I love this place! The fried calamari and veggie nachos are super delicious, and there’s free pool. The pool table has always been open when I’ve gone.

Free shuffleboard, half decent sausage rolls, unique building, good selection of inexpensive booze and a big patio… you can’t ask much more from a solid drinking hole. I definitely want to come back and have a drink outside in the warm when summer rolls around. See you soon Kangaroo and Kiwi.

Was only there for a beer but it was a great place to hang out before the night began, great priced beer. Worth stopping by and perfect for a large party that likes to drink. A little divey but I enjoy those types of places form time to time, seem to be more fun.

Great Sports Bar! The staff is super friendly and funny, tasty food and delicious drinks! I appreciate the very casual vibe. Good daily food specials.

The owner should never, ever, ever be given a microphone again. The stupid bastard yelled over the mic through the PA for going on 30 solid minutes now. Not only does he have an incredibly annoying voice — he also has the worst stereo system in Ballard. Seriously man, start a radio station if you want to hear yourself talk.

I love Kangaroo & Kiwi! I love how close it is to home(and the bus lines), I love their food and beverage selections, I love being able to pop in here and play trivia and/or games(a few nights ago we did both at the same time), I love how they have several friendly staff that are actually Aussies and Kiwis; one of whom is an ahhhhmazing glass blower when she’s not working here. This place FEELS good inside. There are three connecting spaces in here, each with their own things that keep it interesting. There is outdoor seating available as well, which is currently lit up with colorful Christmas lights. I was told they change up the menu from time to time. When we came in, they happened to be serving pasties(Whaaaat?) and Shepard’s pie, which are apparently were special just for that night. The pasties were SOOO flaky and good. I wolfed mine! This is a great place to meet up with friends in downtown Ballard. I wouldn’t recommend it for a date unless you get here early enough to grab a table or come after their nightly activities have ended, as seating fills up fast here and it can get quite packed!

I love going here! My co-worker and I went to this place randomly to kill some time before going to see a movie next door. We got some fries and wings and oh man! We fell in love! The fries were great and came with the classic ma poy sweet chili sauce and the wings were naked with a side of ranch and hot buffalo sauce. The wings were so crispy, which I’m not accustomed to all the time. The service both the times I’ve been there has been great! When my co-worker and I had to cut our dinner short for our movie, she efficiently closed out our tabs and got us out of there in no time! I definitely will be coming back especially for the all you can eat wings on mondays! :)

5 star as a bar 0 stars as a restaurant. The wings and pot pie were some of the worst things I’ve eaten in recent memory. The 12 dollar meat pie was the size of hot pocket but tasted much worse than one.

I love my K&K happy hours! To all the whiney people out there who complain about the food… IT’S PUBFOOD. Just go away. What this place does provide is a lot of FUN, stiff drinks, great service and a great atmosphere.

We’d been meaning to try this pub for quite a while, since it’s conveniently located so close to the Majestic Bay movie theater. They had a nice enough tap list of beers, and a good variety of bottled ciders. Having been to Melbourne earlier this year, we were excited to take our taste buds down memory lane — so we ordered a meat pie and chicken parma. Unfortunately, the pie was under seasoned and overbaked. The parma was the better of the two, but just missing something in the flavor department. Confusingly, there’s a DJ and music on Saturday nights. On the upside, if you’re looking for a sports bar in central Ballard, this is your place. It’s got lots of rooms with ample TVs, and it’s well equipped for soccer, rugby, and even baseball!

The bar is really cool and the drinks/food are on par. However, a group of us went here for trivia on a Wednesday night and it was not great. The announcer was extremely hard to understand, spoke very fast and was not too excited about repeating questions or answering any confusion at the end of each round. The trivia was so specific and hard and not what we had in mind at all. I would recommend the bar but definitely not going to this trivia night again.

I would definitely come here again! Came on a Saturday afternoon to watch the WSU football game and it was CROWDED! But they knew their crowd and covered the pool table to make a table. One thing I must say is that the place was wall to wall with people, but it never took more than a few minutes to get a drink refill or a food order placed! Wonderful character in this old building and great patio seating(although it was too cold outside and no TVs). Maybe it’s just me, but the restroom looked like it could use a bit of scrubbing. Although, I get it, dive bar, so it’s not like I had high expectations. Would definitely come back on a slower night!

I’m sure this place offers a fun and lively nighttime bar and some decent beer but other than that I can imagine what it is that brings customers here or keeps them coming back. We had a gift card and being in the area decided to give it a try for lunch. We walked in and weren’t sure if we should seat ourselves or wait. We stood for a moment and then walked into one of the side rooms to find a table. The first thing I noticed was that it smelled like urine. Next thing I noticed was how dirty the tables(actually entire place) were. We still decided to give it a try. The place was pretty busy so we figured the food must be good. We waited for awhile but seeing no server we got up and went to the bar. Orders should be placed there. We grabbed some menus, which were also very dirty and ordered spicy chook sandwiches. The bartender was in such a rush that she walked away before we finished ordering and told us the price right away. I asked a few questions about drinks but I felt rushed so just went with water and paid. We sat back down and waited for the food. The sandwiches were not unique in any way and lacked in taste. I didn’t find anything spicy about them. Overall the food, service and place were just not good. The food left me feeling unwell and seriously disappointed. This is definitely not a place I would ever return to.

