Has it been too long since you were treated like an idiot? Having trouble finding a doctor bases care on personal religious beliefs instead of medical science? Look no further! I was sick at work and a coworker recommended Dr. Harris. I was having stomach pains and my blood pressure was high. Dr. Harris barely asked about my stomach trouble. He pretty much just told me my blood pressure was high because I was on birth control. Immediately he reccomended I stop my birth control. I explained that I have a history of high BP when I’m anxious or stressed(duh). I had previously tested my BP several times a day for a week and it was always normal except for when I was working 12 hour shifts at my stressful job. He disagreed and suggested again I stop my pills. When I told him I disagreed and he rolled his eyes and asked to do another weeklong series of BP tests. Ok…so then I had to remind him that my visit was for stomach pain. Oh yeah… right so he ordered a fecal sample and blood work. Fast forward to me handing a plastic cup full of my poop to one of his nurses. Then she got ready to draw my blood…“Oops” I said«You forgot to wash your hands and put on gloves». This poor excuse for a medical professional hurriedly explained that it was«office policy» not to wear gloves for blood draws since they don’t protect against needle sticks. Seriously? I had to insist a few more times before she would comply with my ridiculous request of hand washing and gloves. As I was getting my blood drawn Dr. Harris popped into the room and, before I could stop him, gave me a shot in my arm. «What was that?». It was flu shot I had explicitly stated I did not want. Dr. Harris explained I was wrong to not want a flu shot so he just gave me one anyways. Hey Geoffrey, that is assault! The only reason I came back 2 weeks later was to show him he was wrong about my blood pressure. He then proceeded to suggest again that I stop my pills even though my BP was normal. Because, what if I get pregnant and my baby has birth defects because of pills. I explained I was on birth control because I didn’t want to get pregnant. He laughed at me, shook his head and mumbled I would never know if my imaginary, unwanted, baby would have been born normal. Wow. Run!
