Oh El Sombrero… what you do to meeee! I love this place! One of my top Mexican spots in Seattle. when I have that hankering for some bomb Mexican food, best believe I will travel all different directions to get to this El Sombrero. Why? Two words: CARNEASADA(with extra guacamole). Yes, carne asada. I don’t know what or how they make it great, but I often cry on the inside when my plate is gone. It’s fantastic, especially with the extra side of guacamole. Outside of the amazingness we call carne asada, the super nachos with shredded chicken/any meat are the truth! Cheesy, crunchy, savory, filling. guacamole. THETRUTH. The bar area is equipped with TVs and ample amount of seating. It’s well stocked with a variety of beer/wine/spirits, and includes a great drink list(Margarita anyone?). Cheap in price, but great in taste. I’m a stickler for good customer service, and I have to hand it to El Sombrero, they are AWESOME. Friendly, fun, attentive, and accommodating. If you’re a regular(cough me cough) they know your order from the start. Excellent service all around.

This is our family’s favorite restaurant! Maria and her staff are so kind and truly know their guests and the neighborhood community. We are always welcomed warmly, our kids gets hugs and high fives and we have come to know the staff by name. When we have not visited in awhile and return to eat, the staff chats about what’s been happening, kid’s birthdays or holidays that have passed. We bring all of our out-of-town visitors here because the food is great but the owners and staff truly make it spectacular. We love El Sombrero!

Our family favorite! Great food, lovely people, quick service. Particularly like the chicken soup, enchiladas verdes, tacos rancheros, carne asada, and kids’ meals. Super place for kids.

This place is awesome! The staff are friendly and helpful. The food is excellent, and so are the margaritas. The salsa that comes with the complimentary chips is amazing, and the enchiladas always hit the spot. Seriously one of the best Mexican joints I’ve ever been to!

Food and prices are great — the passive agressive staff isn’t… Let’s just say getting the evil eye from a woman sitting across the restaurant almost nonstop is not pleasant. I also get the vibe that they want us out of there as soon as possible whenever I come(except the time they took 2 hours to bring us our food, of course).

This is our go to place in the CC! The chips and salsa are great ;). The chimichmga(so) is also great. I would highly recommend it!

Take my mom’s advice, she orders this dish at every Mexican restaurant she goes to, and she said it was the best she’s ever had! And I have to agree, I had the pollo a la crema. The sauce is delicious. Not to mention the portion size was huge. I will say the rice was a disappointment though, it was undercooked. Service was great too, we went on a Saturday night and the waiter was still very attentive and friendly. Definitely give it a try!

Mmmmmm. This places makes seriously delicious Mexican food. So far I have tried the spinach quesadilla, beef taco, chicken enchiladas, and chicken fajitas. Oh man was everything fantastic. Full of flavour and so fresh. But what I would like to highlight the most was the fried ice cream dessert. Not only was it amazing for my taste buds, it was also gigantic. I mean I could eat it on my own if it was all was eating in one sitting, but due to the delicious food I stuffed my face with prior, I had to ask for some reinforcements. As a bonus the staff is super nice, and the place is very clean.

My favorite Mexican restaurant on the south side of Seattle. The mural and art work is beautiful. The customer service is great! I never leave here with food regret. My stomach always feels happy and satisfied. I usually get the shrimp fajita taco salad. Boyfriend gets Carne asada. The price is right! The portions are plentiful. And the drinks are quenching. Thanks for all your restaurant does for us when we don’t want to cook. I want their mural or the clouds and skies on my ceilings! It is very beautiful! Pictures next time I’m in.

Great lunch after a nice walk in Seward Park. First impressions were really good, our waitress was cheerful and helpful, and the salsa and chips, well, lets just say I could have eaten them as my whole meal! I ended up getting the pork/beef burrito. Portions are HUGE, especially considering the price, it’s a great deal here. Rice was well seasoned and cooked, and the burrito was everything you would expect from a burrito, juicy, packed full of meat and super flavorful. I finished it all up with a deep fried ice cream(again, huge portion), and that was awesome too! Was it the best mexican meal I’ve had? No, but was it a great priced, flavorful, and satisfying meal? For sure! El Sombrero will really give your a bang for your buck, and a little«fiesta» in your mouth too :)

I love El Sombrero! Food & drinks have always been nothing less of perfect here! I love their steak! I always get the steak fajitas and the meat is always so flavorful & soft — never chewy! I also love this place because it is very family oriented! Whenever my husband and I crave mexican, this is our go-to spot!

Not great. Service was shoddy, food wasn’t great. The kids menu wasn’t even Mexican food. I understand that maybe not all kids want an enchilada, but mine would have liked a quesadilla opposed to dino nuggets from Costco.

The performance with the food is mediocre. I wish it weren’t true, but alas. It is uneven what the problem is on any particular visit, but today it was soggy tacos and undercooked rice.

El Sombrero, you are the light of my life. Do not be fooled by the article displayed in the entry claiming you are only«charmingly adequate.» You are Seattle’s gem of Mexican cuisine. I literally dream of you when I’m 1000 miles away at university. I have known you for over 5 years, and our relationship has truly stood the test of time despite my wandering eye. I have travelled far and wide, but you make the best tacos al carbon I’ve ever had and your margaritas are superb. Your atmosphere makes me feel at home, and I never have to wait to enjoy your company. I will be yearning for El Sombrero on this year’s lonely Cinco De Mayo, but we will meet again one day. Sincerely, A Long Lost Lover

Reliable, friendly Mexican food. Highlights: potato quesadillas are super delicious. Burritos are huge and delish. Lots of satisfying veggie options for picky eaters like me.

Good find! We usually avoid«designery» Mexican places as too touristic, and the name ‘El Sombrero’ didn’t help, BUT the food was EXcellent, tasty, authentic Jalisco recipes, reasonable and comfortable. Friendly family place. 10 years old; owned by two brothers. These diners think that is a great partnership.

My first taste of Mexican food and absolutely loved it! Had the carne asada. Generous portions, very very tasty with great drinks to go with. The owner even came out to say hello to regulars and check on other customers, which was really nice. The service was good considering how full they were. Would definitely recommend this place.

We decided to try this place since I was in the mood for Mexican food and it was closest to where we were currently at. I’m glad we gave it a try because I really liked it. We ordered chicken taquitos, Mexican pizza, and an asada burrito. Everything was delicious, however I wasn’t really a fan of the Mexican pizza. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t what I was used to. I would definitely come back, I just wouldn’t get the Mexican pizza. Ladies(or men who like girly drinks, lol), if you want a fun drink, get the Mujer! So yummy!!! — Good for kids — Has a bar area — Good for groups — Food comes out fast — Friendly service

Live five minutes away walking distance and any time I’m craving Mexican food, this is the place I go to! Their portions are large for a great price! The lighting is a bit dim and sometimes the wait can be a while. I usually order take out and call ahead and they are sure to make my orders correctly! The food is on the more comfort food side so be prepared to be full!
