoy the whole experience of sensory deprivation. I have to admit. It was an extremely enjoyable, relaxing and, more importantly, I highly recommend Life Float to anyone. No worries, there are no chest popping aliens in the water, just my overactive imagination.
Sans my imaginary aliens, I can highly recommend Life Float to all my friends. If you want to give all of your tension, stress and frayed nerves a vacation from daily life, Life Float really works. The experience will totally relax you and make you anew to face life’s craziness. It is worth the money. I felt re-​energized after the experience. Try it, you will definitely love it. I know I will.

I was gifted an hour-​long float for Christmas. Having never floated before and being unsure of how I’d take to the experience, I was glad that LifeFloat offers pools instead of tanks. I went in for a morning float last week. I was immediately impressed by the wonderful service and clean facility. As you float, the music transitions from a serene soundtrack to ocean sounds, to silence. The lights also dim to complete darkness. I was worried I’d wig out with the lack of sound and light but I ended up having an incredibly relaxing experience. I felt slight tensions in my neck and back as I relaxed, almost like getting your spine realigned or something… and by the time I was done floating my back felt better than it has in months. Highly recommend! I live in San Diego and can’t find anything like LifeFloat here so I’ll have to keep coming in when I’m in the PNW!

This was my first «floating» experience and it was much better than I expected. The private room was a welcome retreat and the owners have done a great job anticipating the needs of their clients. The space is very serene and calming and staff were helpful to a first-​timer. I thought I would get bored or anxious but instead I was totally relaxed and the time flew by. The only thing that I might have asked for was for the room to be just a few degrees warmer, but I run on the cold side, and the temps were still totally comfortable. I would also recommend watching their emailed intro video so that you can take full advantage of all the special features they have built into the space. The float was a lovely break from the cold and hectic world outside!

This place is awesome. Had never been floating before and wasn’t really expecting much, but my workplace had gotten free coupons for the opening so I figured I might as well give it a shot. I couldn’t believe how much the experience alleviated neck pain I’d been having, and I’m definitely going to go back. The private room is great, the lighting effects are so cool, the music is so relaxing. The staff was also super nice and friendly. :)

I tried floating a couple of years ago, and it wasn’t as relaxing as I had imagined it to be. When lifefloat sent out a special offer I decided to try again to see if my expectations were set too high. It turns out they were not. I left lifefloat a few minutes ago, and I feel great. The facility is warm, clean, quiet, professional and most important comfortable. The staff was friendly, and walked me through the procedure, and the light and music controls.
You get a private room/​bathroom, with a shower that leads to the float room. You have a choice of subdued lighting or absolute (really) darkness, and music/​ocean sounds or quiet. Then it’s in the water and you’re on your own for an hour. At the end the lights come on (or turn pink if they’re already on), and ocean waves turn into soft music. That’s your cue that you’re done.
Shower with a nice shampoo and conditioner, if you need more time they have a room with a hair dryer where you can freshen up, and then water or tea, and you are ready to tackle the world.
Since they’re new, the multi-​float packages are priced very competitively. They even offer an unlimited membership, if you really like to float, it can’t be beat.

I’m not a floating expert, this was only the second time I’ve done a float. It felt very luxurious! You have your own private room with everything you need: shower, toilet, sink, stool, towels, earplugs. The showers have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They also have a small squeeze bottle of diluted vinegar to clean your ears out after you’re done. The spray bottle and hand towel on the edge of the pool are very important in case you get salt water in your eyes. The pool is very large, like the size of a full-​size bed, so you have lots of room. Soft LED lights and music in the pool eventually go away to complete darkness and soft beach sounds. The pool has a big squishy button on one of the walls that, if you push it, turns on the LED control panel, and you can control the lights and sound at any time. Five minutes before the end of the session, the lights and music slowly come back up. Nice shower and fluffy towels. You really don’t need to bring anything but yourself. You only have 10 minutes after the end of float to shower and dress, but there’s another room with brighter lights and a big mirror where you can finish getting ready. It also has a hair dryer. The waiting area is very nice and soothing. The staff was excellent, incredibly friendly and helpful. If floating is your thing, this is the place to go!

Can’t say enough good things about this float center. I travel a lot and try and go to as many different centers around the country as possible. This is by far my favorite so far. Great customer service. love the large open tank concept, if someone is a bit nervous about traditional tanks and feeling claustrophobic this is a good way to ease into the concept. The music was perfect and great that you had control over the volume. The lighting was also pretty cool and very relaxing. I also appreciated that this is the only one I have been to so far that has a toilet in the room. Nice feature to have. I can’t wait to go back.

I visited Life Float during its opening, thanks to my real-​life friend Brody, who introduced me to this place. Thank goodness! I have had arthritis in both knees, since childhood, and every day of my life I am in pain due to the inflammation of those joints. My pain DISAPPEARED during my float, and I could feel the effects for DAYS afterward!
The knowledgeable and friendly staff made me feel comfortable and welcomed, as well as educated about floating (as a newbie to the experience). They familiarized me with their sleek, state-​of-​the-​art light and sound controls, and the safety features of the pool. I’ve never seen a facility anything like this, very thoughtfully-​designed. It’s one-​of-​a-​kind, in consideration of the other float spas in the area.
Nice features I wasn’t expecting:
— Auto-​locking door for each chamber, for a soundproof and absolutely private experience. As a trauma survivor, the privacy was so comforting, and made me feel very safe to be there.
— The bathroom/​changing area in privacy, in the same room as the shower and float pool, was incredibly luxurious.
— Thoughtful things like ear plugs, bottle of water for re-​hydrating, and a spray bottle of fresh water by the pool (in case you get salt water in your eyes).
— Intercoms to contact the front desk if needed
— Auto-​dimming diffused lighting with color-​changing LEDs
— motion sensors just outside the pool, in case you exit the pool without turning the light on (it will turn on automatically)
— The tub auto-​filled with fresh water (and epsom salts of course) when I arrived to the chamber, and then auto-​drained after my float ended.
— Touch screen controls from poolside (for lights and sound).
If it weren’t for the pool design, instead of a tank, I may have felt too claustrophobic to enjoy it. The pool was big enough that I could almost spread-​eagle inside it! I felt so comfortable I almost fell asleep in the pool!
Just a couple of days later, I took up their offer of a monthly membership, and I’m floating again this week! I can’t recommend this place highly enough! If you suffer from chronic pain, floating may cause you to enjoy life again!

World class floating experience. This place is in a league of its own. You are in a wide open pool with full control over your environment: adjust your lighting and sound to perfection. Every detail is thought of: a spray bottle and towel next to you in case you get salt in your eyes, vinegar to dissolve the salt in your ears afterwards. My mom said it made her feel 10 years younger, dissolving tension and pain. I deeply relaxed and felt rejuvenated. Wonderful staff who make you feel welcome and comfortable.

Best float facility in Seattle by far! The private rooms were very nice and the technology was unlike any float chamber I have been in. I didn’t feel claustrophobic at all and the employees were extremely informative and welcoming. Shoutout to Brody for being awesome!

**spacious tubs with lots of extra room– you can fully stretch out!
**the tub drains at the end so the tub can be cleaned– so awesome
**a touch screen where you can adjust the lights, sound and I think you can hook up your phone to it
**the whole room is lit with blue in the beginning then changes to let you know that the tub is ready to go then when you are finished the colors turn on again and changes to pink to let you know you are finished.
