J & J Collision

Had a good experience at J&J. They were on time and on budget and the car looked new after I backed into something. The reason for 4 stars is because I also wanted to get my windows fixed (my window would often get stuck and wouldn’t open) and the guy I was explaining the issue to jumped to conclusions on what the issue was (e.g. Must be a bad motor) vs. checking the issue in the car. It wasn’t until I asked him to go to the car to see the issue that he realized it was an issue with the rubber seal around the window, which is a much cheaper repair. So just make sure to do a sense check and have them go see the issue at your car before committing to fix something. I don’t feel like he was upselling me, but rather jumping to conclusions.

My wife had her car fixed here last week. The woman working the front is a real Jem very nice as well as the other man handling our car. There was a scratch that was caused by a worker that they were happy to fix as they had not spotted it. Their policy is for employees to report things like this and if they do not, and hide something they can be fired. They were not happy with the employee that did not report this. They showed their true character with this incident that they are committed to taking care of us not just a profit. Thanks guys we will be back if we get in another accident.

Looking for a collision repair shop is never fun. In my several years living in the Ballard area, I had never needed one until someone backed into my car in a parking lot. Thankfully, the other driver’s insurance was fully covering the repairs and they sent me a list of recommended shops in the area. After looking into several, I chose J&J. J&J made the process mostly painless, and Mimi at the front desk was very helpful. She even made arrangements with the local Enterprise for a car rental which was covered under the claim.
There were just a few minor scratches to my back bumper, but the quote came back at $ 1,200+. I was shocked at the price considering the damage was so minor, but since I wasn’t the one paying, I went with it. If I needed repair services in the future, I may look around and get some quotes elsewhere just to compare.
Chuck also recommended that I personally pay for an additional hour of labor for them to smooth out my entire back bumper (insurance only covered the impact site), as I’ve had my car for about 9 years and there were definitely quite a few nicks and scratches that have accumulated over the years. I’m glad I paid the little extra, as my bumper now looks great! They even give you small bottles of the extra custom made paint to take home in case you get any nicks in the future.
They were also able to finish my car a full day earlier than expected.
Overall, I’d recommend J&J!

I needed some quater panel work and they added some aftermarket parts on the car I wanted and painted it all and I was very impressed with their work and in a timely fashion. They got my car done in two weeks when most shops I went to said it would be a month. I would definitely do business with them in the future. Thanks Brenton and Chuck!

After I did a bang-​up job on my mom’s prized 1994 Miata, they did a bang-​up job fixing it up. I found them responsive and attentive, and most importantly, those parts they repaired and repainted looked amazing. My mom was very happy. :)
My only critique is that it felt like the job took a little longer than expected, but I wasn’t in a hurry, so it didn’t bother me.

1. My insurance did NOT require anything, but only provided an estimate for the parts and labor.
2. J&J was going to let me walk out with a part that obviously did NOT FIT and a color that was 8 – 10 shades darker (which the manager chuck, agreed with my adjuster). It wasn’t until I raised the issue and contacted my insurance to request J&J to submit an approval for a fitting part and more time to redo the paint job. J&J did NOT express any concerns or many any attempt to fix this issue and just let me leave with the poor service given.
3. And I most definitely indicated to the manager that I was still dissatisfied, may not be to the fit with the new bumper, but most definitely with the paint job.
4. I am aware that you cannot get to 100% match on the color, but it was definitely still a poor job and still several shades darker.
No accountability of their poor service to me, but instead, say anything to save whatever reputation they have left. No apologies given.
What really made this a huge deal to me, is that no phone call to either myself or my insurance regarding the fit of the bumper was NOT made prior to resolve (I even asked the manager, and just shrugged with no words. REALLY?!?). But only a phone call to myself, stating my car is ready to be picked up, KNOWING that the part did not fit. The issue wouldn’t have been fixed and just allow me to leave if I didn’t raise the concern.

Just moved to Seattle, and I am very lucky to find a good auto repair place. Mimi at front desk is very helpful and kind. She explained details to me which makes me feel respect as a customer. I Need to get replaced my side mirror, and they ordered it for me without any deposit. They also painted the part first therefore I only need to leave my car at their place for a few minutes instead of a full day. Actually it just took less than 30 minutes to put it on.

My car was hit by another driver and his insurance took responsibility for the repairs. I received a check and went to J & J to schedule the repair. They wanted the insurance check first. No schedule or estimate. Just hand over the check and we’ll then schedule you in. I’m not use to doing business that way. It seems a business should do the work then expect payment. After all, they will have my car as collateral. Although we agreed to a down payment for parts (approximately 30% upfront), I decided to take the car to Ballard Collision instead. Work scheduled, no advanced payments and a very straightforward business arrangement.

Needed to replace a side mirror. Already had the part. Install quote: $ 50. Actual, including tax: $ 42. Done in less than an hour. Café Bambino down the street is a great place to wait.

