History

Established in 2009.

Matt Long, founder and president of Husky Senior Care, worked in Senior Housing (Independent, Assisted, and Memory Care) since leaving UW in 1998. After serving thousands of seniors, he noticed that he never met one who wanted to leave home. Matt developed Husky Senior Care: The Stay Home Alternative in 2009 to provide a muscular ally for seniors who want to stay home. Husky Senior Care provides a wonderful counterbalance to all the forces that try to force seniors out of their homes. Matt also noticed that home care companies lacked the kind of caregivers and business model that would appeal to the alumni population. The Stay Home Alternative Program answers this need. Matt grew up on the island of Borneo, Indonesia, as the son of missionary parents. His Dad is a pastor; his Mom is a registered nurse. He went to UW from 1991 to 1998, where he studied U.S. and European Intellectual History (BA, MA, PhD program partial). He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was awarded a coveted Teaching Assistantship post during his graduate studies. In 1998 he decided to pursue his business and social work interests and turned in earnest to serving seniors. He worked his way up from the mailroom, so to speak, and rose in the ranks to own his own management company, Long Retirement Management. In 2009, with the insights gained from serving thousands of seniors, he launched Husky Senior Care. Matt also met his wife Victoria in the senior care arena. She was an Activity Director at a retirement community. Now she is a CNA and works with the family business. They have 2 daughters (now 5 year old twins), a dog Misty, and live in Ballard
