Glassique

I paid 100 $ for an annual class and 90 $ for material back in Sept 2014. I’ve called several times to schedule the class since then. Rich told me they were moving in January 2015. And now the phone number is no longer in service for the past 2 weeks! I should have looked at the previous reviews before putting money towards this scam of a business.

I purchased a Groupon for the introductory stained glass class.
After multiple times calling to try and schedule the class, I finally got an appointment booked. First class was canceled and rescheduled. I finished part 1 of the class and booked part 2. Again got canceled on and had to reschedule. During the part 2 class, he tells me i can’t finish my project because his assistant sold the last of his solder and he doesn’t have any left.
So I try rescheduling for a Part 3 and I got canceled on at least twice. During all the canceling and rescheduling, I told Rich I was moving away and needed to finish the panel. Well moving day quickly approached and the panel still wasn’t done because Rich canceled on me. He even said he’d agree to solder the panel, wrap it up, and ship it to me in a week. Fast forward a month to September and he hasn’t even soldered the pieces yet. I had to get a friend to go to Glassique and pick up the pieces for me.
After I moved I tried contacting Rich multiple times to find the status of the pieces with no response. I can see why this place gets 1 star/​low ratings on Unilocal,Google, and BBB. This guy is a real piece of work that I hope others avoid dealing with in the future. I paid $ 60 for a Groupon class and got nothing but a headache and an unfinished glass panel.

I bought a Groupon for a introductory stained glass class, it took two months of phone calls before I actually spoke to a real person, (the web site was not working). I signed up for the next available glass. When I arrived Rich had started the class 30 minutes early and told me I would have to reschedule because he could not bring me up to speed… Apparently he starts his class when he decides — not when it’s scheduled. He was rude … That should have been my sign to walk away.
Instead I asked if he did repair work, he said he did, I showed him 1of4 identical glass panels needing repair and wrote him a check for 50% down. Rich promised my glass panels would be ready the following week. The following day I brought in all 4 panels as agreed on. As others have discovered, he does not deliver. It was one excuse after another, illness, too much work, too many students. I have text messages from him saying that 3 of the 4 panels were complete, but when I asked to pick up the 3 now and the last one when it was done, he had another excuse. I even offered him a bonus if he completed the job by a certain date, already late, but I was willing to pay extra just to get them back.
Of course more excuses and promises. Rich sent me a text that we could NOT pick up the panels on Monday as promised, but that they would be ready Tuesday after 2:00. Today my husband and I showed up at 2:00. He had not done ANY of the work! Not one panel had been done. Not one! He tried to make an excuse but I knew it was another LIE!!! He talks smooth, has lots of excuses, and you cannot believe anything he says.
I pointed to all my messages from him saying the work was in progress… told him there no excuse for all the lies.
Rich actually broke two of the glass pieces.
I wish I’d read these reviews before doing business with Rich, he seems to follow a pattern of lieing and cheating, how he stays in business is beyond me.
I would never do business with this man … Save your sanity and your money, go somewhere else. I have never written a bad review but this guy is unbelievable.
Now if I could just find stained glass shop that will fix these panels that I can trust.

got my stained glass repaired for ½ of the quote Glassique quoted me from a competitor. I would call around other competitors because the quote glassique gave me was wayyyy higher than what i paid to get my stained glass repaired.

I purchased a deal for classes on Groupon last year for my nieces birthday and had tried several times to schedule the class online but never received a confirmation, I called several times and left a message but never received a call back. Now the phone number is disconnected. What a rip off

I looked online for a glass fusing class, and found this place. I called the phone number on the website and Rich answered the phone. He asked me which class I was signing up for and I gave him a date from his website. He didn’t take my name or number or give me any further instruction. My phone rang a couple minutes later and it was him saying the class I signed up for was an Advanced class — that I needed to reschedule. I was looking at the website and assured him that it was listed as introductory. He said okay, to come on that date.
I arrived that evening and the shop was closed. I called on my cell phone from there but there was no answer. I left a message to call me to straighten things out. No response.
A few days later I went to his website and saw that I could sign up that way (hadn’t seen that the first time). I signed up for a Saturday class 1÷25÷14. The website said I would get an email response. I didn’t. The day before the class I called him to say I didn’t get a response from my voicemail when I was stood up, no an email confirmation for the new class I signed up for. I He was VERY rude, asked for my name and said yes– he had me down for 2:00 the next day. I arrived on time for the class and he had a class full of stained glass students. He seemed shocked to see me there and said he needed to reschedule me. I mentioned it was the second time, so he sighed, and said «okay, why don’t you pick out some items from the display case you like and we can make a few things». He did a quick demo of a little piece, and said to pick out some glass and get started. I floundered around looking at glass not knowing the basics of anything while he worked with his full table of stained glass students.
He came back and saw me looking at nearby glass because there was very little to choose from in the space he set aside. He seemed really angry and scolded me in front of the other students saying the glass I was looking at was not compatible with the glass he provided. In a real class with an instructor I guess I would have known that.
We ended up not making anything because of our inability to communicate.
That’s the last time I’ll do business with anyone who I haven’t investigated on Unilocal

