Easy Joe’s Bar and Grill

This place is the perfect neighborhood bar. Not tough to get a seat, good fresh food, and great service. Nice big screens on the walls to watch games.
We went in on a Friday night at about seven and found out they were doing happy hour all night. Not sure if that’s normal but they have really good happy hour deals. The wings are sooooo good. If you want to go relax with friends I’ve a beer and solid bar food this is the perfect spot.

I have gone back on several occasions since my first review of this place. It still impresses me, every time. With a large group or by myself it is delicious every time. Kudos to the owner (s)! I hope they can keep it busy!
People that don’t like this place are horrible human beings.

Great food and atmosphere! The manager is super nice and friendly! J would recommend the BBQ teriyaki sandwich! I have been here a lot with all different kinds of people and everyone loves it! Perfect place for everyone!

Best pork sliders I’ve ever had!
Tuesdays 2.00 for a sizable portion of amazing slow cooked pulled pork sliders. Music on Friday and saturday is just a huge bonus!

Our server was awesome — really prompt and friendly, and Manny’s on tap is always a good thing, but the food was a little disappointing. The fries and quesadilla were tasty, but the mac and cheese was the blandest I’ve ever had. It tasted of only inadequately drained boiled noodles and roux, as though they forgot to add the cheese. Fortunately, the bacon added a little flavor, but I had to supplement with tons of salt, pepper, and ketchup. I’ll try again, but I think I’ll stick to the sandwich/​burger options next time.

We are so happy to see a family focused restaurant. Easy, casual, yummy and friendly. Everything you can ask for … But then there is Bethany who seals the deal. A great front line for a new business.
Go for the grub, stay for the deck which is catching sun around 5-​sunset.

Easy peazy lemon squeezy. Sorry, with a name like Easy Joe’s I had to open my review that way. To begin with, I’ve been to every restaurant in the last 15 years that’s lived in this space, hopefully Easy Joe’s will manage to last b/​c it’s the perfect kind of family friendly neighborhood brunch/​lunch/​dinner joint North Capitol Hill sorely needs.
I went here for brunch with my wife and son today (Saturday) and really enjoyed it. Hit all the right notes with the food, service was good and everything was priced right. We could have gotten lunch food too, which is a nice touch. It’s family friendly in the sense that my kid can draw anywhere on the butcher paper tablecloth and there are a bunch of inexpensive and simple food options for the kiddos — but this isn’t a kid restaurant (i.e. I didn’t feel like I was at Chuck E Cheese or even one of the «ale house» places).
I had biscuits + gravy w/​fried eggs — the biscuits were light and fluffy and the gravy, while very savory, wasn’t overwhelmingly thick (or too thin). My wife has a spicy scramble that lived up to its name — definitely something you don’t want to order if you don’t like spicy food (having a spicy bloody mary with the spicy scramble was probably a little much). The home fries were nothing to write home about, but they were fine as a side. For each dish there was plenty of food in each dish without being overwhelming.
I was even pleasantly surprised by the $ 3 oatmeal my 4-​year old ordered. It clearly wasn’t instant-​oatmeal and the apple bits and cinnamon were clearly added by hand. He gobbled the whole thing down.
And as I mentioned, the price was right. All three of us were out for under $ 40 (with tax and generous tip) and that includes the aforementioned bloody mary. The space is open and there are plenty of tables. The mid-​century modern décor fits the theme very well.
And from what I could tell, the dinner menu looks great too — little twists on an eclectic mix of familiar food items, and with excellent happy hour prices — so we’ll definitely be back to try it out.

We stopped in around 6 pm. I ordered the mushroom burger and my companion ordered the sloppy joe. Took an unusual amount of time to arrive — there were only two other couples there. The burger was huge, actually the first burger I’ve ever ordered anywhere that was just too meat-​heavy for my taste. It was also quite bland. I had salad instead of fries and the salad was okay — just lettuce, a few tomatoes and, I think, onions. My companion had the sloppy joe and he thought it was the best one he’d ever had. His order came with fries and he loved those, too, as they were thin and crispy. He may order the sloppy joe to «go» in the future and I’ll probably just pass. The service was fine till the end when we had to wait a while for the attention of a waitperson — the employees were having a gabfest at the time — to obtain our check. The music was also cranked up toward the end of the meal, making it hard to hear each other speak. Although it was a hit-​and-​miss experience, I think it’s worth giving the place a try.

