Cutest little garden shop. Modern. A little pricey, but very cool stuff there. Friendly, knowledgable staff.

Owner Jay was incredibly helpful in helping me get my little plants!
He was good at suggesting options while giving me space to poke around. As I was purchasing, he told me what should go where in my apartment (for light), and was prescriptive with watering.
All around, great customer service.

Envy sure is a great name for this place. If you come here without your wallet you’ll be envious of all the great finds here that people are snatching up!
My boyfriend has an aloe vera plant that he loves very dearly. After the plant (Winston) outgrew his pot, he called around looking to see if any place in the city would actually re-​pot the plant for him. Why buy a 20lb bag of soil if you just need a cup?! On a Unilocal search, Envy popped up to the top of the list and we drove over there for one thing: to find a new pot and get Winston re-​potted.
Not only was the man helping us incredibly friendly and willing to re-​pot Winston, he gave us a little tour of the store. I’d never seen such a fantastic selection of small house plants and succulents before!
Walking around the store I instantly fell in love with a number of items. Some plants were potted in gorgeous hanging glass globes, others were in really ornate and modern pots, and my favorites were in gorgeous glass terrariums. I could feel my wallet getting heavier by the second!
Envy also has a great supply of outdoor games like ring toss and bocce ball, in addition to awesome patio furniture made from recycled materials. Score! (If you don’t see something you want in the store, order it from a catalog — they’ve got ‘em!)
It’s a teeny tiny spot but it’s definitely worth checking out. I have a cat and most of the plants here are perfect for not just Seattle weather (indirect sunlight) but they’re hearty enough to withstand a cat sniffing, biting, and batting at them. I ended up buying a standing terrarium and a hanging one. Beat that, Moxie the cat! My apartment looks so much better with some green in it!

The owners are very friendly and helpful, and for what it is this shop is very nice. However, the plants are sort of pricy, (maybe it’s the containers.) and while the selection they carry is fun and interesting and larger than other little shops in Seattle, it still wasn’t the largest selection.
Plants they have include:
burrow’s tail, elephant plant, (the label said that, but it doesn’t look like what I’m finding on Google. it was actually really neat, with long woody stocks and fuzzy leaves) ponytail plant, pencil cactus, hoya carnosa, hindu rope hoya, bird’s nest fern, ZZ plant, a very big aloe, kind of a lot of snake plants, and several other tropical plants and succulents and some larger things like indoor trees.
They have a lot of very nice pots and stuff too, including the kind that hang upside-​down, and the wall-​pocket kind.

I might have visited here on an off day, but there were hardly any plants. What they did have looked really healthy. I saw maybe three large plants, some medium sized ones, and then a lot of itty-​bitty plants (mostly succulents, all about 1″ tall). So if you want microscopic house plants, this is your place.
They do get props for carrying bags of potting soil, which some similar stores don’t seem to carry (hello, Ravenna Gardens). However, the soil is packaged in very, very tiny bags weighing about 14 ounces. You might get one mid-​sized plant repotted with that. Maybe.
There were also some decent pots and a small selection of mod patio furniture, and I got the feeling this store is more focused on home décor rather than plants. The guy working the counter was really nice and eager to help, which is always a plus. I would recommend this place to someone who really just wants a decent plant for their home but doesn’t care what it is.

Envy is well-​curated, well-​lit, love the personality of the staff (or at least Jay– I’m not sure they have any other staff?), can’t beat the location, and the selection, while not extensive, is selected and merchandised really well. They know a lot about everything they sell and always have pretty sweet art up on the walls. I love these guys and am so glad they came to the ‘hood!

This place really didn’t have that many plants. mostly modern styled and high priced pots of trendy brands like perch! and rotoluxe.
I felt like I was at an art gallery for the garden, which was nice to stop in at, but I ended up walking down Pine to the Copper Vine and after much contemplation over the large variety of very unique houseplants, I bought 2 shamrock plants and a hanging pot houseplant that looked like a type of striated christmas cactus?
one plus to Envy is that parking was easy with street parking right outside the door, and a pay to park lot just across the street. a nice café next door that sold bottles of Kombucha.
I’d recommend stopping in at Envy after you finish eating at Zaw and want to spend a couple hours shopping the stores within walking distance as you let the pizza settle.