Purchased ‘deal’ through Living Social. Never was able to get ahold of anyone at Glassique to schedule a class, or get my calls returned. Doesn’t matter that voucher doesn’t expire, you still can’t get ahold of anyone to schedule. Save your money and some headaches.

I completely agree with warnings other people provided here and on other sites that allows feedback to businesses.
He’s very unorganized, has anger issues, and is not to be trusted. At first, he seemed to be a very fun-​loving guy, but the more I got to know him, the more I got afraid of him (bursts of anger & serious insecurity). Also, I saw how he was screwing people over left and right — including his employees. Like many others, he owes me money. Even after admitting to it on paper, I still haven’t seen a cent after over a year. I don’t actually care that much about the money; I care that he is still actually in business screwing so many other people.
I noticed most of the «good» reviews posted are referring to the short-​term class they took. Those classes were usually taught by other people, not Richard. And, even if it was Richard, as noted, at first he comes off (and can be) a cool guy. Richard IS capable of making nice stained glass. Maybe one of the few people who received his completed work or repair was happy (and posted positive feedback). But, it’s a risk as to whether he’ll really complete your project.
Sorry, Richard, to post this not-​so-​positive review. For me to recommend anyone for your services/​classes, I’d need to see some changes: your ethics and a healthier work environment. Until then, consumers have a right to know what they are getting into.

An update from a still EXTREMELY dissatisfied customer. WE have now been dealing with Rich Heath (or whatever his name really is) for 12 months. This guy has more excuses and lies than you can imagine. He finally started on our piece with the promise to have it done 6 weeks AGO! Every week it’s another LIE LIE LIE LIE and excuse. Besides feigning a myriad of illnesses, it’s a lost battery, toothache, an employee who didn’t show up, MORE illness. This guy must think we’re idiots. Well, we were when we trusted him and paid him for something that we don’t have…
This con artist is a liar, a cheat, a thief and a scammer. DO NOT use him.
The Better Business Bureau, the attorney general, GET JESSE will hopefully run this SHYSTER down. BE WARNED…

I purchased a Living Social deal March 2012 but was unable to redeem. I called and emailed over 20 times over the past 11 months to no avail. Richard always had an excuse or asked to email him my dates of availability (which I quickly complied) or had a new instructor ready to get on board with his company, etc. Luckily Living Social offered me a full refund, which is also sad because I really wanted to take a class but after 11 months, I finally gave up. I would be very cautious to do business with this company and with the owner. Wish I had done my research first and would have found the poor BBB rating and other bad reviews.

Would not recommend — very unprofessional business! My friend and I bought a groupon and wanted to use it on the Intro to Stained Glass class. We’re very busy during office hours so we emailed a couple times to try to get signed up. However, they’ve never once responded to an email! Calling them is not much better — in order to finally get signed up for our class, my friend and I both had to call multiple times a day for nearly an entire week until we were finally able to speak with someone. I spoke with Rich the owner, who is one of the most unprofessional people I’ve ever met.
We scheduled a class for a Saturday from 12−6pm in order to get both Modules done at once. However, when we showed up we were informed that they no longer do 6-​hour classes because they’re «exhausting» and we’d have to go through the whole process of trying to schedule a class to come back and finish our piece. They were totally unapologetic about not communicating this to everyone in the class prior to showing up that day.
Over a month later and I was finally able to schedule another appointment to come back and finish our pieces. They don’t answer email and sometimes when I would call, no ring, goes straight to voicemail and the voicemail is full! What is up with this place? I’m really unhappy with my experience — I’m proud of my (finally) finished piece, but it was absolutely NOT worth the headache of dealing with this business and absent-​minded owner.
I’m a young professional in Seattle wanting to try something different, but this place totally disrespects me as a customer and devalues my time. I can’t believe I even paid the groupon price for this class — I would be furious if I’d paid full price and got treated like this.

