This market also features some great ready-​to-​eat and take-​home foods made with local farm ingredients.

History

Established in 2002.

This market was started in 2002, and until 2008 was located in the parking lot next to the Lake City fire station. SInce 2008, the market is now located in Albert Davis park, just a cople of blocks away from the old location. The new location offers more room for vendors, plus a childrens’ play are and a grassy park. Northend residents love coming to the market to stock up on farm-​fresh goodies for the weekend, and there are some great ready-​to-​eat foods as well.

Manager

The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (NFMA) is a community-​based organization developed in response to the growing popularity and public support of the neighborhood Farmers Markets in Seattle. The NFMA’s mission is to support Washington’s small farms and farming families by providing effective direct sales sites for our region’s small farmers, and by educating consumers about local farm products and the benefits of buying direct from local farmers. The NFMA is a non-​profit 501 (c) 3 corporation registered with the State of Washington and the federal government. We believe preserving local farmland and maintaining healthy local food systems is essential to our health, our environment and future.

Stopped by today and this market is small, but had a good variety of things to choose from.
I saw berries, fresh flowers, roasted nuts, cheese, bread, pastries (european and german), fresh produce, eggs, meats, a coffee stand, a snack stand offering quesadillas and tamales, and a couple other things I can’t name off the top of my head.
Price wise, as other reviewers have mentioned, it is a tad pricey. We took a look around and the cheapest berries were 2 for $ 6 (which is fairly cheap), but when we ate them, many of them weren’t the best quality.
Otherwise, it’s a nice little spot to check out, but as far as buying produce and fruit here, I would probably head to the local fresh produce market instead. Most stands here are cash only, which kinda of sucks for those who don’t carry around cash or don’t bank at BOA (there’s one next door).
They did have a good selection of various breads and pastries which were reasonably priced and that I want to try out next time. Another plus, everyone is friendly here.
Also, I didn’t realize this before we walked into the market, but if you drive in pass the «local access only» sign on the north end, you can actually park in the garage of the Lake city public library while shopping.

Does not have the selection you would find at the U District, W Seattle or Ballard farmers markets, but good selection none-​the-​less. Nice to have it so close to home and I wish it was year round since I can generally make it over on Thursdays. I have a hard time spending as much on produce as it costs here but its nice to have a place to buy product directly from the farm, and some things are a great deal at the market (like fresh basil).

I’ve went twice to the LC Farmers Market and as much as I wanted to like it, I found that it was really difficult to strettttch my $ 20 that I had allotted for fresh local produce. Hoping to snag ample fresh veggies and fruits, I kind of grimaced when all my $ 20 bought me was 1 bag of produce. I kind of felt jipped.
Produce was okay and I love supporting local farmers. However, I was disappointed that a pint of strawberries were $ 4.50 and they started to wilt about a day after purchase.

Lake City’s farmers market on Thursdays in the summer. A little smaller then some of the other markets. I usually head straight for the honey stand. Then wounder around and pick up what I need.

This was the first farmer’s market I have attended since moving back from California. It seems like a huge rip off quite frankly. I always thought farmers markets were a place farmers and other vendors could have a low overhead so as to make it a good value for everyone. Are the people who organize the event charging the vendors too much or what?
Half the vendors were very friendly the other half not so much. We spent almost 50 dollars and had little to show for it. I like supporting local farmers and vendors but Trader joes is a better value for me in this economy.

The Lake City Farmers Market was one of the best things about living in that neighborhood. I’ve moved south now (thank goodness!), but I’ll still stop by on Thursdays if I’m nearby (especially if I’ve missed the Columbia City one the day before). The market is open from 3 – 7.
This is one of the smaller neighborhood markets in Seattle: just a single «L» of stands. The dead-​end can make for a bit of crowding. There aren’t a lot of extras, like the live music or the cooking demonstrations. But they’ve got all the basics: a variety of produce, the juice (and cute juice girl), the flowers, the wine that I wish we could sample, some eggs and cheese and meat, and the adorable neighborhood hippie families out in force.
Parking can be a problem, but I usually hike over from the QFC or Fred Meyer, where I pay my space rental by buying something non-​seasonal, non-​local and non-​organic. You know, for balance.

When we first moved here, I was at this Farmer’s Market almost every week. It was within walking distance of a friend’s house, and it made the perfect excuse to get together.
It has a nice family vibe to it, and the salmon guys rock! My friend would loyally buy cheese curds here, and the flowers were always amazing. I also bought great fruit here — both dried and fresh.
On the downside, my mother once bought what she called «the most goddamned expensive tomato I’ve ever bought in my LIFE» here (oh yeah, did I mention that she said that in a loud voice while we were still at the market?)
Most things are pricey but you get what you pay for (it was a good tomato but our homegrown ones — now that we’ve been here a year — are much better).
I would still say head on down if you get the chance!

One of the best things about this market is the timing. Held on Thursdays from 3 to 7, it’s so easy to swing by after work for fresh produce for dinner. The earlier you go the harder it is to find parking near, but the walk is worth it when you make it to the stalls. Plenty of choices and good fresh produce.
