Description

History

Established in 1899.

This place has been a saloon, gamblin’ hall or place for stiff drinks since the turn of the century (the last one, of course!) and has been Hattie’s Hat since the 1950s. It’s a Ballard Classic, and you should come check out our Fred Oldfield mural, our beautiful bar, and the booths with names of former sassy waitstaff!

I’m into atmosphere and this one really hits a homer. It really plays into the old town building feel paired with cool old paintings and pictures. I had the 2 horse radish bloody marry which might be the best I’ve had yet. Grubbing on the pickled condiments on this bloody marry was no prob as they accented the drink without question. Had the cheese burger. nothing to write home to mom about but the chard flavor of the patty worked perfectly. I’ll have to try the breakfast as they sa you it gets nuts busy around breffis time. So far worth it for the bloody marry.

Classic Ballard in a time that Ballard needs more of its roots and less of whatever we are calling what is happening here. Great bar to belly up to. Rib sticking bar food. Open early and stay open late. Open on Christmas Day for crying out loud.

Hit this place up on a hunch. Was late night getting out of a show and wanted some good eats. Bloody Mary was definitely on point. Partner had Applewood Smoked BBQ ribs that were delicious (from what he let me taste). I had Ol’ Con’s Chicken Fried Chicken sandwich which was outstanding. Totally unexpected. But what really got us both was the spinach casserole. Yes… spinach folks. DELICIOUS. Definitely making a trip back here when I’m back in the PNW

Randomly found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it out. My best friend and I ended up loving it.
She got the chicken breakfast with gravy, toast, hash browns, and eggs. I got the hangover burger. We split them and they were both GREAT. The coffee wasn’t bad either.
It was noon and people already were at the bar with beers and Bloody Mary’s so if you don’t want to be judged for some early drinking, it’s definitely a good place. :P

Got the aunt Harriet’s country breakfast, and was not disappointed at all. The biscuits and gravy were damn close to thee best I’ve ever had! Cooked my eggs to exactly my request, the hash browns were also awesome as they are fresh and not bag frozen type of hash browns. Sausage patties had awesome flavoring. Wife said the Bloody Mary was awesome and wanted to get another ha ha.

Hattie’s Hat has a great menu with reasonable prices. I have enjoyed breakfast numerous times and never been disappointed. Occasionally the cleanliness of the establishment is a bit low (sticky tables, etc) but that’s most places that serve breakfast with syrups and jams. When so many places charge $ 15+ for a breakfast dish, it’s nice to grab some chicken and waffles for $ 8.

Hattie’s Hat is super chill and a great spot for a late night burger. Surprisingly not overwhelmingly crowded on a Friday night with quick and attentive service.
They have good ciders and beer on tap and you can really just sit back and relax with your food. I can definitely recommend the bacon and blue cheese burger – it’s got several thick pieces of bacon and the bread and burger are really solid. Their tots are super crunchy and awesome and they have some great hot sauces for you if you’re into that.

My favorite dive come-​as-​you-​are brunch place. I especially enjoy going during the weekdays when it’s quiet and sitting in a comfy booth. Weekends are busy. My go-​to is the chicken fried chicken breakfast.

A great solid burger with some of my favorite fries in Seattle (they have just the right amount of seasoning)! We’ve always had pleasant service and the bill is usually very reasonable.
An older place for sure, much different crowd than the typical new Ballard bar.

Hattie’s has always been my favorite bar in Seattle, and even with the full makeover of the back dining room several years ago (and the MASSIVE changes on Ballard Ave over the past decade), it still always feels like the same friendly place whenever I make it by here.
I love the dark and well-​worn yet warm and cozy interior, the good food and drink, the excellent tunes that are playing through the house speakers, and of course the servers and bartenders who treat everyone with friendliness, respect and equity.
The Bloody Mary selection is awesome and the migas are just about the best brunch food in old Ballard.

What a dive, but I love it!
It’s actually pretty nice that a place like this exists amidst all of the pretension on Ballard Ave. Don’t get me wrong, I love my neighborhood, but the restaurants/​shops on Ballard Ave. are on the hipstery side of the equation. Having a tasty dive thrown in makes for a good mix of folks.
I never actually thought to eat here until I did (on a first date awhile back), and I instantly fell in love with the «adult grilled cheese.» So filthy, yet, so good. I get it with just the cheese, and it’s just oozing with buttery, cheesy goodness. Comes with fries, although I think there may be a healthier substitute… but why would you?
Never had the drinks here, but even on a week day during lunch, this place seems to have regulars. The employees are friendly and seem to know their clientele.
With the exception of the parking in the area, this is a great stop. I am lucky that I can walk within 15 – 20 minutes from where I live.

This place is hella vintage and has been around since 1904. I came here with friends for brunch and wasn’t disappointed.
The grown-​up grilled cheese was good, although I could probably make something similar at home.
I don’t like that they don’t have veggie burger options on the menu. I’m sure they’d sell like crazy in Ballard.
Service was really good. We were a somewhat large party and they accommodated us quite well.
I think if Hatties revisited their menu, they’d have a really cool little place. Otherwise it’s still pretty good. I love the old-​timey charm and would go back.

I’ve been here three times and it’s gotten worse each time.
The last time I went was on Sunday 3⁄29 for a late brunch with a few friends. Service wasn’t great-​they forgot a drink, but then comped it, so can’t really complain. However my husband couldn’t eat his meal as it looked like dog food on a plate. He ordered poached eggs Benedict and it came out looking like scrambled eggs.
The real reason I won’t go back here now is four of us ordered Bloody Mary’s off the infamous Bloody Mary menu and all four of us got serious food poisoning from it. It’s been 48 hours and we’re all still feeling it. Whether it’s from expired Bloody Mary mix, bad garnishes or employees not washing their hands, we will not be back.