Rich, the owner, is not to be trusted. If you take a simple 3-​hour class, he may be okay. Or, his assistant (s) may be okay (but, lots of turn-​over, so who knows about the assistants). Like the others have said, «beware.» I could go on and on why, but will stick to just a few points. He scams people. He owes me money & many others. He is totally unorganized & unethical, despite coming off (at least at first) as very kind, supportive, & open-​minded. His moods are shifty, which can be scary. I hesitated writing this in fear of retaliation. I wonder if more are not writing here too due to fear.

BEWARE — We had a similar experience to Hilvi. We hired Glassique /​Richard Heath in June 2012 to make a replica leaded glass window to replace our original. I paid half price up front ($ 350), and he gave us a deadline of a few weeks out. After many months and multiple phone calls, during which he admitted he had not started working on the project, we asked him to not begin working on it and instead refund our money. He continues to say he will pay us and keeps moving the date over and over again. It has now been more than six months, and we have yet to get our money back. He has effectively stolen our deposit and refuses to give it back. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and have not received his response. He keeps saying he will pay us the money he stole from us but he has not. Luckily we are both attorneys and have the option of pursuing legal action without having to pay attorney fees, although it sounds from the other reviews that perhaps the business is going through severe financial trouble and may not have funds. I would not, under any circumstances, give this company any of your money.

I attended an ornament making class tonight for a girls night. It was great! Richard was very attentive and helped us with each step of the process. He taught us the skills but left the creativity up to us! The class was small, about 8 people. I would definitely take another class from Glassique.

BEWARE Rich cancelled 5 times, then I finally get my doors back and the glass pane doesn’t even meet the side of the lead, and is cut so roughly you can see it. The only thing this guy is good at is excuses… see google ads, I wish I had. more of a con artist than a glass artist

I scooped up two different deals for classes at Glassique — a 3-​hour stained glass ornaments class and a 6-​hour intro to stained glass (small panel) class. I’ve completed both now and had an absolutely wonderful time!
Scheduling was super easy — just glance at the online schedule and email for a reservation. The ornaments class was on a Wednesday evening; the panel class was two 3-​hour slots on Monday and Tuesday evening (although there is also a 6-​hour option on Saturdays.)
The place itself is easy to find, and Rich (the owner) and the 3 different workers/​assistants I’ve experienced working with were really nice, knowledgeable, and encouraging. Historically speaking, I make jewelry with bead and wire, so stained glass was completely out of my element; however, they show you a variety of methods to try, give hands on instruction when you need it, and don’t pressure you to do anything a certain way or even quicker. (For both of my classes, people had to stay late to finish, and Rich was in no rush to get people out the door even though it was late at night. Similarly, people in my panel class weren’t close enough to finishing and they were offered to come back any time during normal hours to complete their projects. How nice is that?!)
As Heather mentioned, there are some definite perks to trying one of these classes over other options:
1. No initial investment beyond the cost of the class. (They provide every item you need to complete the project. At the end you get a discounted price list, so if you’re into it enough to take up stained glass you can do so for a good value.)
2. Unlimited choices on glass. (Anything in stock is pretty much usable. Most people go for the scraps first, as you kind of feel bad as a newbie breaking into any nice full sheet. However, if there’s a color/​design you really like in a sheet they have no problem giving you a piece big enough for your project and a couple mistakes.)
3. A wide selection of colors and textures. (In addition to picking anything available you can also choose from a boat load of options. I’m really into design, so I loved holding everything up to the light and figuring out exactly which pieces would look fantastic and unique together.)
4. «Student for Life» Program. (Once you have taken a class here you’re forever their student. This detail is important because it means you can take any class at any time for half off the normal price — sweet!)
5. Something comes home immediately. (Yes, we’re in a society that values instant gratification. When you finish the class — unless you’re terribly behind — your piece or pieces are packaged and ready for display at home. You don’t have to wait or come back. In 3 hours I left with 3 Christmas ornaments in my first attempt at stained glass ever. After the panel class — about 7 hours total — I had a nice 5×7-ish panel for my window. Yay!)
I fell in love with Glassique and the people there. If I were staying in the area I would definitely go back again and again to make a panel for every room of my house and every person I could think of. It’s that much fun, and you just can’t beat the experience for half off and a day or evening of your time!

