Specialties
One of Seattle’s most vibrant Contemporary galleries, located in the center of Occidental Mall, Pioneer Square. A bit different from many Seattle galleries which show PNW Art predominantly, our mission is to introduce emerging Contemporary artists of national/international prominence, who’ve never shown in Seattle before, to the evolving PNW art market. The totemic, ceramic sculpture of Jane Burton. The timelessly elegant collage of Jay Kelly. «Art Brut» paintings and constructions by Lyle Carbajal and Jean Marc Calvet. Photo-collage and encaustic by Marybeth Rothman. Abstract by Elise Wagner, and many others!
Our collection of historic late 19th/20th c. Modern includes original etchings, stone lithography & drypoint prints by Renoir, Whistler, Lautrec, and others, to Miro and Chagall. We’re also the proud gallery representative of the Art Historic Estate of Walter Quirt (1902 – 1968), featuring his original paintings from 1942 to 1961.
By exhibiting Modern to Contemporary in one space, the gallery creates a visual timeline linking the values, ideals, and philosophies of the artists of yesteryear with those working today.
From the experienced collector to the novice wanting to learn more, our mission is to educate, nurture, and encourage, in a pleasant and open experience, the acquisition of compelling artwork, from the emerging to the established, that satisfies your intellectual, financial, emotional, and visual values.
History
Established in 2013.
After several years of living in San Francisco, where he’d been recently acting as a fine arts consultant with the highly respected Weinstein Collection, as well as the numerous other cities he’d worked in while acting as an artist rep, Frederick Holmes relocated to the Northwest in 2012 and opened the gallery a year later, making it one of the first new businesses that have become the face of the «renaissance» of Pioneer Square. Since it’s opening the gallery has hosted numerous solo exhibitions by artists from Portland, Miami, New York, and other cities; plus several group exhibitions of Contemporary and Modern. From the start, the mission was to take the accumulation of his varied 33 years in the gallery business and focusing it into a gallery that reflects his own developed «eye» for art, the value he places on art and its role in our lives, in conjunction with the values and sophistication of a world-class city and its visitors: Seattle