We have a lot of memories here as we knew the previous restaurant, Tidbit Bistro very well. So we were really excited to come and try Easy Joe’s. First, we really liked the changes to the space… we had Crab Puppies and the Blue cheese burger and the Mushroom burger. The burgers are made in-​house and you can tell from how juicy and delicious they are. Definitely a must go!

It was about 1:30pm on a Saturday, we had skipped breakfast and just spent about 6 hours moving furniture into our new place on Cap Hill. When we finally hit that «we NEED to eat something NOW» wall, Easy Joe’s seemed to be the perfect candidate as the only place that was within walking distance and open.
I ordered the burger I’d been craving all day, while the BF got the scramble off their brunch menu. It seemed like our food took a while to come out, given that we were the only people there, but I don’t know if it was actually slow or seemed slower because my body so hungry it was about to start eating itself.
Apparently, the scramble was all sorts of amazing, because my boyfriend kept talking about how good it was for the rest of the day. He, a big coffee snob, also liked their coffee, so I guess it must have been good, too. My burger was pretty good: it could’ve used a bit of salt and the patty was too herby to really satiate my craving for a good ol’ fashioned burger. If you are looking for something a little different, grab a salt shaker and try this burger. The rosemary fries were really good, if a bit unconventional also.
All in all, I’ll probably end up coming here again. After all, we do live only a couple of blocks away now, and I think I need to try this fabled scramble for myself.

Went here this week for dinner at around 5:30. They serve simple good comfort food, always a good choice I’d say.
I started with a hummus plate, the wife had fried calamari. My humus was nothing special, didn’t care for it, but the calamari was good. The burger was good, a bit plain. Could use some more dressing me thinks, needs a sauce to carry it. Good beef in the burger though. The fries were pretty good too
I’d love to see a big homey meat loaf plate actually… I think they’d nail it.
The wife had mac ‘n cheese, her fav. It was good, though burnt on the bottom. Good flavors, interesting/​complex cheddar. I liked it. Needed something green on the side, but i’m just being nitpicky.
A few ok beers on tap, some good cheesecake. Overall i was pleased

I hated the butcher paper on the tables at first, but then I was mulling over stuff from work and sketched out some code on the table cloth with a crayon. Was actually kinda nice

I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for good grub at medium prices. Good service. Comfortable atmosphere. Nice selection on the menu.

Tasty! We’ve been eying this place since TidBit closed, waiting to see what it would become. I love a restaurant with a small, varied, well-​executed menu, and this is that place. There are tasty vegetarian options (ratatouille, vegetarian lasagna, soups, salads, etc) along with several seafood options (my boyfriend had the mussels and a side of fries… gotta love moules frites!)
They had a special dessert they were calling «doughnut holes» but were cut pieces of dough, fried, and then served in a paper bag with tons of powdered sugar and a caramel and chocolate sauce for dipping. SO GOOD. I wish they had a fruit sauce, too, but the caramel was delicious.
There were maybe two other diners in there on a cold Thursday night, so the wait staff was very attentive, friendly, and accommodating.
We’ll definitely be back! I swear when we walked in I heard them discussing some kind of brunch menu. I love brunch. Just sayin’, Easy Joe’s. «Doughnut holes» are a good start.

I wanted to love this place as I live very close. I don’t want to judge a place on just one server, but I just read another review that said the wait time for their meal was very long.
We ordered simple meals, the pork sliders and the cod sliders. We were very disappointed when all three of the tables around us received their food long before us, especially when one of those tables was SEATED awhile after we had ORDERED!
This was the first time that we had contemplated leaving and going elsewhere. The only time our waitress came to our table was to take our order and deliver our food (about 40 minutes after we ordered it).
The pork sliders were disappointingly bland. I had to ask for BBQ sauce since the sliders were just bread and unseasoned/​unsauced meat.
I was optimistic that this place would weather the curse of the location, but alas, my first experience was not good. Maybe they need to turn Easy Joes’ into a pizza place based on the fact that the only places in our little area that have staying power are Pagaliacci’s and that other pizza place that’s right there.