This was my first experience with any sort of ‘collision/​repair’ shop. Someone knocked my side mirror in a parking lot so I called Bernies and they recommended J& J Collision. I called and Mimi has me bring my car in that morning for Chuck to take a look at. He quickly assessed the situation and looked up the parts and told me that the parts alone to replace the mirror on my Audi would be $ 1350. He then said that he would do some research and see if he could find the parts used and call me back. Mimi called me the next day to say they located an intact mirror and the price would be just over $ 500 for everything (including $ 350 for the mirror). It turns out the paint job on the replacement perfectly matched my car so I was able to save another $ 150. They also touched up a scratch that my husband had put on my car while it was in the shop. The mirror looks great and works perfectly. I highly recommend them!!! Very glad that I didn’t just bring my car to Audi for the repair.

For as much as I have admired their classy signage over the years, I have never wanted to visit J&J because that would mean I’d be in need of their services.
And then a few weeks ago an inattentive driver strayed into my lane and gave me a reason to drop in.
Doing business with Chuck (owner) and Mimi (office manager) was about as pleasant and easy as you can get. They were both courteous and efficient in every interaction and I feel very valued as a customer. even though Pemco was really their customer in this instance.
The repairs to my car were completed on time and my car was delivered hand washed and vacuumed, so it looked better than I left it both inside and out, damage not withstanding.
Exceptional customer service and quality of work aside, Chuck is focused on providing the right amount work and collaborates with the customer to determine what that amount is, especially if you’re paying out of pocket. Between the descriptions of their services located around the office and snippets of conversations I overheard, it would appear that J&J’s guiding principle is partnering with the customer to make your car safe first and foremost, and then presentable within each customer’s desired end state and budget.
While I hope I don’t need collision/​auto body services again any time soon, J&J has absolutely earned my business if I do.

Due to a series of unfortunate events, I had to go back to J&J for more repairs. What was not unfortunate was the great service I was given for a second time. My car looks good as new again. Hopefully I don’t have to go back anytime soon, but if I do need any more repair work this will be my shop of choice.

Best experience I’ve had at a car repair place. Super easy, just faxed my insurance appraisal in, dropped off the car a week later, picked it up a few days later (on time, actually earlier than expected). Definitely recommend!

«J and J was a referral by the insurance company. of the guy who hit me. I usually use Aki’s. in Ballard. Mimi seemed rushed and I felt I was bothering her with my questions. It took 2 or 3 days longer than originally estimated, with no explanation, just emails pushing back the date, but only as responses to my emails. I didn’t even get a call when my car was done!
When I did go to pick up my car Mimi’s only interest was in getting my signature, no actual explanation of what had been done to the car. I will definitely choose my own repair shop from now on, and it won’t be J&J collision.

Friendly accommodating staff. Very clean & organized shop. Arranged rental car. Repairs done ahead of schedule. Car was washed and detailed. Car looks beter than new! Would definitely recommend then and use them again.

My car wasn’t drivable and was at Superior Auto Service getting mechanical repairs… I also needed body work done but they didn’t do those types of repairs. So I called Chuck who then drove to the other shop and emailed me an estimate (including pictures). The estimate for the body work was about $ 1000 lower than another estimate I had received (from Queen Anne Auto Body). Chuck and Mimi worked with my mechanic to coordinate the repairs because my car had to go back and forth between the shops. The work was completed fast and my car looks great.

We’ve been using J & J for 20 plus years. They are incredibly professional, do very high quality work and have always been competitively priced. They also have an attractive, very clean shop.

Here’s another great thing about J&J — there’s plenty to do nearby if you need to kill an hour or so. Last time, I needed a side mirror attached, and I was able to wait it out across the street at the Ridge Back Café. Swee-​eet!

Things you don’t want to have to deal with when you wake up and discover your car has been vandalized: all of it. Thankfully, after speaking with my insurance agent and saying I’d go with their recommendation of J&J, I didn’t have to do a thing. Mimi gave me a call within 15 minutes and took it from there. Four hours later and my car was drivable again, blessedly in time for the Labor Day weekend. I returned it to the shop the following Wednesday for the remaining work and picked it up Thursday afternoon — a full day earlier than expected!

So I am not the most «alert» driver…
I backed into a guy’s tail light two weeks ago and I needed a place to get it repaired.
Thankfully the tail light owner was nice and did not cause too big a fuss about the accident.
We checked out a few other body shops near Aurora but they were charging around a grand for the work with almost a full day of labor.
J & J collision quoted the damage accurately, even pointing out where there was prior damage to the vehicle. The price quote was reasonable and the turnaround time was convenient.
Everyone makes mistakes, I just make a lot more! Thankfully J & J was able to mitigate the damage to my wallet on this one.