BEWARE of this man: Richard Heath Ridout aka Richard Heath. I signed a contract for a $ 40 000 window job paid up front, in full, and have received nothing but excuses, promises and lies. He took full payment up front, and the stories started when the windows did not come. After several months of tales as to why the windows hadn’t yet arrived, I requested my money back. This was followed by promises that the windows «were coming.» Eventually he admitted my money was «gone». Spent. After repeated attempts to work with him on a payment play, I have received LESS THAN 1% of my money and don’t expect another dime. All I get are lies and sob stories … «the money is in the mail», «I’m waiting for the Groupon check», «I needed to see the dentist», «the economy is bad», «my sister’s mortgage needed to be paid», and it’s all about him, him, him. Do not be fooled by him. DO NOT PAY THIS MAN UP FRONT FOR ANYTHING! DO NOT LET HIM USE YOU LIKE HE USED ME. I am not the only one he has done this to. Check out his reviews on google, insiderpages, city search, yahoo, etc. Others have had the same type of experience as I have. Don’t be his next victim! The Better Business Bureau gives him an «F» rating — the lowest option.
UPDATE 01-​07-​2012: Richard called me three days ago and pleaded with me to remove my review — he says I’m hurting his «business.» During the same call, he swore he would Fedex me a money order for $ 1000, which of course he did not do. It’s always lies and empty promises with this guy. He did give me a check for $ 1000 in December, but not surprisingly, that bounced. And that check was to replace a money order that he swore up and down he’d put in the mail, but, strangely, it never arrived. The day I picked up the check, he told me 1) it’s definitely good and 2) his bank gave him overdraft protection of $ 3000 … so either he’s at least $ 2001 into that, or just as likely, he lied (again) and he has no overdraft protection. Do not believe anything this man tells you and DO take your business elsewhere. I can’t even begin to explain how much you’ll regret giving him your business. Unless of course you enjoy being stolen from and lied to — if so this is definitely the place for you! I’ve already been contacted by someone else who’s money he’s taken. Seriously, you’re better off just flushing your money down the toilet. He has leased a space he can’t afford … I think he’s circling the drain. I suspect he’ll take your money, close shop, and open under a different name. You’ve been warned.

I just took a class that I got from Amazon. First of all, this class (mosaic) was incredibly fun and I could produce something that looked pretty darn good in a few hours. I absolutely loved it. I took a class with Gretchen who is awesome. Rick was SOOOooo nice. The store has lots of positive vibes and both Gretchen and Rick bent over backwards to help me and make sure I walked away with an incredible x-​mas gift. Gretchen helped me finish my incredibly advanced piece and Rick kept the store open 2 hours beyond it’s closing time. Incredibl service :)

I got a great deal on a groupon and took a intro to stained glass class. I had been wanting to do this forever but all the classes I had researched wanted you to buy your own set of tools (for 200 $ per person) on top of the class fee. I was excited to find this deal as tools were included. While I defintely dont think I am an expert on stained glass I much enjoyed my class. It took about 6 hours, but I left with a finished piece I can hang on my wall. Rick is the owner and was very helpful. He had an assistant as well which was a great bonus. Class size was about 8 people. There was a fused glass class going on concurently. They also had huge pieces of glass they let you chose from. Some places I have taken class from in the past only let you chose from the scraps. They offer other classes as well. Definetly worth checking out. I was very happy, even though I dont think I quit get the hang of it yet. I will probably be back in the future.

I’m proud to say that I was one of Richard’s first customers (I think) soon after he moved to Seattle. After living for many years with broken leaded glass windows in my 1906 Craftsman house, I called Glassique. In one of my finer acts of trust, I hired Richard to remove the old windows, put up plywood for a week or so, and trust that the windows would return and be reinstalled well. Well, Richard skillfully fixed the windows, and he kept to his schedule, returned in a week or so, and the price was very reasonable. I’m still delighted with my leaded windows, a couple of years later. Plus Richard is just plain fun and warm and likable, and likes to share tales and shoot the breeze about a wide variety of topics.
