Well I have to say that my experience with Dr. Dick hoistad was exceptional, he’s definitely an old-school, Y chromosome type guy. He swaggered into the office and he and I just immediately started bantering about my battered inner ear. I think these types of doctors that are exceptionally good at what they do but are not good interpersonally, are a resource that has to be managed. Being a world renowned hypochondriac, I know my docs and I also know that you have to be an advocate for yourself. My old GP was a wonderful older woman who would sit with me for an hour and 45 minutes at the end of her day and just talk to me about everything except the problem that I came in for, which would somehow lead her to get to the bottom of what was really wrong with me, a doc like that is a one in 1 million type deal. I had a pretty scary episode with my inner ear and I was told by three docs that it was going to be a permanent hearing loss situation. Not being happy with that answer, I found Dr. Hoistad. His diagnosis dovetailed with what I thought was wrong all along, and he went to work on cutting open my eardrum and draining out the problem right there and I can now hear my three-year-old scream in stereo.

He just will told you that you have no serious problems without any diagnostics. But if you want to solve your ‘lightweight’ problem we can arrange a surgery. +1 stars for I think he is a really good surgery speciallist(never tried but found in internet that he is very good at surgery).

The second time I saw Dr. Hoistad, he was awesome. I saw him only because my actual surgeon doc was unavailable. He took his time and cleaned and examined my surgery site and skull implant. There was this pimple on my skin close to where the surgery was and it looked like a spider bite, and I was concerned(My brother had MRSA four times) but he scrutinized and sterilized it. Turned out to be nothing. The first time I saw Dr. Hoistad, I don’t really remember because I was in pain. It was a couple days after my surgery and I was hurting so bad. Snow blind with pain. The worst, most excruciating pain you could possibly imagine in your worst nightmare. Maybe he thought I was exaggerating to get prescription painkillers. Whatever he was thinking he missed diagnosing a very serious allergic reaction to the post surgery antibiotic I was taking. Fast forward to two days later, I am in the Emergency Room at Swedish hospital, covered in bleeding eczema and hives in agonizing pain. The pain that Dr. Hoistad brushed off was an indicator of an extreme atypical allergic reaction. I wish he would have taken the pain more seriously so I could have avoided the emergency room altogether. Being in the ER with just a serious rash that is bleeding all over, without the exciting and dangerous symptoms of asthma or edema is not fun, because the hospital staff totally give you a GOOMER attitude, and mostly ignores you and makes you wait for hours and then sends you home with a prescription for steroids.
