Emerald City Fence Company

I set up an appointment with these folks about a week prior over the phone to provide us a fence estimate for Wednesday 5÷25÷16. They told me they would try to come out sooner if they could, and that we didn’t need to be at the house in order for them to do the estimate. At the time we already had 2 other estimates in hand, and this was the 3^rd and last one we were trying to get. I worked from home that day (⁵⁄₂₅) with hopes that they would show up like they had said. But no one ever showed. This isn’t the first time we had been stood up by a fence contracting company, so I wasn’t surprised that it happened (many of these contractors in Seattle are typically very busy).
So we proceeded with a different contractor. I wouldn’t have written this review if it was left at that… Now this is where it gets crazy, and honestly kind of scary…
Today (5÷31÷16) while I am on vacation in California, i get roughly 5 missed calls from the same phone number. I finally pick up on the 5^th call, and apparently it is THIS company that decided to call me relentlessly to give me the business that I missed an appointment with them for today ⁵⁄₃₁! I couldnt believe it… so of course I tell this lady that your company already stood me up last week and we decided to proceed with a different contractor. This lady then begins asking me details about «who did you hire!!»… «you hired someone even though you knew we were coming!!» she then threatened me by saying that «whoever did your fence, it looks terrible!!».
And so now here I am on vacation wondering… what if these guys did damage to our new fence because they were upset over their own incompetency to schedule appointments… unbelievably scary stuff. I certainly hope I do not need to call the police. But, at the very least I wanted to make sure others are aware of how this company does business.
Hey… you can stand me up if you want, i understand miscommunication happens, but when you call me after the fact and begin making threats and accusations about my property, now you really tick me off, and at the very least this is getting posted on Unilocal for others to proceed with caution.
I also want to be clear that this is the Snohomish Emerald City Fence (- I noticed there is a downtown Seattle division too — I am not sure if they are all under the same owner), if it were me, I would just stay away from all Emerald City Fence companies, but if you are stuck, maybe try the Seattle division… hopefully you dont get the same lady that put me down and threatened me. Good luck everyone! it can be rough out there…

They came onsite to provide a quote on a broken gate along with the back fence. Committed to do the work and let us know we would get us an invoice that day. The day they were supposed to do the work, they only fixed the back fence. For the gate, they left it as is and then stated it would now cost 4 times the cost — from 275 to over 1200. Felt like bait and switch since they came onsite to do the quote. We left an appropriate review on Angies and instead of an apology, we had Kim «thanking» us for the quote and complaining about the review. Overall, terrible experience and recommendation is to avoid them. Even if they are the lower quote, doesn’t mean they will follow through on the work even with a confirmed date.

Emerald couldn’t even be bothered with returning my calls. Definitely not someone to do business with.

Thankful they came and repaired our fence after a storm. However, they put the fence up @ 7pm in the dark one night and set it up the «inside out» vs how it was prior. Our neighbors also let us know they had drove over a few of their plants. When we called with concern the next day when it was light out and we saw the work we never received a return call. The fence is beautiful but would of expected a call back– especially for how expensive fences are and a staple of the home.

Great product and service!
We went with Emerald City after receiving 4 other quotes from competitors. Emerald City was not the least expensive, but they were the most transparent and accommodating during the bidding process. (The most expensive competitor actually told me during the estimate session when I asked a technical question about the post-​on-​pipe method he was recommending «Don’t you worry your little head honey, we’ve got this.» UGH!)
Kim with Emerald City however was straightforward and didn’t talk down to me. Numerous times she even helped us make appropriate changes to the design so that we could have what we wanted AND save money. Even when we had to put a hold on the project for 4 months, she was patient and professional once we were ready to proceed.
The team that came out did such an impressive job that a year later our new fence is still drawing compliments from neighbors. As others have said, the way that they handled the «little details» is really what sets them apart. In addition, multiple major windstorms have dropped at least 3 large branches on the fence and so far only 1 post cap has needed replacing.

I used Emerald City Fence to enclose my yard, including their putting in three gates. The new fencing also had to connect to some parts of older fencing. They did a really excellent job, aesthetically and functionally. And when some screws needed adjustment, they came right out to do that too. From the workmanship to price to communications, they were great.

