Half Price Books

He said my like new books I got from UW last quarter were worth 25 cents a piece. I was just doing a comparison and UW is offering at least $ 10.
He also said 11 of my books– a textbook, other school books, and novels were only worth $ 22.75…

But the building itself is small and if you try to park your car… the parking lot is small also. And if you have got a lot of time like this old retired goat. go to half price books.

Great experience yesterday. Thanks for your help Brian! I was looking for a book that was showing in stock on their inventory. While I wandered, Brian cased the store from top to bottom looking for it since it wasn’t where it should have been shelved. I checked out and left my number in case it turned up. 5 minutes later I received a call from Brian. Another customer had the book in her hands while he was looking and she checked out right after I left. Brian called me immediately. He offered to have copies transferred in from the other locations. What great attentive service!!!

Two floors! Two floors of books!!! I about lost it in here. So amazing and so reasonably priced. Best place outside of Powell’s.

They gave me the worst prices in Seattle for my used books, I’m not going back as a seller or a buyer.

Half price books is my new favorite hidden gem. I didn’t feel like going to Barnes and Nobles, and was wanting to find a local bookstore. I found this place and I’m so glad I did!
The location has a private parking lot which is really convenient. The book store is two stories but small in size and the stairs are pretty steep. Half Price Books is organized by categories very well. The only negative thing is that upstairs feels a lot more cluttered then the downstairs organization wise. (Books not standing up straight, some double stacked, some on floor.) The store also had a musty book smell to it which wasn’t very pleasant but it was tolerable.
The staff was very nice and helpful. If there wasn’t a book at their location, but at a different one they could ship it to this store for you to pick up.
Overall there are a lot of good and rare finds that wouldn’t be at a Barnes and Noble which I enjoyed. The books they had that were used, were in excellent condition. If you are looking for all new and current books go to Barnes and Noble, but if you want to find cheap books then I recommend coming here!

The Seattle — University District is my favorite Half Price Books location for a gazillion years — another long overdue Unilocal post.
The family and I have found countless awesome finds over the years, but this is one of my stops to locate much sought out cookbooks while on a budget.
I’ve been lucky to have parking karma and decent store staff present. Whether you’re there to sell some media or books, browse, kill some time, strategic shop — one of my consistent go to stops aside from Scarecrow Video.

Pretty decent used bookstore to sell back to. They have a nice sized collection of, everything in terms of books. They even have software, games, and a DVD collection. This is only my 2^nd time here, from a few months ago, and the workers here are pretty friendly. I probably be back again in the feature.

Very customer unfriendly. I went there today by bicycle. My two panniers weighed about 40 pounds each. I asked the clerk downstairs at the front desk if I could leave them there. He said the store no longer allows customers to do that. So I would have to haul the panniers up a flight of stairs and drag them around the store with me. There was plenty of space to keep them behind the front desk. Even when I told him every store I had been to that day had no problem helping me with my modest request. What stupidity, obtuseness, as well as behavior that would enrage any customer. Shame on half-​price books and their idiotic hostility to a reasonable customer request. I love used books and have bought thousands over the years. But I will NEVER again set foot in that store.

This HPB is kinda small. The parking lot is small too. Aside from that, it’s the same olé HPB most people know and sometimes love. No one really nags you by asking you if you need help, which may or may not be what you’re looking for. Each section is labelled and since the place is so small you really shouldn’t have a hard time finding what you’re looking for or just generally browsing. The people at the cash registers are more than happy to look up books for you too.
The buy back counter is always busy and it’s upstairs. I am not sure I saw an elevator or anything to make the place handicap accessible but I may be wrong. You can find some cool things in here though and great gifts if you’re looking for something off-​color or strange for someone who is hard to buy for. I was able to find some decently prices softback books and of course some videos and VHS for less than $ 2/​each. It’s just a cute little bookstore to grab some cheap reads. It’s no Powell’s though. Just sayin’

Half Price Books sells clean books for half the covre price but they do not offer a quarter of the ;price when they buy. They offer maybe 1%! The are ripoff artists in that respect.

