History

Established in 2010.

The J & M Café is located in historic Pioneer Square. Originally built in 1889 we are considered the first bar in Seattle.

We are a full service restaurant and bar, with live entertainment nightly. Classically trained Chef Carlton features house made food utilizing local purveyors.

The J & M Café has been a Seattle favorite nightlife and dining destination for over a century. We recently fully renovated and revitalized the restaurant, updating the feel of The J & M while retaining the old charm that we are famous for.

The J & M welcomes all to come and enjoy the atmosphere and traditions of being the local bar that you can dine, dance or watch your favorite sporting event.

Meet the Manager

Carlton G.

Manager

Chef Carlton is a classically trained chef with over 20 years experience whose simple yet modern approach to pub cuisine brings a new level to the J & M. Specializing in local ingredients and handmade food, featuring items from Seattle favorite producers such as Grand Central Bakery, Beecher’s Cheese, Painted Hills Beef and Uli’s Sausage, among others. His favorite appetizer is the Maple Braised Slab Bacon. He also enjoys the wide variety of sandwiches and burgers — including the Knuckle Sandwich, guaranteed to ‘kick your pork butt’. Retro specialties include dishes such as Hangtown Fry and Liver & Onions. He also offers a dessert menu, featuring house-baked choices such as the Washington Street Apple Crisp and decadent Chocolate Bacon Cake.