Easy Joe’s offers simple, tasty sustenance, with a big caveat… it’s SLOW. I might take to calling it Slow Joe’s.

This place has a ton of potential and possibly could break the fabled location curse if they get one thing straightened out… the amount of time it takes for food to arrive at your table once it is ordered. This is simple food, our table shouldn’t have to wait 45 minutes to receive: 1 sloppy joe with a Caesar salad, 1 greek salad and 1 blackened chicken sandwich (the latter two items were being split) but wait we did, along with all of the tables surrounding ours and we all arrived within 5 – 15 minutes of one another.
Once we received the food it was great! Definitely a great neighborhood comfort food kind of place. The place was buzzing with families, couples, friends… you name it, they were there. My only concern is that they won’t keep coming back knowing how long it takes for the food to come out. Our server informed us that the owners are using a customized iPad application to run the food orders and apparently the delay is significant. My suggestion is toss the app and move onto something tried and true to keep the customers coming back to you.
The menu ranges from some appetizers (sliders (pork and cod), hummus, etc.), a bunch of salads: greek, spinach, caesar, house, field greens, a french onion soup along with the soup du jour, a large section of burgers and chicken sandwiches and then some entrée/​house specialties so there is definitely something for everyone. There is also a kid’s menu that offered some interesting choices if you have your little one in tow. JP ordered the sloppy joe… yum in a bun! My friend and I split the blackened chicken which was also good. The greek salad wasn’t good nor was it bad… just kind of meh.
Service was great and friendly. Our waters were always filled, our bottle of wine arrived and kept us satiated until our food finally came out. 3 of us were almost done with the bottle of wine by the time our food was delivered. And we weren’t drinking fast. Trust me.
Atmosphere closely resembles Tidbit and others that came before as the footprint of the restaurant remains unchanged. They threw up some retro photographs, movie posters and wallpaper, put a few high top tables in the bar area and that’s about it. But you know what, it works. It’s a place where locals can meet up after work for a drink or a casual bite. Love the Roanoke nearby for a drink but this could become my go-​to place based on the food and it’s brighter décor.
Pros: Tasty food, reasonable prices, good service
Cons: Length of time from food order to delivery to table, only 4 beers on draft (would love to see Manny’s or a Pale Ale on tap, not just IPA, amber, porter, etc…)
I will definitely be giving Easy Joe’s a second chance. I know you’ve only been open 4 days. I get that. I am willing to cut you some slack, but 45 minutes to deliver uncomplicated food is a bit ridiculous. If the delivery time isn’t improved during my second visit not sure how often I will be coming back… especially if I walk in the door hungry. Which would be quite a shame. North Capitol Hill has been needing a place like you Easy Joe’s. Get your ordering system straightened out and you will reap the benefits. You’ve got the foundation in place.
Diners my advice at this point is eat a snack before you arrive, have a couple of drinks and sit back and wait… when you finally get your food it will be simple, yummy goodness.

I just tried the Fresh Steamed Mussels
Big bowl of them, touch of butter, shallots, red bell pepper and a splash of cream.
Some of the best I’ve had and I love mussels.
Next I want to try the Pulled Pork Sliders (3), or the Blackened True Cod Sliders (3)
$ 5 bucks, 3 to 6 PM… Can’t beat it.
Lots of other goodies on the menu, and prices are decent.
Some good Beers and a expanding selection of Hard stuff.
Try them out and hopefully they will stick around.

Haven’t been in for awhile, so today I made two (2) visits.
Brunch was good, Bloody Mary was spicy. I had the Bisquits and Gravy, it was good. I don’t know how the cook got those eggs so tough and brown on the outside and kept the yolks runny. The gals had the french toast, which they seemed to like.
Few hours later Theresa and I popped in for a bunch of Starters. Seems the bean counters have cut the sliders from 3 to 2. The Cod Slider has been replaced by Fish of the day slider. Today it was a couple of tough Salmon sliders, rather chewy but tasty. Very sad what the cook did to the Mussels, they were way overcooked and had shriveled to almost nothing. Not all big and plumb like I’ve experienced here before.
Possibly a new cook? I know it was the same cook for both meals. The frys were great, but the other food seems to have slipped.
