I LOVE50% of the products that Ed Wyse offers, especially EVO; however — the actual store locations are disgusting, dirty, dingy, drab and most the time, the women behind the counter look like they came straight from an non-prestigious environment, so I avoid the stores if I can. We had a sales rep named Rick that was two-faced, unprofessional, flakey, and not intelligent enough to send text messages and sent a text message to ME instead of someone back at corporate talking shit about me and then made a horrible attempt to try and back pedal from sticking his foot in his mouth. We have a new sales rep now who has been delightful and actively trying to get my questions answered; and stays in contact, which is the only reason I can give Ed Wyse 2⁄5 stars; otherwise I would be rating this place 1⁄5.

I went there to purchase hair color as I thought I could without a license. Heads up: you cannot buy any hair color without a license here.

I love Ed Wyse, a place for work supplies and treats! The staff is what really pushes me over the edge. They are so fantastic, knowledgeable, helpful but not pushy, etc. I’m embarrassed that as I’m writing this I can’t remember their names, but they are both so nice! One blonde, one redhead, both amazing. Thank you girls!

It’s true, lots of things are out of stock and there is no rhyme or reason to where they put things on the shelves. On top of it, prices are 60% greater than other supply stores. Employees are also unprofessional, gossiping in front of customers and seemingly put off that they have to actually work when a customer appears.

I’m a salon professional, so having a relationship with my supply stores is a MUST. Now, contrary to what some of you may think, not all Beauty Supply Stores are created equal. Fortunately, Ed Wyse has been around for long enough to understand what is important in this industry. 1. Selling quality products. You treat your skin with great care, don’t ya? Then why are you not treating your hair the same way? Good hair products will help to extend the life of your color and they’ll also help to make your hair waaaaaay more presentable in public. Ed Wyse is currently selling some of the absolute best in hair products. Good for you, good for the environment. Try EVO or Uspa for the ultimate in quality hair products. 2. Customer Service. Just as much as I feel the importance in having a relationship with them, they also feel the same about their relationship with me. The crew who works at this location(and the Northgate one –my most frequented 2 stores) all do a great job of welcoming me as I come to their store, helping to assist when I need it, and genuinely doing a great job of keeping the store in working order. I’ve always seen them being helpful to customers –many of whom aren’t beauty professionals– no matter how ridiculous the questions are. 3. Education. For the stylists who visit their stores, we all know the emphasis that Ed Wyse puts on continuing education. They’ve worked closely with the Tigi empire in the past, and now that they’re done selling BedHead, they moved quickly to secure another brand that would up the ante w/education: Label.M. This past spring, Ed Wyse put on one of the best hair shows that Seattle has had in recent memory. All that may seem a bit excessive for a Supply Store review, but remember this: Hairstylists are nothing without our scissors, our styling tools, our color and our products. We have to get them from somewhere. Why not Ed Wyse?

I needed some toning shampoo reeeeaaal bad, and after a disastrous trip to Ulta last time, I decided to pop in here. I was greeted by easily locatable products, a good selection and a nice atmosphere… then as I looked about, the super nice clerk asked if I needed help. I told her what I came in for, she showed me some options, referred me to one and then rang up my purchases. Important to note: 1. You don’t need a cosmetology license to shop here 2. If you tell them your stylist’s name/shop, they will ‘credit’ them the difference between the retail price and a wholesale one 3. The prices are higher than some shops retail but since it’s all in one place and the staff is soooo nice and knowledgeable, I felt it was well worth it. Oh, and the stuff she suggested? My god, it smells so good and is so fantastic that I will never buy another brand. Yum!

Didn’t have a good impression of this place before I ever stepped foot in the door. For one, they close at 5, which isn’t terribly convenient for anyone who works a normal job and/or isn’t near Eastlake. Two, I called once with a question and the man curtly told me that they can’t give advice about products or otherwise. Umm, then what are they there for? Finally was forced to go to Ed Wyse a few weeks ago to get a product not available at Sally’s. I called beforehand and the girl was super nice. She made sure they had the product, confirmed I could buy it without a cosmetology license, and even put it on hold! The store seems a bit bigger than they need, so pretty much the opposite of claustrophobic Sally’s. Lots and lots and lots of salon products, and I had never before seen quite a few of the lines they carry! Stuff for hair, body, and nails. This time the employees were nice and helpful and even, gasp, gave me info on a couple different products. There were never that many customers, I can’t imagine the location gives them much traffic. A week later I had to return cause the dispenser on one styling product was broken. They exchanged it for me, super easy. This overall experience redeemed Ed Wyse in my eyes. Sally’s will remain my primary beauty supply store due to location and the fact that I can get a discount, but I will probably return to Ed Wyse for some specialty products.
