We work at the intersection of Big Data and the Internet of Things to identify, locate and authenticate items, and our platform comprises the world’s most comprehensive and widely adopted RFID product set, including tag chips, reader chips, fixed readers, software and innovations that support complete solutions. Founded by globally recognized PhD engineers, we have led standards-​setting processes while accumulating over 200 patents and developing the technology currently deployed on billions of items worldwide to manage inventory, prevent counterfeits and track goods. Our direct and indirect customers include many of the largest and most familiar names in global business.

History

Established in 2000.

Impinj was founded on technology developed by Dr. Carver Mead and Dr. Chris Diorio that enables low power, programmable, minimum-​size analog circuits. Semiconductor visionary Dr. Mead was awarded the National Medal of Technology in 2003 and has founded more than twenty companies in his professional career. The driving force behind the UHF Gen 2 standard, Dr. Diorio is Chairman and CTO of Impinj and also an Associate Professor at the University of Washington. He has personally revolutionized using RFID in applications from supply-​chain to pharmaceuticals.

Business Owner

Dr. Colleran brings more than 20 years of semiconductor-​industry experience to Impinj, most recently as Director of Business Development for Broadcom Corporation. Prior to joining Broadcom, he was CEO of Innovent Systems, Inc, which he led from the company’s inception through its sale to Broadcom. Dr. Colleran previously worked for Merrill Lynch’s Technology Investing Banking Group, focusing on financial transactions and acquisitions in the technology sector. He also has extensive engineering-​design experience, both as a consultant for several Fortune 500 companies and as a Senior Staff Engineer for TRW, Inc., where he developed high-​performance data converters in silicon bipolar, GaAs HBT and GaAs MESFET processes. Dr. Colleran received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1993, his M.S. from USC in 1985, his B.S. from Notre Dame in 1983, all in Electrical Engineering, and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1996.