Stopped by twice on our Friday night pub crawl. Had a few pints of cider and enjoyed the outside seating. The bartenders are very nice, fast and fun. The food looked good so might get some food next time.

I give this place 2 stars based on the location… badass historic building. A few nice staff, and a decent selection of brews. –Historic Building is awesome!!! –Beer selection is decent, though nothing to write home about. –food.meh, Applebee’s nachos at best :( …the service… ha. The guy told me they don’t serve, you order it all from the bar the first time I went. Not busy at the time and I’ve seen staff attend to guests in and outside the place. Lame but whatever. The bartender who helped me today was well… pretty bad. 1st experience: I was helped(kinda) by a rather distracted gentleman bartender. I had to ask to pay for my beer after almost 10min STANDING at an EMPTY bar. Second and last experience: Today’s server was, well… pretty bad! I had to wait over 20 min from ordering my beer to get s menu. Luckily, another sever I flagged down(I am sitting right at the damn bar) was willing to provide one after asking. …after a rather sad …(thankfully on HH pricing, otherwise this would be a longer yet review of their) mediocre nachos. *Hint; try putting your nachos on something larger than a sushi plate! Um, nachos are messy!!! …a very nice blond server I was able to flag down told my surly server that I wished to pay my bill. Perhaps if I had one of the other bartenders it might have been a better experience. Ballard has LOTS of other options! Doubt I’ll give this place a third attempt.

It might be a marvelous pub at night, but we were there at the wrong time, wrong restaurant for a wrong meal. My family was looking for a restaurant for lunch when we noticed this big old red brick building on the street. A public library turned into a restaurant? Cool and we got to try it out. Besides, we never tried Australia food before so it’s something new. The place turned out to be a pub though it serves brunch. However at lunch time there were only two waitress for the whole pub, and kitchen is quite slow in preparing lunch. Meanwhile, seems not much customers mind the serving speed because they were all sipping beer, chatting and playing board games. It’s more like a gathering place rather than restaurant. BTW, they got tons of board games. The food was close to British cuisine, and tasted about average. My kid loved his sausage and mashed potato, while my wife’s burger was nothing special. I and a friend ordered meat pie, which is exactly like the meat pie from British restaurant. The meat pie looks cold but really really hot inside so be careful eating it. The taste was OK but again, nothing exciting. Meanwhile, they got quite a list for beer and hard ciders. Unfortunately, we need to drive to other places right after lunch so we didn’t order any of them. After this meal, I feel that I need to visit here again at a Fri or Sat night, with bunch of friends drink beer while watching a soccer game. Big room, huge choice of beer and snack food, it’s a nice pub. However, it’s not a good place for family lunch.

This place is a strange, yet decent place for small groups, for a weeknight. By small group, no bigger than 6ish, and decent, I mean they have a single food/drink special throughout the week. This place is a divvy dive bar. Sure, it’s a dive bar, in the shell of an old library, and it’s probably more of a college hangout, themed with aussie décor. You can imagine the dive bar/pub/drinking hole, where you hit on, or were hit on, but brutish college people, and with the smell of a bar, tables and bar games, it’s everything you expect from a place that caters to the younger crowd. Expect bar food here, sure they have lots options, but you are eating at a bar, so the food is bar themed. Most items are under 15 bucks, and starters are all under 10 bucks. If you are looking for value, you will find that here. So why is this place getting 4 stars? Well, they have a great selection of alcohol, and you have to keep in mind, it’s a fracking bar, which means all the things you expect, TVs, inexpensive beer, value priced bar food, and plenty of space to crowd around, drink and be merry, that’s all here. Sure they are violating the awesomeness of old historical architecture, and the place smells of college; but if you are looking for the dive bar, with aspirations of becoming better/awesome/party HQ, then this place is hitting all those notes. Will I be back? Maybe, but I’m going to have to be in the mood to revisit my college-drinking-self, if it’s happening. If you are still in college, then, you probably are already here!

I like this place. They have an indoor and outdoor section with many tables for people to sit. They also open till pretty late which is a big plus. I liked that they had lots of board games and puzzles for their customers. We were here as a group of 10 on a Friday night. It was really crowded, people chatting, laughing, and just having a good time. They have a variety of beer to chose from but mostly are common beers such as bluemoon and manny’s. Nothing too unique. We played the cool kind of jenga which was very funny. It was a great time and I really enjoyed the ambience.

Alright so it’s kinda a college hangout slash not, the beers are not cheap. Specially the hilliards 6 Bucks a can it’s 8 to 10 for 4 at a store or brewy. Great out side seating, the owner is a cool dude the food… I don’t know havent had it, I’m only here because there’s not many bars open near fire stone. If you plan on day drinking bring lots of money. Lots of people are either alone drinking or just on there phone hence me. Its an interesting place I like to drink at local brewies more but none open till 3. Its a British pub like market and arms except this place is pricey. I miss the Viking

The food was alright, nothing out of this world but good enough for basic pub grub. The single bartender making drinks and taking orders for the entire bar looked overworked. There was no real system for ordering at the bar so people will rudely cut in front of you even if you’ve been patiently waiting for a while. The clientele can get a little rowdy but it seems to be in good fun. There are just so many good places to go in Ballard that I can’t see myself returning for the mediocre food. If you aren’t coming in to get rambunctious and watch rugby then it really isn’t anything too special.