I have been to Envy a few times, and each time I walk out having learned something new about plants. The love and care and attention that Jay puts into the place really shines through in every way at Envy. He sources only green, eco-​friendly items, and the plants he chooses are show-​stoppers. Just beautiful!
He goes the extra mile to re-​pot sad-​looking plants, even taking in someone’s plant that was not looking so good for a few weeks to nurture it back to health!

Great Place to Find That Perfect Houseplant
Walked in telling the owner what I needed and where the plant would go in the apt. He pointed me to some great options. After picking one, he potted the plant for me and I was ready to go.
Great shopping experience. I just wish I could give the guy repeat business, but alas I’m hoping my plant will survive for years to come.
If you’re looking for a plant to spruce up your apt, there’s no better place.

I purchased my first plant from Envy at the old location earlier this year. I stopped in on a whim and loved it! Jay was super nice and suggested a perfect low maintenance plant for my apartment. The little money tree I bought has done so well that I decided to visit the new location in Capitol Hill this summer for my second plant. The new store is awesome with lots to choose from. Everything is so affordable and the follow up email with care instructions is a great touch.
I definitely suggest stopping by Envy if you’re in the neighborhood — you won’t leave empty handed.

This place has caught my attention as I’ve walked down the block it shares with Anchovies & Olives and Healeo. I’ve seen the person-​shaped grass planter a few times (and have had to stop my dog from using it as a relief station). I ducked in to see if the inside was as clever as their front stoop and I was impressed. This is a cool urban gardening store!
Envy carries plants, pots, tools, and even some patio furniture. For a small store, there are some great selections. The plants are well-​arranged, healthy, and reasonably priced. The two gents working the store are also friendly and helpful, working within your size, light and budget. They will also email you a profile of your plant with info on ideal placement, watering and feeding — how cool is that!?!
I thought I’d look for something small to add some life to a table. A plant on the counter caught my attention as it was in a beautiful, simple pot with some found glass covering the soil. The helpful guy behind the counter who turned out to be Jay, the owner, said «I can make you one of those,» and the rest is history. I picked a pot, an Alocasia plant with cool, pointy green and purple leaves, and some polished river stones, and now I have a beautiful plant that will make my other pots green with envy…

This is a niche plant store located on Capitol Hill and the boys behind the counter are adorable. My house is filled with unique succulents & cactus because essentially I want my house to look like the store. I can shop there when I’m broke or have lil jingle in the pocket. Go.

ENVY is exactly what I want to see more of in the CD. something wonderful being cultivated in the heart of seattle, in my hood: the central dist. What a neat find!
Very affordable for the quality of care for these plants. I spent an average of $ 30 each (price includes very modern & chic pot) AND generous size plant of Candellia, Ponytail Palm, and Zig Zag Ficus.
My next purchase will be the Wandering Jew. Awesome names!
There are certainly lower priced plants as well as higher end too. but these are an example of what I actually bought.
What makes ENVY stand out is Jay the owner. You can see he really loves plants, the kind I like. I’m no botanist, but I appreciate the natural element a plant can give to any space. when I walked in here, it was like walking into someone’s really cool apartment loft– plants arranged like furniture! of all kinds, all interesting-​looking, squiggly, bulbous, branchy, bonzai, interesting intelligent shapes I always see at cool people’s houses who have cool plants. you know those plants that look like they take forever to grow. yep he’s got ‘em. or describe what you want he’ll get it for you!

Great people, great inventory of rare and tropical plants! This is truly an awesome place to stumble upon if you are in the Central District. The owners go above and beyond to make sure you are fully satisfied with your new greens and know how to care for them. Stop in and don’t forget to check out the second floor.

I’ll be the first to say, I’m not a big plant guy. However, on my way to Madrona last weekend I stumbled across this great little shop with an eclectic selection of plants that piqued my interest. From small, affordable plants you can put on your desk to some great big things that looked like they could be right at home in Little Shop of Horrors (that’s a good thing!) — they had it all.
I wasn’t a big fan of the pot the plant I bought came in, so the owner was awesome in helping me find one that I liked better… and then he transplated it for me right in the store! What a great guy.