After a drunk driver damaged a section of chain link fence at my commercial properly, I called Emerald City Fence for an estimate. The estimator came out the next day. After one week and several phone messages inquiring about my estimate, I did receive an e-​mail from Kim that the estimate would be done that day. 10 days later and I have still not received any estimate by e-​mail or phone. Unbelievably bad customer service. Another fence company came out within a day to inspect the damage, received their estimate the same day and the work was scheduled within 1 week.

If I could give the actual FENCE a rating it would be 5 stars. But if I had to rate the SERVICE experience I would give it ½ a star. So I settled on 3. The finished product is awesome and the contractor did an excellent job of building our fence and even went above and beyond to ensure that little details I never would have thought of were covered (like fixing gaps to ensure our dog wouldn’t escape and working creatively around the trees in our yard to ensure their growth wouldn’t be hindered etc.). The fence is gorgeous.
The service experience was the exact opposite. The owner was 2 hours late for the estimate appointment, lots of excuses, which I bought. Then on the day of the installation no one showed up at the specified time, finally I had to call to make sure that it was still happening and was informed via the owner yelling in the background that she had changed the schedule from 1 day to 2 days, that there would be someone coming ‘sometime’ to install the posts on day 1 and ‘sometime’ on day 2 to finish the job and that she would not be present to supervise as previously stated. And no one could tell me why they hadn’t bothered to inform me of any of the changes. It was a frustrating, time consuming experience but… I think the fence itself was worth it. They’d be a great company if they could get their #$@! together.

We shopped around before hiring ECF to put in our fence. The price tag was better by HALF, and they did a wonderful job, even with our steep slopes and rocky terrain. They got the job done quickly, and made sure I was aware of and approved of where everything was going. We are very happy.

BEWARE OF EMERALD CITY FENCE
Emerald City Fence built an adequate fence for our condominium association and then charged us an extra $ 1,600 to stain it. When we asked for a color (rather than clear) stain the owner Kim told us we had to buy the stain ourselves which cost us another $ 580. Then they used a spray gun and basically did a horrible job, leaving bare spots, posts with just a streak or two of stain on them and a fence that looked like a mistake.
We have obtained a small claims court judgement against Kim (the owner) and the company but they have refused to comply.
DO NOT USE EMERALD CITY FENCE IF YOU HAVE ANY CHOICE

We had the yard fenced in and Kim was great. She was quick with getting the estimate. Recommended a great person for getting our survey done. Once the survey was done they put the fence up in a couple of days. I was really impressed with how fast everything took.

We just purchased a new house recently and the only thing it was missing was a fence in the backyard and we needed a good quality fence for the dogs to run around safely and for privacy. My friend recommended Emerald City to me as he just had them do a fence for his new house as well. I had several quotes done, and there quote was middle of the pack in terms of price. There explanation of the fence type was more thorough and they explained why the type of fence they wanted to build was modified style compared to the other companies to extend the life of the fence. We had one small miscommunication during the build but it was quickly resolved by the owner of the company Kim and was corrected and completed on the same day promised. The quality of the fence and the style is the nicest in the neighborhood. The detail they use for the trim and posts were better than expected. There nails could have been hammered better, pretty random and messy in many areas, Overall Im satisfied with the experience and follow up, they treated me well even though my job was a small 2 day project. Recommended.

Great job overall — Kim and her employees were very professional, and easy to work with. They did a BEAUTIFUL job on the fence, we are very pleased with the results. They compared to other fence companies more or less cost wise (a bit more, but worth it). I would use them again without hesitation.

I shopped around a couple fence companies and decided on Emerald City Fence Company for the following reasons:
— they had the most competitive price offer
— they were able to start on my fence sooner than the other companies
— they used better quality materials (companed estimates)
Kim and her team were easy to work with thoughout the whole process. They completed the fence in one day and did an EXCELLENT JOB. Better than we could ever ask for.
I will definitely be referring them to my friends and family for all their fencing needs.

I called Kim Taylor of Emerald City Fence when I had a tight budget and tight timeline. She was prompt in following up with me. Her bid was very competitive. I was very impressed in talking with her, gaining more and more confidence in her ability to be an excellent service provider. They showed up on time, got the job done on time, on budget. It’s a beautiful fence! I’ve referred them to several other friends over the years and they’ve had great things to say about them too!