Yes, this place is a killer for cheap books and a great selection. The only bummer I have here is that I did some online shopping before I knew they would ship stuff to the stores for free, which kind of bummed me out. But I find a ton of stuff in here I won’t find anywhere else. I absolutely love roaming the fiction shelves, as they sell real books– not those horrid mass paperbacks trying to pass for writing. Stop in. It’s cheap!

Staff is less friendly, helpful than the Crossroads location.
In general though, it’s a treasure trove of unknown goodies just waiting to be explored. Parking can be tight, but if you circle the block a time or two, you should find something nearby (can’t park TOO far away, otherwise it’s a pain to lug ALL THOSE BOOKS back to your car).

HFB, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways

— Great, random selection. You may not always find that one book you came in for, but you’ll find books you never imagined to glance at
— That being said, usually a decent selection of newer books
— They also have puzzles, crossword puzzle books & the like

— And books on CD
I could go on. This is one of the bigger stores, the biggest I’ve seen so far — 2^nd being Redmond. The parking lot is tiny but street parking isn’t super hard to find. Love me some HFB.

I’ve been reading a lot lately. Maybe its the need to escape from the reality of daily life.
After seeing some books at Half Price Books that I paid full price at Barnes and Noble, I decided to start visiting all of the locations for my books.
Yes, I can go to Amazon, but then I would have to pay tax on it. I would rather have my sales tax go to my neighborhood and support a local business.
The places aren’t as plush as other bookstores, but you can find a ton of books (a lot that are new) at a really low price.
Plus after I’ve read them and find I don’t want to keep them, I can trade them in for other books.
If you’re like me and love getting a good value, Half Price Books is the place to go.
I would have given them 5 stars, but they don’t have everything I want.

Some of the best deals on used books I’ve ever gotten have been at Half Price. Most recently, I scored a massive paperback biography on Oscar Wilde for… drum roll please! One dollar. That’s just $ 0.0015 per page!
They also buy a bunch of my books off me every year or so and fill my wallet up with some much-​needed spending money… which I try desperately to hold on to all the way out the door, and sometimes actually succeed. They pay fair prices — I know they are getting a bargain and are going to mark the books way up once they go back out on the shelf, but I still feel like I got my money’s worth, too.
The only drawback to this place is that if you’re a bibliophile like myself and spend too much time in there, you WILL go broke.

Holy cow! There is so much to buy here! We came here to look for Christmas gifts a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of books, gadgets, calendars, DVDs, etc. that this place had!
We were here for around 45 minutes because there was so much to look at and sift through. I ended up buying a pretty beach calendar for $ 5, Spongebob Squarepants coloring bag with markers, and a knitting book — all for around $ 20. I was really excited for these deals. A lot of the stuff here are actually new! They have a bunch of classics and newer books too, you just have to be willing to look a little deeper into the piles.
I’ll have to admit… the lower level is more interesting than the top level where all the older books and DVDs live. But I’m more intrigued by the newer stuff anyway. I can’t wait to come back to look for great gifts at affordable prices.
The parking lot can also get full quickly on the weekend, but there’s street parking you can pay for.

Great store in the University District in Seattle. We were in the area checking out various stores and stumbled on this one.
A lot of great titles some you’ve heard of and many you had not. Nice just to peruse and let the mind wander a bit. Plus, as much as I love the Kindle, phone, etc., to read books on there is nothing like a real book.
The YS found some fun books as well. One about the making of the Big Lebowski which was a fun book and some others that were a bit more high brow, if you will.
Either way it was a fun diversion on our short jaunt to Sea town. I would definitely stop back here again. The prices and selection were good.

Why is the door to the icky bathroom in the middle of the kid’s section? Yuck.
This branch has two floors and the steps are rather steep. Worth noting, because the buy counter is upstairs.
Best bets: comic books, collector items, and computer books or computer related items.
This store used to be much better several years ago. It is due for an overhaul. Definitely head to the Capitol Hill branch first!

I sold about 15 paperback books here and only got $ 4. It was what I expected but a small part of me hoped to be pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t. I also hate it when they make up excuses along the way like «well unfortunately, these are books we see pretty often.» You’re going to mark it up by a lot. Everyone knows that. Whatever.
With that said, the selection of books in here looked pretty cool. I saw some cookbooks that seemed cool and the store is pretty well organized.
