Jefferson Community Center

I’ve only come to play badminton on Tuesday nights here.
The courts in the gym are your typical all purpose gym courts, the surface can often be slippery and dangerous to play on. The wait time for the courts often are long and you only get to play one game before you have to rotate off. The only good thing about playing here is that you can meet a lot of new people, the way you get on a court is by writing your name on a board and anyone can sign up to play with you. It’s a neat system that allows you to play with people and meet people of all skill groups.
The skill level here is on the low side so if you are looking for a challenge you might want to try other clubs.

I have such fond memories of Jefferson — I went there for day camp in the summers when I was a kid! Now that I’m an adult, I go here for Zumba and sometimes Mixxed Fit. The instructors have all been fabulous – they have lots of energy that keeps me motivated. They also play great music, and I find myself singing/​gasping along. Whatever fitness «level» you are, you can adapt the moves to your ability for less or more intensity. And there is no need to feel self-​conscious either – no one looks sexy and everyone focuses on having fun while working out. Besides the physical benefit, it has personally helped me release a ton of stress from work. I am truly so thankful for the addition of these amazing classes in my life.
If you live in or near Beacon Hill, I HIGHLY encourage you to take advantage of all that Jefferson offers. Besides fitness, they have sports, dance, community kitchen, art, first aid, and tons of programs for kids, teens, and the elderly. I hope you take a chance on something new and enjoy it as much as I have.

I grew up on Beacon Hill and went to preschool at Jefferson. Nearly 2 years ago I found Zumba classes were offered here. Something I always wanted to try. I was so happy to find the local community center offered Zumba! Love my instructors Jewel and Craig Hawley! Their energy is contagious. A hidden secret on Beacon Hill very few knew about:) Needless to say I love their classes and will keep on going:) Come check them out Tuesday and Wednesday nights 7 – 8 pm:)

I always love coming here for their open badminton sessions. Usually they’re on Tuesdays from 6−10pm. It’s $ 3 and free for high school students. You meet so many interesting and diverse people of all ages and skill levels. Beginners are always welcome, which is comforting. I’ve been coming to their badminton sessions for about 2 years now, and have made great new friends and a nice home away from home! The staff at the front desk is also always very friendly and welcoming.
